I think this pup would benefit from a new home ... Just my 2C worth... it sounds as tho your sister and her husband are frustrated and floundering ..and unless they get someone in to help...and have the dedication/patience to carry out instructions to the letter , they ,and the pup will continue to fail, feel awful, and so the cycle continues I feel for them, and the pup ....

OT- all creatures, I'm glad you don't smack your dogs.. that isn't a very useful training tool A prong collar, used with knowledge, can be very useful with some dogs ..and is no more 'cruel' than other training tools when used correctly perhaps do some research ? Do a search on here- there are several public discussions , for a start :D

Need Advice - Dog Forgotten Toilet Training
persephone replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Can the deck area be fenced off at least, so she's not messing close to the house? Would they consider bringing her inside on a leash .. ? A vet check would be a good plan... and perhaps, if all ok, get someone to actually take her out of the yard occasionally? -
Lucky he was, Horus - you and your spotties gave him a lovely few years Run free -smile big, Lucky !

So.. a level 9 correction ,using a prong collar is what? ..and why didn't you explain this in your post? You posted in such a way as to give an impression that this type of 'training' would do the trick for any dog. THAT is what I see as dangerous. What you do with your dogs at home is your business... I may not agree with it- but they are your dogs. Telling someone else, publicly , to do the same thing to THEIR dog ... and insinuating that only 'proper' trainers trained that way ..is a dangerous thing.

Ok.... I have read the bit in Leerburg about dogs & babies..and it paints a very different scene to the one you described.T,and to not bound up to a baby smelling bundle could come in handy . I also quite like this idea... Both these articles give me a very different feel to your post.

You have given dangerous advice . You have also different ideas of what a 'proper' trainer is. There are many ways of training .. not all involve purely positive ..and none of the methods I know involve very harsh treatment as you describe.

Too Much Rough Play For A Puppy?
persephone replied to all creatures's topic in General Dog Discussion
And that is just what people are doing- suggesting you have a pen where pup can be confined to rest its body (and also to learn that it can be on its own happily) The puppy is very much a baby ..and I'm sure when your 7 yr old was a toddler she got put down for naps, etc during the day ? She was not just left to crawl around/run /be handled by older kids? Oh.. and if you have a dog tied up- AND a baby puppy free to still interact , please be aware that accidents can happen with rope/chain and baby puppy necks/legs. I have seen a puppy turn blue because it was playing with a tethered dog and got tangled. -

Need Advice - Dog Forgotten Toilet Training

Ok..a little dog doing multiple poo at night suggests a couple of things to me (that plus the skin....) Stress Food intolerance/change of food/too much food/wrong food. What do they feed? have they added/subtracted anything? when do they feed? -

They really need another view of the problem ..can they afford to get a professional in?(after a vet check) The person could then personally SEE how things are ..everyone's body language,etc... and hopefully find the problem. Frustrating and sad for everyone -
This is interesting- so if you have children-you cannot effectively discipline them if you love them dearly? I figure if you love a dog/child a LOT ,then you will take a step backwards if needed, to be able to teach and discipline them as they grow. Loving translates into preparing them to behave in a socially acceptable manner- to learn consequences of behaviour, and to enjoy praise earned ..Just my take on it. 'LOVE' should be the window of light- letting you see what's needed, and a source of strength to carry it out :D

You can do 'watermarks' using plain old picasa... just add text, and adjust opacity . I love lightroom... I don't use folders etc like I should , so haven't even looked at that side, but can follow most of the rest ..but cannot follow photoshop :D
