Why Do You Like The Kinds Of Dogs You Do?
persephone replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I dislike 'clingy',dependent dogs ... I dislike dogs with heaps of drive /energy ..they make me tired I like dogs who look robust and built for a purpose... I like dogs who look straight and sturdy. I like wiry haired or short haired dogs... Mind you ..I am very much a cat person ... -
Ok.. two suggestions from me .. cropping is not my favourite... I don't seem to ever get things where they should be anyway....
-
Try feeding him chicken frames .. I worry about them swallowing chicken necks whole.. and the necks are just a size to get stuck I also feel lamb rosettes are a size which is dangerous... I feed them to my cats :D Try bones like lamb brisket ...beef ribs . While he has a tummy upset though.. as suggested.. boiled chciken and rice.. with a gradual change back to normal food over a few days. good point he also doesn't really need schmakos /rawhide . Try Nature's Gift treats ... and leave the rawhide for some time until he is all settled again. Any diet additions should be done gradually... or there will be stomach problems.

Best Anti-chewing Spray?
persephone replied to UltimatePup's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Management will help! Make sure pup is never unsupervised, and loose in a room. Use baby gates/puppy pen to section off a safe area. Provide pup with Nylabones/kongs/treat balls/fresh bones that are fine to chew. Chewing the leaves on pot plants...electrical wiring/paint /plastic could lead to serious health problems ... and it is your responsibility to keep your puppy safe -

Council & Neighbours - Separation Anxiety
persephone replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
There are worse things, IMO than debarking. Ok.. can you borrow/buy one of those security type cameras ..and aim it at the yard/dogs? That way you wil have a record of what happens during the day. OR.. buy a digital voice recorder...they run for HOURS.. tuck it safely out the back ..switch it on, and have a listen when you get home. That way you will knoe/have proof.... -
I have always been fortunate to have a replacement waiting in the wings ... it is the only way I can manage ..not always planned... but it has happened. I can not stand to see an empty bed/kennel . You do whatever you feel is right for you... cry , stamp on the floor , write a poem... plant a tree....whatever. Everyone is different . I am sorry you no longer have your old boy... ;)

Council & Neighbours - Separation Anxiety
persephone replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
..Hi.You now contact a recommended professional person. That person comes to your house..checks what the problem is, and helps you to manage it. That person, if they arereputable and honest .. can then write down their findings/instructions which should help explain things to neighbours/council. If you ask on here- I'm sure someone will suggest who to contact ;) Wishing you success....and a quiet dog ;) -
I have never received much..but it is always accurate. Don't forget that 'recently' their production costs went up...so if you didn't alter your percentage , you won't be getting as much ...also.. check your older works are marked correctly. Also..they don't pay anything unless you have $20.00 or more 'in kitty' Sorry..not much help, probably. Does THIS help ?

Is there somewhere tiled that you can babygate off or something?
-
Can you get someone to make tailor made 'trampoline' type beds for the crates? this way there is air circulating. That, with a wire crate.. and they should be a lot cooler.

Hamlet 'owns' our couch..no one else uses it much. I have a large old curtain on it as a cover... one of the sun proofed/waterproof ones . then, over that goes his sheet/pillow. The lower waterproof layer means couch stays ok He hates lying on the couch without his covers !

It's great stuff though slight sidetrack:o ...we only get stickfast/rabbit fleas here... and they congregate on eartips/between toes, and on bare belly . all areas quickly and easily and economically sprayed with permoxin ..and the dogs accept it happily

I think free-feeding takes away a bonding chance/experience ;) each time we feed our dog - we get a chance to give teh dog something it wants, in return for a behaviour ..we also usually pour praise on the dog ..and teh dog learns that WE are the providers of the good stuff Just leaving a bowlful on the floor does nothing.....except teach otherwise well fed dogs to snack ....

Need More Help! Dog Doesnt Respond To Name
persephone replied to tigger000's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
So- if you are at home- he sticks close and responds every time to his name? is he just not doing so when outside? Up until recently , how have you walked him each day ? Has he been like this for years? Or is it just since you started a new routine? I don't train using food- but would suggest associating his name with the TASTIEST things - tiny shreds of roast chicken... or little fragments of dried liver ...and make sure he smells it all -so he knows what is available
