  1. We don't have sleep ins here at all... it's one up, all up. Occasionally I will get up really early, and work for an hour or two ,then get the dogs up at 'normal' time They are pretty crazy once let out
  2. Oh I'm thinking of you ...and your gorgeous boy .
  3. Being responsive is a very big deal after that sort of body insult!! ;)
  4. Most of our dogs are usually outside - when it reaches 40 we hose them down a couple of times during the day They are on sand.. so they have a big patch which is kept damp ..and in shade, They dig holes in the damp sand... and stay remarkably cool doing this The inside dogs just flake on the cooler floor .. our aircon often only gets the house down to around 30 deg. ..but still better than 40plus!
  5. IMO Recall is not just an isolated exercise. Recall begins when your puppy toddles up to you for a pat . THEN you say "here", or "To me" or "Come"... and praise. repeat repeat repeat. Will your pup react to a whistle? Often they will - as it is a different different sound.. While pup is inside .. have a treat ready , and whistle . When he looks at you , whistle again, and show him the treat .use his name- and either whistle again, or say 'here' etc. When he comes - even if it is only a metre.. lots of immediate praise. repeat repeat . THEN .. start doing it when pup is perhaps in another room... then backyard. NEVER chase puppy. ALWAYS reward for coming to you.ALWAYS. Use recall when feeding, when inviting puppy onto his bed/your couch.... RECALL is a means by which a pup gets reward. If he won't come in when called- shut the door . NO conversation. After a while .. go out calmly and call/whistle .. show him the treats.Just once ...and NO extra talking/attention.He needs to just concentrate on what you are wanting. If there is no response... leave him there - with no conversation. Once he DOES ...and it may take a while .. he gets his treat and lots of play/praise. May I recommend you do the N I L I F program with him, too.... Nothing In Life Is Free . That way he gets used to only getting treats/praise when what he does is what he is asked At present , a shaking treat tin means "Come Here" You have to now train him to associate a word with 'come here' have fun.
  6. Ermmm. unless you address it NOW - and get the other family members to also work at it ... My guess is that things will be worse in another 6 months
  7. Oh, gosh :D I hope he has a good night ... sending prayers.
  8. My way of thinking is that if he is feeling pressured by dogs at the park.and has had to resort to snapping... then why do it to him? yes, he needs to be nice to dogs generally, but there must be a reason he has started to snap....and it shows he is not happy. Taking small dogs to dog parks is not compulsory What is he like when leash walking and encountering other dogs? has his behaviour changed AT ALL around home? even something little ....like being less bouncy, or eating slower,or walking different speeds...
  9. Oh It will hurt a lot ... but you have lots of smiles and memories to draw on . Run free and happy , Kasper
  10. Very tire and/or sore , would be my guess. A check by vet or canine chiro may be an idea
  11. ..is this what the vet recommended? The best idea would be to find out exactly what type of problem the dog has- it may not even be a fungus Appropriate treatment can then be given. Putting the possibly incorrect remedy on could cause more problems Not to mention if your dog eats t e powder off his feet (which he will do )
  12. Another Vet opinion would be a good idea I think! Hope she is ok soon and.. I totally agree here!!!! <<<<<yup I'm a meany. For sores I let them hurt unless the pain is pretty bad. Lets the dog know to NOT run about like a loony for a while and let the area heal.>>>>> quote thingy not working
  13. These are fantastic captures of a wonderfully adapted plant! They are wonderful macro subjects!
  14. It could well be hypoglycaemia ... A friend's dog collapsed a few times before they found out is was not his heart ..Vets weren't looking for low blood sugar at first. Once they realised what it was, it was simply a matter of management, from memory .he lived a good long life .
  15. My old dog was on prednil most of his life..he died at around age 12 ...
  16. perhaps get it printed at a friend's place, or at another place? OR.. if you can, adjust the pic to be printed on the screen... so it is a bit lighter, see how that prints out ? I print my own copies..don't print many ..but that way I can adjust them if needed. ( I only use a point/shoot camera, too ) Agree with kja.Put a copy up on here, and let us have a look Also - have a look for Dju's thread about getting a new camera! Lots of info there
  17. How lucky were you! ermmm, that is some view!!!!!!
  18. I would be keeping him as a part of the household ..he is not being punished- just confined :D I also figure if he is away from you, howling/barking/jumping...then he is not exactly resting!! Keep him where he is privy to household happenings- it will give him something to look at/smell/hear Plonk crate outside too - so he can see stuff
  19. Hope things heal quickly :D I would just take things slowly and very matter-of-fact ." It happened - big deal.. today's a normal day" type thing. have him on a long leash and just go about things as per normal.. take treats perhaps, and if he is bright and brave- he gets the treats (make sure he knows you have them!
  20. I hadn't even considered saving as anything other than jpg . Hmmm.... Mine seem to print out at A4 ok as jpg. Must try themat something else..TIFF,as lightroom won't accept PNG.
