  1. CW EW why not select and print out a lot of the posts?
  2. by the time the kid is old enough to do anything constructive with the dog.. the dog will be middleaged and probably fat & uneducated NOT a good combination. A young baby- another one due just as the lab hits that adolescent/young adult stage..... my advice is like the others. NOT a good plan for ayone's sake...
  3. Oh R I P Kobi - no more pacing, no more confusion.... run free with that goofy GR grin
  4. Lots of tips here! and Here (DOL thread)
  5. The growling/biting etc when you put a harness on, or restrain him is a bit concerning... what do you do/say when he does growl/bite? may I suggest that he only gets fed when he gets his harness on..and is polite about it he will soon catch on! It means polite, too - a growl and there is NO food.

    Harness

indeed... however, people ,for some reason/s forget that with the experience and tuition of a professional at their side- they learn skills with which to address their dog's particular issues I was taught to train dogs using a chain collar .. correction/praise, correction/praise ... for walks of about 2 km at a time in one long straight line...day after day . The dogs did get habituated into walking straight... and as there was no 'reward' at the end of the walks.. the excitement levels dropped waaay down . In a VERY short space of time, the chain collar was mostly hanging at its slackest ..and a mere jingle was all that was needed to remind teh dog that something needed doing Once this state is achieved, THEN we could add in things like other dogs, free runs in a park ....
  7. I'm very glad he is now in good hands.. just don't expect him home too soon- if he is not keeping food down, then he should be hospitalised and kept on a drip , etc. Hope you get some positive news very soon !
  8. Hmm.. neither did I . Anyone got any more info on this?
  9. Poor old girl- she must be exhausted:( Best of luck at the vets tomorrow.
  10. Don't guide dogs have puppy walker folks who help (puppy raising officers, from their website) ? It seems to me that instructions from them would be better , as the methods would be approved by them, and be a constant thing.... Email or phone teh GD people and ask them these questions... it's their pup after all Gosh- times change... treats were an absolute NO NO for guide dog pups/dogs in training way back when. PS: it only takes a second to sniff up a parvo bug ;)
  11. Sounds a good morning! ;) He's a smart boy ...

    Help!

Welcome ;) What did the breeder say? The vet didn't notice anything when you took him for his first vet check? If not, I would suggest making an appointment . The quicker he is checked , the quicker you know what needs to be done, I guess.
  13. I hope you have taken this poor old girl to the vet. ;)
  14. ..someone's probably done a study on it, somewhere ....
  15. jaxx's buddy - same here- with all our working dogs and pets over the years... about 40 years that I remember- there have been many dogs- and never any trouble .
  16. ?? less exercise/muscletone maybe? Stress- I would imagine stress would alter the muscles somewhat .. which may exacerbate a problem? Interesting concept .
  17. Good experiment opportunity Lucky cat , I think..... Hope the pegleg doesn't get stuck in his ear when he scratches
  18. ..and I guess it's like everything else- sometimes, genetics decrees that construction of something does not go as it should- and openings are angled wrong/muscles are a bit weak or something.... and there will be a problem .
  19. Hi - If your dog has a possible allergy, with DRY skin... I would not be bathing him ... maybe in plain warm water,if he smells... malaseb is used to treat skin conditions/infections where the skin gets oily and smelly and itchy.. it is wonderful when used under vet advice, for specific conditions. as you are going to see a dermatologist- and they need to see the dog's skin 'au naturelle' it would be wise to NOT bath/oil./ etc at all . When you do any of these things , it will change the appearance/function of the skin, and may well hide symptoms that the derm. needs to make an accurate diagnosis
