  1. Dogs are vocal .. they bark.whine/growl/howl. unfortunately in the close confines of suburbia .. these natural behaviours are frowned upon:( I love watching pups play and bark .. but I don't live in town. Barking at people/other dogs ...hmmm there may be all sorts of reasons WHY - and if you want the behaviour to change/stop, then first you must know WHY pup is doing it. If you correct a pup who is fearful, for example..or if you comfort a pup who is fearful , things may get worse Same as if you pat a dog who is being aggressive .... To have some idea WHY, you need to have an understanding of how dogs relate to their world, how they communicate, and what their body language says Dogs do NOT see things/people/dogs like we do ...dogs can pick up on scents, on tiny tiny body language cues we miss, on sounds we cannot hear ...and on shapes/postures which may be odd. to start your research have a read of these links LINK LINK LINK It takes time, but do lots of reading, posting ,like you are ,and you will learn quite quickly what your pup is telling you!
  2. Fuzzy, you are certain of this? I have seen pups of that age disembowel one of their littermates ..and no, they were not playing! Also ,puppies several weeks old can be , and should be taught that teeth do NOT ever touch human skin!
  3. Normal puppy checks will not find problems with hormone levels. or in the brain, or other internal things ..possibly wouldn't even find the source of any chronic pain ....
  4. Honestly, as this pup is now big enough and mature enough to escalate behaviours .. a professional to work with the owner is their only sensible option. No more 'home fixes', alpha rolls or trainers of dubious reputations.. ask on here for a recommendation, giving the city/area where the owner lives ..and get it SORTED!
  5. ..and where did your friend buy this pup?
  6. Why? Not all dogs are born either stable, or bombproof, unfortunately .research and careful selection of breeder/bloodlines helps to ensure the purchase of a solid temperament pup ...... My only suggestion is to seek the help of a qualified professional, who is recommended by folks in the know ..and who WILL provide assistance tailored to the dog, the problem ,and the abilities of the handler ... oh, and what did the breeder say when told of this pup's behaviours?
  7. We get ours from mitre 10 . or thrifty link .. they have some different sizes/types...
  8. perhaps give him meaty bones like roo tails ..which he has to GNAW sideays at ,with those back teeth !! Most softish bones get taken with the front teeth...crunched a few times with the back ones, and swallowed. Dogs with a meaty rootail or whole lamb neck need to gnaw and gnaw to get all that meat off properly..and it is that 'head-on-the-side' chewing gristly meaty bones which will clean the sides of molars etc
  9. Speaking to his dog - author unknown: "God gave you fleas to remind you you're a dog!"
  10. Looks like a glitch in the labelling has happened ... I've seen dogs on Australian sites wrongly ID'd as well ...they all seem to have been done on the same day.. and two of them appear to be the same business /pet shop .... My vote is for typo or web master error ....
  11. LOL! he looks like a shm@cko ad!!!!
  12. people who feed lots of bones/raw tend to not recommend WEIGHT BEARING bones, like legs... ie: shanks as they are very hard..and can splinter into very sharp pieces ..as well as being possibly a bit hard on teeth . brisket bones. pelvis bones, skulls, roo tails, oxtails, chicken frames ..al these are good digestible chewing bones Shelley is a lucky girl!!
  13. Liver. kidney and heart are very rich foods..liver especially needs to be used sparingly! Chicken carcasses and lamb flaps are great to feed, as they are bone and meat all in one
  14. Ours are all outside .. but we are miles from anywhere padlock your gate ... It's unlikely your dog would be stolen tho...he is not of a breed used for fighting , he can not be used for breeding ... he's not easily resellable, like a cute li'l fluffy ....
  15. In the meantime..throw them some whole chicken wings..so they can learn to CHEW, not slurp wet food
  16. I thought it was.. a bit like our 'split ends', bleached, dead bits which look coarser... ?
  17. Just looks like dead hair to me ...it used to appear on our kelpies when they were in between coats...
  18. he will be missing familiar smells/sounds/sights. he will be missing his family ...Don' t fuss too much.. have a routine and stick to it , and have patience.
  19. Oh..and after I saw where you were I agree with Jakemon. he is probably hot! let him sleep on teh floor if he sleeps soundly there A soft crate would be very warm... body heat reflected back ,bedding, not much airflow..lovely & cosy for Wintertime, but not ideal for your temperatures....
  20. he is a tiny baby . he is used to playing with other dogs. he is a baby he is not used to playing alone. he probably hasn't seen many toys like the ones you have Patience.............................. you have 15 or so years for him to learn stuff !!
  21. Maybe have a read of this site? CLICK HERE There is a lot of useful stuff meanwhile... he is a baby, everything is new , and there are no 'quick fixes' I would however suggest you not close the door yet ..let him get happier with his bed first
  22. That must have been very scary! depends just how determined to get out she is have you thought of building her a secure enclosure for when you are not around?
  23. Chaining her is not the best idea can you not build a run/enclosure ...? much safer and less inclined to frustrate a dog... Training may work well.. two or three short sharp sessions a day .. only 10 -15minutes a time lots of praise , and long on lead walks , where she has to behave.. not wander/sniff, run around the oval as you know.. when you work , you are keen to relax .. if you are playing/going out, you don't feel as tired ! same with dogs . maybe she'd like iceblocks? Freeze unsalted chicken stock, containing some of her food.treats /fruit , in an old icecream container leave for her to play with/eat during the day :D
