  1. I rarely read 'in the news' - cos it's all bad ,and folks getting angry....
  2. yep- the beagle puppies are so cute it should be illegal then they grow up! From the little I know- they do much better in a 'pack' and do not have that dependence on humans which many dogs do...... their nose rules! I think perhaps something else for a first-timer?
  3. She is tiny..and she needs you to take her out around every 1/2 hour!Say "do wee" or something every time she starts to go ..praise her for weeing etc outside Crate training does NOT mean locking a puppy in a crate for hours and hours .... do a search on here for 'crate training ' You may also enjoy reading from this site CLICK HERE Have fun with your new little puppy
  4. Africa- perhaps you could have an OS holiday, and spend time with some of these dogs 'in person' ? Wanting to be the only person with 'something different' ..and having never owned one of these types of dog before ..Hmmm... taken from HERE On the purely practical.... trying to keep a 90kg cool in Australia could be a bit tricky!! Those coats are meant for snow and blizzards Click ->AMAZING DOGS!! but definitely not something I would want !
  5. Stunning! I love watching hoverflies
  6. Agreed! maybe a teensy bit more weight... but just a teensy bit . She looks terrific ..and is very pretty! Thanks for the extra photos.
  7. oh :D for you... for having to wait out those final days ... run free Kassy.
  8. Hard to tell without a few more shots .. but on first glance it does not look as if she is desperate need of extra feeding Just go slowly and adjust if needed. Did you read thru th e link I posted earlier on raw feeding?
  9. and be STRONG. Dogs are resilient and sensible ..and will not pursue a lost cause (usually)
  10. We have outside dogs... they are brought up from day one outside..and so there is usually no problem after the first noisy night or two in a new pen. Hamlet started off an outside puppy .. he slept in a little shed for the first weeks .... he had a very cosy bed (it was Winter) a source of heat (hot bricks) ..and lots of soft bedding .... no problems.
  11. Anticipating more photos of this beautiful girl ... lean or not !
  12. blue amstaff- you would certainly be disgusted if you saw some of our working koolies They look a bit leaner than your new dog ... but are healthy, and active and shiny
  13. oops- her's the LINK for raw feeding info .. I forgot to add it Oh.. and you may find she gets an upset stomach if you quickly introduce new foods/increased quantity. Take it slowly and gradually for best results .
  14. Sh'e pretty That photo may be deceiving.. but I cannot see any hip bones or knobbly spine... and she seems to have good muscles.Another photo may be clearer... I'm sure she will soon be full & happy
  15. A good update.. but please note poodlefan's post. A chain leash can also do YOU damage if the dog pulls/whips around. Now you have found out how effective a halti is at suppressing behaviour in teh initial stages ( this may change as the dog gets used to teh feeling!!) please do get a professional trainer to show you how to walk/control your dog...
  16. Hope your partner gets to read this ..... I think she is doing SO well.. at 12 weeks- to be letting herself out to toilet, and sleeping quietly in the living room!! Why would you want to change that and create chaos?
  17. I thought they were classed as a restricted /banned breed?
  18. Fleuri- please email that photo, with petshops address straight to the RSPCA!!! :D
  19. How disappointing- and dangerous!! There are so many questions.... was he ever walked by the person from whom you got him ?Was he temperamentally assessed as being suitable to rehome? I agree with getting professional help ASAP NO walks outside your yard .. instead do LOTS of short obedience/trick training sessions in the yard/house :D Make sure he has a treat ball/soccer balls, etc to keep him busy Buy good quality collar/lead ,especially for large dogs... not the ornamental stuff sold everywhere! Keep us posted!
  20. Yes! That's the video I had seen. Poor dog. .. and that's sort of the way I see this dog's problem ...only a tail, not a leg...and with a heightened arousal state... it is ..."ATTACK!!"
  21. Oh You thought you were doing the right thing for your girl.... not your fault at all.She died at home.. amongst familiar things ... R I P Smudge ...
  22. I don't use crates ... but would think that if a dog cannot stretch out-/sit up /whatever .. for hours .. then it wouldn't be a very restful night...a bit like us trying to sleep comfortably in a bus seat . If it is a warm night.. all our dogs sleep on their sides.. with legs stretched out - this being the coolest position ... they would need a pretty wide crate to sleep like this . Hoe does your girl sleep now - on your bed/sofa? Can she do the same in her crate ? this thread reminded me of all these great PHOTOS
  23. ..slightly OT ....But ,to me, this seems to NOT be 'spinning'/tail chasing... but ATTACKING the tail ... like attacking a dog about to steal her bone ...or am I being thick/pedantic .? the OP does not mention 'spinning' that I have seen,.. but does mention food guarding... Is it the same class of behaviour? Does it get managed in teh same way?
