Oops. Moral of the story- make sure the harness FITS the dog! Don't be tempted to be 'kind' by leaving it loose Also- use it only in the manner it is meant to be used ... Also make sure your dog is trained to wear the harness, before driving of- it could have been dsiastrous if Elbie had really panicked/bolted onto the front seat and knocked your hands off the wheel or something! Back to the drawing board ...... and now Elbie KNOWS if he throws a real tanty- someone will once again sit in the back with him

Sorry about what happened- if you haven't experienced it before- yes, it is scary ! Hopefully Morrison recovers quickly :D Try not to smother him now, out of guilt/sympathy...this may make him very anxious!! You will be of most help to him if you are as normal as possible.... and get back to meeting nice dogs/walking asap. :D

Hi - 20 months old, or 2 months old? the stains under her eyes could well be tear stains. A vet check is the best way to work out why this is happening. the licking - could be a submissive gesture- little pups lick their mum/other adult's mouth ..... the excited piddling is just that- excitement/submission. This is a management issue for you and your family/friends. To start with, maybe try this? Dog should NOT be greeted at all on meeting anyone- totally ignore her- no looking at her, or speaking, or patting .(even if she is bouncing on you- just turn away).No baby talk, or excited voices if possible. Let her settle- ask her to sit.. then pat her- talk to her gently and calmly.. and briefly.

personally, I hate seeing pups with foam beds etc- I worry about them ingesting pieces :D :D Problem is - we give puppies foam/soft toys .... then we give them the exact same materials - but in a large flat form, and expect them to completely ignore that it behaves the same as their toys! When they walk on it/poke it with their nose- it feels the same... it is soft, and if mouthed, it feels good, like their toys.....why not chew it?

I think it depends on the breed, the bitch's health, what her history is , how desperate you are to have a litter from her as opposed to risking her health, how experienced you are , and what vet support you have. I have known bitches whelp easily and happily well into double figures ...others who were considered 'too old' at 7/8 years of age. First litters should be done when the bitch is still young - there are dangers with a first pregnancy/whelping with an older bitch :D

Just wondering how your dog got on at the vets?

GB -made by the same people- has slightly less fat than UA. We use both when there is no meat ..... this week the store has neither, so it's cobber :D hope it doesn't scour the dogs like it did last time we used it.

Just that They are people... and people come in all shapes, behaviours and types. People are unpredictable and are prone to make decisions/choices which end badly.

Bones- lamb flaps are ok- but they will put a heap of weight on him, with not much chewing he needs something which takes more than 2 minutes to eat get him chicken carcasses(frames), or larger beef brisket bones, or roo tails . Introduce stuff gradually ... and definitely cut back on teh kibble when he is eating meaty stuff .. or you may end up with a tubby boy! Hi Does your pup have interesting toys, and lots of bones to chew? pebbles are fun for dogs- they feel nice on the tongue, they make noise.... but they can cause awful trouble if swallowed. It is your job to find stuff that is more interesting than pebbles ;) Oh- and each time you dash up to him, and say "oh- what have you got in your mouth".. and remove the pebble... he is getting your attention , because he picked up a pebble! So- that is a reward for doing it So- a large kong filled with treats and frozen... perhaps a couple of soft drink bottles with his kibble in .. .so he has to toss the bottles around to get food ... a soccer ball to kick/push around ... and some nice bones The lab folks will probably have better ideas . And the reasoning was? Does your dog have some sort of health problem? Many pups are weaned onto a raw diet ... and many more are fed a balanced raw diet from when they go to their new homes. Raw meat/bones should not ordinarily be a problem for a dog like yours . if he is fed better quality food ,with bone content, you will find he poos less, and there should be no sloppiness. ;)

you are between a rock and a very hard place . Whilst you have put a LOT of thought and work into caring for these babies ... you are now aware of what an uncertain future these sort of pups have . leaving them in the community is just repeating the cycle I am sorry, I have no wise advice - but will be thinking of you and those puppies.

Does she sleep outside in the cold? I think she is a bit young to have a coat on unsupervised ..... Make sure she has a cosy spot to sleep in .. well away from drafts .. and don't forget, it doesn't matter how high/thick, spongy the mattress is- the cold seeps in around the sides!! Where does she sleep? if she is indoors- and has a crate/bed with sides/large box .. she should not need a coat,IMO She is young and well cared for now Putting something which is strongly smelling like VICKS near a dog's head/nose is something I would never do . Their sense of smell is SO much more acute than ours.... imagine not being able to escape that stinging vicks in your eyes/nose
