What Happens If Your Dog Bites Someone When Provoked?
persephone replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sorry you felt afraid ..been there done that.. a few times. It shakes you up. however, why think of calling the police? The man was not, by your post, attempting to attack you ... he was directing his outburst at your very large off lead dog...he reacted strongly, and tried to protect his little girl. The man was probably scared witless ,and tried to fix things in the only way he knew how.... Yes, it sounded awful, and was loud, and intimidating...but hardly worth getting police involved, IMO. -
Dogs vocalise a lot ! It's very normal for your dog to make noises when playing

So sorry, peiLuvr... hope you & sarge can enjoy your walks and time together while you get used to new hole in your heart...

Here We Go Mandatory Desexing For All Pet Puppies.
persephone replied to Steve's topic in In The News
So does this go with folks purchasing from breeders as well? Like a baby newf or GSD is to be desexed at 8 weeks??? -
Oh - they kept her for 11 years??? Is that unusual?

Great shots! Ours like them too

Scary may I suggest you purchase and use one of those fantastic 'hands free' leashes ..that go 'round your waist - I love them, as it leaves you free to carry things and not worry as much.Your boy sounds great to handle Whilst it is nice to have a 'protector' .. it is also nice to be able to switch it on & off . perhaps get some advice ..as it would be just awful if you were in a confined space, and he did bite -
apologies- that doesn't look right To me it is just normal life that stuff like that happens .... we humans are capable of all sorts of behaviour which upsets others .We can do our bit to try & correct /avoid at the time , but then the moment passes ... so what? There will be more sh*it tomorrow again... yes, people 'should' be responsible ... but it's not unusual to be in close contact with those who aren't.

..which is why I am not in favour of 'good' pain relief . If it hurts- the dog will rest. From memory my dog was not allowed to walk at all for weeks ... mind you he was so bandaged he couldn't move his leg anyway ..it was like a splint! We carried him in & out ...and he weighed around 2o kg ! Hope your girl slowly and surely improves now ...it is a worry.

Certainly doesn't appear normal poor old girl ...perhaps that is why she is homeless?

She spunds like a bitch we had a few years ago.. we got her as she was due to be shot.. her owner could not control her ... she wouldn't listen, chased roos, and was tough and strong.... he had paid a small fortune for her from a breeder well known for providing good dogs. She took a lot of work.. and not all of it gentle , either ... and lived happily with us for the next 11 years. Bo ended up being a very useful and tireless worker in certain jobs.. she was too forceful to use in a lot of situations, but perfect for others. She would fight, she was often bowled over by sheep , she had many days when she 'went on strike' ...but she certainly gave her all when she had a job she liked

May I suggest he has NOT purchased a pup suitable for his (lack of) knowledge/ability. I fear this will end in tears . poor little pup. Silly, impulsive man.
-
Not if they are meant to do a particular job in life ,and are unsuited to that job! Working dogs are often moved around until a place is found which suits ..we have 2 here who we were given because they didn't fit in their original places ..and have been happily with us for some years now . I like Vickie's comment
