training WILL WORK. No question. Trouble is ,it is YOU who need the training- so then you can teach your dog ;) YOU need to be reading/talking, as you are here, about dog behaviour ...WHAT is the dog doing? WHY is he doing it?HOW do I know what he's thinking? WHEN is the right time to praise/correct.... training is mostly about rewards. dogs are pretty simple- like humans. if we get a reward- if it feels good, or we get food ..we will do it again. and again.... SO your dog needs to get REWARDS for good and calm behaviour .... YOU need to learn how this works - obedience lessons will be useful- but by February ...things may have worsened . NOW, at home ,is when he can learn some better habits , with your help.

Druce- you do not need a chain. A time out area is a pen/room where the dog is away from his pack. this pup does not need further confinemnet via a chain.. he needs education/learning/exercise .. he is just discovering life ...he needs to explore and be taught by YOU how to interact with the world ... A walk every second day is NOT enough.... he needs one or two walks every single day ...short walks- not miles... he is still growing and developing. Yes, I recommend desexing .. but it will not 'cure' lack of training . It will help with him not seeking bitches in season..and being so keen to fight other males.

IMO, neither of these things will be of immediate assistance to a very inexperienced owner of a boisterous stafford puppy! Druce- have a read of these articles- they may give you some answers as to WHY yopur puppy is doing this, and HOW you can learn to manage things ... CLICK HERE CLICK HERE Your pup needs execise, both physical and mental.Your pup needs walks, and obedience sessions in your yard, and good interactive toys. It needs rules, and routine, and rewards Smacking will only make things worse- as you have found . A water spray may work- but get your timing absolutely right! Do not spray when pup is retreating, or just looking at you...

Thank Souff....for saying what I wanted to say. I have heard, that in her younger years, she was a superb trainer and handler of Labradors and could work them better than many professional trainers. She is also well aware of how important pedigrees are..in both dogs and horses. I would suspect she just kept up the X breeds because they come from dogs she has loved. It's not as if she has a sign on the fence of Buckingham Palace saying...'Designer puppies for sale!' ;) By the way...I'm not sure which palace grounds it is in, but the Royals have a special pet cemetary, where each and every much loved dog is buried, with a headstone. She is also Patron of Dogs Trust....a dog welfare/rehoming organisation and the largest dog welfare charity in the UK. From the Royal's website...... "The Queen is Patron of over 30 animal charities from the RSPCA to The Red Poll Cattle Society and the Labrador Retriever Club. Many of the charities reflect Her Majesty’s personal interests: she is patron of The Royal Pigeon Racing Association and owns her own pigeons which are kept on the Sandringham Estate; her Patronage of the Royal Windsor Horse Show was a natural choice as the Royal Family have been involved with the event since its inception and her involvement with the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association is indicative of her private interest in breeding and racing horses. The Duke of Edinburgh’s animal patronages reflect his interest in birds (the British Falconers' Club, Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology and Birds Australia) and conservation (World Wide Fund for Nature, South Saskatchewan Wildlife Association and Friends of the Sea Otter amongst others). The Duchess of Cornwall takes a keen in interest in animal welfare and is Patron of the following animal organisations, the Animal Care Trust, the Brooke Hospital for Animals, the Moorland Mousie Trust, and the Langford Trust which supports the University of Bristol's School of Veterinary Science. Other members of the Royal Family are involved in numerous animal charities, from small, niche organisations such as St Tiggywinkles or the British Goat Society to international wildlife organisations."

Hamlet still does it ..races around the house with a dead stuffed toy, growling and mumbling.... he's 7!!
-
There may well be no blood - when pup nibbles/licks.. it will be more like an excema thing maybe? Don't panic!! Just check with the vet before you clip him. Infection may be introduced/spread with clipping
-
That's a good point!
-
Photo? In any case- a vet check will help... I seem to remember he had problems before -after grooming/bathing??? Or am I mistaken?
-
Unless they have bad teeth or something- give them their meat on the bone ... if they have to take time to chew up a whole chicken wing ..or some lamb flab or roo tail ..there is less likelihood of gulp/regurgitate syndrome. It does sound as if they have a bug though....

Tell him he could lose his leg .

it was certainly not hot or anything last night in that part of the world ... gosh I hope they show the same diligence when someone leaves a dog locked in a HOT car
-
Too late by then- the bugs are in his bloodstream..and making a beeline for any wounds which may be still healing!! BL**dy men!
-
I had a look as well.. and could not find any laws as such. My guess is that it's a cruelty thing ..not a breaking law thing?

ah _ I didn't realise she was sick- or that age , sorry perhaps just change management - a behaviourist may not be able to help
-
oh Dear Please get your dad to see a doctor - he needs antibiotics. After a hip replacement, he does NOT need an infection in his leg ..... May I suggest you contact a behaviourist as well , so Abbi's behaviour can be assessed, and hopefully some new training/management plan can be done.

..back over 20 years ago when my dog was done ... there were no real pain relief things routinely offered .. certainly no physio or aftercare ..dog owners now are so lucky to have all this routinely available to help recovery The op was a resounding success ..and he had another 10 or so years of uneventful very active life , for which I was grateful .
