Best Way To Keep Mosquitoes Away?!
persephone replied to Bulldust's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am using odourless aerogard spray on all our dogs twice a day. I have mosquito coils burning as well. Get th e outdoor coils - good ones .. put them in proper holders.. Mortein make a good one- looks like a tin can with holes Keep the coils going 24/7 under pergola/verandah or where the dogs spend time. Please be careful... I have heard ( no verification that someone lost 3 working sheep dogs to mozzies .. just sucked them dry) here the mozzies are thick as a bee swarm every night ..and I worry about the animals who don't have mozzie coils (roos etc) Do you have any lavender oil? That works a little .. With the RID .. put gloves on.. slather your hands, and rub it gently over the pup's fur .. trying to avoid it getting to their skin.... just ruffle their coats ..especially belly/legs/heads I understand your problem We have an Oops litter of 4 week olds here.. and , touch wood, mozzie coils in their kennel 24/7 seems to be doing the trick. It is so cruel...even watching the poor birds in trees at night.. they tuck heads under wings.. but their legs are covered in a layer of mozzies. nasty -
A lot of dogs can have 'the eye' not just koolies She is a lovely HEINZ pup. (for the young ones ...HEINZ used to advertise "57 varieties" )

Don't carry a stick... just a small water pistol or squirt bottle filled with water/vinegar ...or something really stinky and gross ....

I am so sorry ..after all the worry and wondering... to have had to let her fly free.. -
IMO it is in cases where the object is a ball of some sort.....the dog is 'in extremis', you have no vet to call on..and no other suitable tools or helpers to grasp the ball safely.... injury to the person trying to help can be severe.... there is nothing else really that can be done. Trying to get a choking panicking dog into a car and driving safely would be nigh on impossible The dog I helped was not able to be held still - he was thrashing and frothing and snapping .... diving in at the split second he collapsed was our only option then. Risky, hell yes! But he would have died with us watching, otherwise

Ouch! ..well,at least NOW if you have to insert an arm, you have protection :o Hope it heals well and quickly

His nose looks ok to me .. I think problems arise when the area immediately around the nose 'leather' is pale/white . Your dog has dark pigment there which is a good thing!

A vet check.. prescribed antihistamines ,and then finding out what he is allergic to!! Allergies which cause hives can be dangerous .. not often, but the reaction can be.

When an animal is literally choking and oxygen starved- obeying commands like 'teeth' are not a high priority
-
*nods* i have done this .. once at work....the dog passed out, voided bowel/bladder .. ball was removed..dog was thumped on chest and given oxygen.. and survived with only some bruised ribs I was doing changeover with the day receptionist... no vet in the building, and a distraught couple with their big black GSD X banged on the door .. dog was frantic and frothing ..and I explained that we just had to wait... it was a horrible few minutes, and I was very worried ..but- it worked!! I CRINGE every time I see dogs jumping/catching tennis balls or small rubber balls . I tell people to put them in a sock.. or use a bigger ball or a frisbee .

A check up by a vet would be the best way to work out what her problem is .
-
I wouldn't muck about- it could be a tummy bug or anything No ticks in your area?I would suggest you get her to the vets. All our working dogs are outside- (no icecubes) ..and they are fine ..heatstroke ,with the wonderful measures you have in place, shouldn't be too much of a problem, IMO. Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Going without food won't hurt her, and will give her gut a rest Make sure she has plenty to drink ,though-but don't force her.

Instead of processed food, then, why not try him on a diet of fresh, raw food? Lean meat, soft bones, some vegetable matter , yogurt, and joint supplements etc .. -
