  1. Yes! That's the video I had seen. Poor dog. .. and that's sort of the way I see this dog's problem ...only a tail, not a leg...and with a heightened arousal state... it is ..."ATTACK!!"
  2. Oh You thought you were doing the right thing for your girl.... not your fault at all.She died at home.. amongst familiar things ... R I P Smudge ...
  3. I don't use crates ... but would think that if a dog cannot stretch out-/sit up /whatever .. for hours .. then it wouldn't be a very restful night...a bit like us trying to sleep comfortably in a bus seat . If it is a warm night.. all our dogs sleep on their sides.. with legs stretched out - this being the coolest position ... they would need a pretty wide crate to sleep like this . Hoe does your girl sleep now - on your bed/sofa? Can she do the same in her crate ? this thread reminded me of all these great PHOTOS
  4. ..slightly OT ....But ,to me, this seems to NOT be 'spinning'/tail chasing... but ATTACKING the tail ... like attacking a dog about to steal her bone ...or am I being thick/pedantic .? the OP does not mention 'spinning' that I have seen,.. but does mention food guarding... Is it the same class of behaviour? Does it get managed in teh same way?
  5. How's his eyesight?perhaps he's seeing shapes which look odd in different light ,now?
  6. Why is this sneaky? She is doing what you are training her to - enter the crate and receive a treat. She is learning ! Just make sure the crate is big enough! Can she comfortably sleep stretched out on her side,or curled around? Can she sit up without her head touching the roof?
  7. macdog- A professional who can actually see/hear your dog ,and discuss things with you at home would be the way for you to get understanding and specific skills. These problems really need personal help . Where are you located ? Someone can probably be recommended if we know where you are
  8. LINK to story "This (abandoned) Life and ,no, this is not to discuss shelters, or how they should/should not do things ... or critique journalistic style ...just a nice story with a smile at the the end
  9. Sounds a loving and well thought out way to keep your little dog secure and safe !
  10. Sorry about Angel... and glad Mum & bubs will now be safe. ooohh.. a torte!!
  11. How nasty is the wound? for scratches/grazes.. just wash gently with saline ..and dab on some betadine.
  12. The bit I saw looked good - well done! I don't have proper broadband.. so it took way too long to load
  13. remove any stacked rubbish..and let pup play behind the shed !
  14. There are so many good sized moveable runs around :D if you think she may dig... then pavers can be placed around under the framework..or netting... I would prefer her enclosed in my own yard, if she were mine..... probably cheaper than daycare,as well!! You may find a cheap unwanted bird aviary ,too.... they can be good runs for smaller dogs
  15. Oh.. and shut the spare room door :D. Until you get help... as Cosmolo advises.. do not try & get him out... or lock him into time out ... I would suggest just ignore..and make sure there is a treat available when he DOES come out by himself. NO growling at him or anything. you really do need to work with a professional.
  16. I would strongly suggest you contact a recommended trainer to come to your house and work with you & your pup- so you can understand what is happening, and learn ways of managing it. Aggression is urgent and needs personal and professional help- not internet advice. if you tell us where you're located , we can try & suggest someone for you .
  17. he could be now embarking on a career as maker of cute fluffy puppies ................
  18. ... isn't 'chasing' a tail/spinning .... different though to 'attacking' a tail when food is present ? Do they have the same origins?
  19. While I was doing dishes,I was just thinking,too.... if it seems to also have a 'guarding' aspect... when you feed her- can you do so using a real bucket instead of the clear plastic elizabethan collar? or a E collar which is opaque? Feed her in a small bowl raised off the ground, so the E collar/bucket fits OVER it .. so she can not see any tail movement? She will be eating in a tunnel ..with vision of her bowl only.... Make sure she is always hungry .. so she does not have the luxury of waiting to eat? Muzzles are great when interacting more with family, and indoors
  20. Plant lots of native trees and encourage teh birds...
  21. This is not good. You really need to consult a VETERINARY behaviourist . I have seen this briefly somewhere..youtube? where a dog kept attacking its leg. It is a big problem ... and if you want to know exactly what is happening, and have some chance of managing it you DO need to see a professional (not just an ordinary vet) I'm sorry this problem is happening...and hope you can find a way to get the funds together to see someone and get a definitive answer. Cesar Milan has also had one of these on his show.. but I can not remember what happened .
  22. I only use permoxin these days ... we have koolies and Koolie x's people probably find it easier to apply a spot on product ...too much effort in measuring/mixing/spraying/rinsing .......
