  1. I also use the plastic coated lines from a hardware shop
  2. I agree- don't dose unless you know he needs it . he is only a baby yet .. he has many years of chemical exposure ahead of him these tablets are not a 'protection' they kill parasites in/on the dog . .. As he is eating mince & rice ... does he already have tummy problems which may have made him throw up ? Unless the tablets were especially coated ones ( to reach the intestines) you wouldn't see a tablet after 45 minutes.. they would have dissolved ..which does NOT mean they would have been absorbed properly ...just that the filler had been softened/broken down in the stomach. Either way, wait a day or so- then, if you have to, and have the all clear from the manufacturer, give him one tablet at a time .. over a couple of days - to be safe
  3. Whilst my language may have been milder , I probably would have also done a bit of a panic-driven yell or two I tend to get nervous at the presence of off lead , large dogs ..and adrenaline takes over!
  4. Make your own Mince, dehydrate ..pack ... Or just use fresh carrot juice on the food if you think the vitamins are neccessary
  5. If the pill is inserted properly into a cube of meat/cheese .. of the right size.. it should , in teh throw& catch game .. just get swallowed ! Always make sure of two normal cubes .. then a pill one, then two or three normal ones If using cheese/meat .. just make a little slit with a knife .. and slip the pill in to the middle - feed out immediately.
  6. Whatever you decide, do it quickly ... a bladder full of urine is both uncomfortable and dangerous .... Poor old boy
  7. Poor old boy .. hope he recovers . It's always a worry when the oldies get ill
  8. If you don't have cats- permoxin works well!! We ONLY have the 'stickfast/rabbit' fleas here- notorious for surviving a lot of flea treatments ..but the permoxin does the trick ..easily and fairly cheaply . Also repels/kills flies/mozzies/brown ticks
  9. The JRT ate dead rats/mice. Please do NOT use bait if you have dogs /cats. diligent trapping will do the job
  10. If his anal glands emptied.. then I would suggest trying to fix the problem, rather than putting the dog outside. Anal glands are emptied normally when the dog poos. IF the poo is a good size, and hard enough.. it will help squeeze out the glands .Of course, diet is responsible for this - so perhaps his diet needs to be changed a bit? Anal glands can also easily be emptied regularly by a vet ,or an owner - once you learn how - only takes a minute .
  11. No need for war Buy covers for the cars! :)That's the easiest - also stops cat pawprints/urine spray from strays, and dust! One way to stop the swallows ( who will keep your place free of mozzies etc ) is not the prettiest, but it works. along the struts in the shed- between them & the roof..esp in the angles/joins.. you need to place crumpled up bird net ..pack it in- so there is nowhere for them to build nests. I do ours with the net on a long pole...
  12. How often do you change their bedding, and what do you wash it in? Is their hair trimmed at all? When were their anal glands checked last? What is in the yard? lawn?dirt?paving? Smelly dog can be all sorts of things..from the need for clean new beds, to a yeast infection, to seeping anal glands, to dirty feet ..to all sorts of other problems .A bit hard to diagnose on a forum
  13. They will- cos they really look a 'couple'
  14. Oh! he does have eyes!!And lovely twinkly ones, too Most of the shots they cannot be seen :/ http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm73/an.../IMG_7786-2.jpg this is one I like :D
  15. no - different plant - different chemical compounds. Click on THIS LINK for some ideas which may be useful Oh- and if your dog bringing home a flea is your worst nightmare .. I envy you :D
  16. Good morning what breed of dog? What diet? How often are baths, and what with?
  17. Nappies will not stop mating. Separation is the only sure way ... or perhaps you may consider getting some chemical desexing, which can then be reversed when/if you want.
  18. he had a happy time with you , and a belly full of roast he knew no more fear.
  19. LOL. If your dog doesn't mind- I would leave them be...but perhaps find a special toy/treat the pup enjoys..and distract her with that occasionally... Hamlet, when a pup used to often run beside the adult dogs for a 100 mtrs, hanging on to their necks..and when he woul let one go, he'd grab another . Occasionally he would get trounced by a not -so-willing adult ..but mostly there was no hassle. he did it for ever so long..
  20. Well..perhaps ,next time ,have a closer look . Often they have bloodied mouths/paws, from trying to chew/dig out. They are very often dehydrated and their heart rates are thru the roof ..or conversely, they may be still and cold and in shock. If the cage is an open weave, they are very often stressed just be in an exposed position. I have stopped using those traps, after seeing the state of captive mice
  21. No wonder you have not much respect for other smaller life forms
  22. Mice are animals, with a reasonable level of intelligence . pet mice can be trained to do quite a lot of interesting behaviours , and can make delightful pets. That said - the house mouse is not a good thing to have around ..and KILLING them quickly and cleanly is the best option... killing them in a way which respects that they ,too, are alive, and ,like us, warm blooded, capable of fear and of feeling pain. I will kill mice , for sure, but with a suitable strong snap trap where possible.I hate seeing them suffer in the cage 'humane' traps ... I gave up using those after I drowned a couple of lots ...not nice. I shoot feral cats and foxes, and rabbits, too :one well placed shot- instant death . That is the way it should be . ANY animal deserves some respect, and as little pain and fear as possible at the time of its dying. (and yes, I have cats as pets, and have had house trained/sleep-in-my-bed rabbits as pets in the house as well ...rodents that they are
