Clicker Training To Stop Barking
persephone replied to AussieGuy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
the bolded bit is attention he earns from barking. What training do you do with him each day, and how long is he walked (and how often?) What toys does he have ...are they ones which provide a lot of mental stimulation? Was he brought up around lots of different noises? What does he do when he's inside with you? Is he calm, or noisy inside as well? -
He looks terrific!! Well Done

Hi, rach - hope he is feeling better very soon! perhaps it may hurt your dog to lap water? perhaps he will be more interested in milk/water mixture..or just give him wet food . If he has been on a drip etc at th evets he may not be very thirsty anyway- don't worry too much. Just leave things there.. and when he wants to, he will.

Stress can make dogs do this too .... just a thought.

Welcome. First things first To avoid possible stomach upsets etc with the new pup- feed exactly what the breeder is using for the first weeks ...then gradually change over to your choice of food. I think it's label reading time ! The quality of a food is in its ingredients ... Meat is obviously the most important ingredient - this should be first on an ingredient list, ideally. BARF feeding is popular - and can be done without too much effort here are some links to threads which may interest you. LINK LINK http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...mp;hl=BARF+diet

Hi- just wondering how Morrison is this morning?
-
Fair enough- tho I would perhaps interpret this as him feeling physically uncomfortable ..and going to a 'safe' spot - his bed ..
-
us humans mostly buy dog beds because they look nice to us . Provided a dog is off a cold floor- in a draft free spot, and has enough cushioning to allow their hips/feet some leeway...they don't care if they are on your old jumper, or a designer cushion! Our house dogs sleep on opshop pillows/blankets/polar fleece throws .. and these get thrown out when too grotty.
-
I don't think they 'sulk' like humans... I think, because they mostly live in the moment, that a change of environment-even back home, somewhat disrupts them ..and leaves them a bit confuddled Some dogs don;t seem to be affected, tho. Dogs also react to body language etc.. so pick up on anything which may be happening with you. Sometimes, too, after being in a kennel- the learned behaviour is to lie & sleep a lot... so it is carried on for a short time at home again.... I have found that often the new environment/routine/socialisation can create a very relaxed and 'tired' seeming dog This wears off once home and back into normal anticipatory behaviour

If it were me, I would take a photo... not apply th e ointment-wait until tomorrow- and then phone the clinic .

How often are you brushing/combing your new puppy? if you groom her for a couple of minutes everyday , you will find she stays cleaner MUCH longer It is also a good bonding/training thing at this age. I tend to only bath pups if they roll in something nasty.... or are smelling like half chewed meaty bones Not often at all!

What Can I Feed Our Dogs Tonight?
persephone replied to haylz27's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Rice and tuna is fine - I wouldn't use a stock cube because most tuna is in brine anyway and dogs don't need very much salt .. But that and a few grated cooked veges is fine short term Do you have a friendly butcher? he may well give you a bag of bones 'on credit'
