  1. *hint* use a leash which is a chain one .... stops leash chewers pretty smartly
  2. I believe that dogs/humans have compromised immune systems simply because we are 'bathed' in chemicals - from the air, our food, cleaning/deodorising things/exposure to plastics... medicines...the list goes on So many dog owners throw chemicals at their 'pampered' dogs- internally, with endo/exo parasite controls, externally with baths/grooming products, and things used in kennels/houses to clean/disinfect...I guess vacc's come in somewhere ... Dogs eat treats/foods containing prservatives, colourings, flavours.... Nobody's system was originally designed to cope with all these things..and it is now showing .
  3. that IS good news You both will learn - and whilst there will be those moments - they will not be as scary- cos now you have tools to use
  4. Bones toilet rolls cardboard boxes lengths of soft cotton rope bought from hardware shop- cut to desired length, and tied in knots skinneez Softies
  5. I agree- leaving a pup alone while at school/work is unavoidable in many families. leaving a pup locked away in a laundry when someone is home is sad, and the fact that Rosalie cannot be with her pup while she is doing normal things in the house is not good for her or her puppy.
  6. You would have a heart attack if you saw/heard our pack playing lots of body slams/snaps/scruffings/nips ..... all ok tho - just different ages & things without seeing your dog it is all guessing - but it does sound normal
  7. So glad you have a behaviourist on your team now The breeders sound as if they are not terribly supportive - hope you do not recommend them to others Keep us posted , please?
  8. Bitches come in season every 6 mths or so ...some vary , but that is the 'norm' the vasectomy I cannot help you with ....
  9. You can buy an actual photo glue , or little 'dots' ask at a newsagents or office supply place When you stick teh photo on though, make sure there are no uneven spots- like if it's higher where the glue is, then saggy where there is no glue I always apply the glue then place photo/board face down onto a clean smooth paper surface ..and roll something over the back ... rolling pin, or piece of dowel....
  10. Hamlet was gorgeous as a pup, it's the last 6 years I have been offering him to people!!
  11. If you want her to be relaxed when put in her run- then a couple of 5 to 10 minute obedience sessions during her walk- really making her work- will help do this A walk should be work of sorts- with sniffing , toileting ,done when YOU say so :p That way , she is concentrating and using her brain as well as her body ...
  12. yep the reason I think the OP really needs to get vet help here is that apparently, on high protein food, her dog produces crystals ( I am guessing like the ones produced in the bladder? ) and for this reason- having TWO processes happening, it is not a time to 'try' things
  13. Perhaps seek a second opinion? I don't know much about either crystal formation after too much protein , or all the ins & outs of pancreatitis- but I DO think you need a vet who will spend time with you, explaining just how both of these processes occur, and what foods can be used safely. Seems as if a low protein/low fat diet will help .. but you need to get the vet's opinion on just HOW much of each is needed, and what food can supply it for your dog.
  14. too long for me to read... the less processing ANY food has, the better it is for all living creatures .
  15. I agree with the suggestion to speak with your vet! Your vet knows your dog we don't - and every dog is different
  16. She probably got "pricked' with teh dry kibble- so now the smell of it alone makes her wary have you tried mixing a sardine or some mince with it?
  17. yes- but then there are the other hours when Rosalie also has to lock pup away - when she IS home - eating, sitting at her puter, showering.... sleeping..... there doesn't seem a lot of opportunity for her to be with her pupopy
  18. No treats used here in training - dogs do it, they get patted and praised Simple. They have never expected anything else , so it works. because they do not get chatted to/played with all day, any praise etc is of value to them... so they enjoy earning it I also agree with not calling a dog and then doing something unpleasant - calling a dog to you should always be associated with something happy :D I see compliance in the face of distraction/unwillingness is kinda like being in the army.... soldiers are continually drilled in a behaviour , so it become AUTOMATIC ... they hear/see a cue, and the behaviour just happens , regardless of what is going on around them. practice to the 'nth' degree :D
  19. Kibble has sharp bits - which can stick into an inflamed gum perhaps dampen it? meat/bone is better, as there are no pointy bits!
  20. Glad there was no more vomiting, and that he enjoyed brekkie!
  21. yep - you will benefit from a professional at your side . Some folks here have previously recommendedTHIS person Good for you coming on and asking , and I hope that you and your family get the help you need
  22. may I suggest you start teaching him tricks - not just fetch/sit .. do a search on here there are lots There are also "CRATE GAMES" IMO his crate SHOULD be his refuge, his chill out area, his den- not a place to be dragged into as punishment . I would also suggest you try TRIANGLE of TEMPTATION - a fairly simple way of reinforcing/teaching your dog just who is in charge of life's good things :D One other thing. Running, walking distance can often just make a dog fitter- not tire out his brain :D WORK makes him tired - having to concentrate, learn, and think. It is similar to us humans We get so tired after a frazzling day at work , or after a visit from hard-to- handle kids/rellies . Then, what a lot of us do is go for a jog/to the gym to revitalise ! You have a dog bred to think/plan/concentrate, use his nose.... his training needs to help him use all that he has
  23. Sorry 'bout the bunny - but your dog had a good, well balanced meal
