yep .. he was from folks who bred their own pigdogs .. we rescued him after they dumped him in the bush at 8 weeks for being a scaredy-cat (we think that's what happened) He was absolutely beautiful ... well - so ugly he was beautiful :p he was around 43 kg , lean,,and around 32 inches at the shoulder.

Just found this one ... My gorgoeus boy, Kieran, with a then very young Tiy . Both gone , but both still with me always
-
..and just remember - there are lots of us here who have been there, done that ..and who can understand some of what you are feeling/thinking. This community can be the best of places when one needs support at these times

I couldn't leave any of mine 'til they needed to be carried / force fed/ manually toileted or anything like that That is not 'living'. It is a personal preference - and perhaps I act too soon... My old Mitchell was into his teens . he was overweight, due to being on continual cortisone for allergies . he was covered in lipomas . he was still happy.. and enjoyed his food, and could walk a hundred metres in the sun .. and attempt to chase bunnies Then he became incontinent ...and this distressed him . he would try to get to the door ..and not make it , whereupon he would get upset . This was the signal ,to me. He would poo his bed then... and he lost some strength in his back end ... So we went for a final bunny hunt - and he was happily wagging his tail as he crossed the bridge. ...that is the memory I have of him ... in the sun, chasing bunnies - not incapacitated and in pain , not being carried , and having 'that; look in his eyes- that look where you know the dog is pre occupied with a pain/feeling of much greater importance than happenings in the outside world ... Whenever the time is - and whoever chooses it - it is hard, but I honestly believe the apprehension, the planning, and the impending loss is worse than afterwards, when you realise that your pet is not suffering anymore, and that they knew a few moment's peace and love as they drifted away.

HD Xrays need the dog to be sedated/anaesthetised .. because they need to be positioned in a certain way ..and totally relaxed..so you will needto make a day to have him done ..and leave him there for some time . HERE is the info from the clinic I presume you attend ... and an excerpt : Fingers crossed for you

Nice to see the pics look at those eyes!

yep senior moment . Thanks .

Hmmm. when the proper Xrays are taken of hips.. then the joints can be seen. The shape of the bones, the amount of displacement and the femur head can all be examined- and then decisions can be made as to what may help, and once a vet can actually see how the joint is affected, then they can work out surgical options . If you don't want surgery/xrays then I am wondering why your dog has not been offered acupuncture for the pain? Better than 5x a day dosing ;) I hope your guinea pig's surgery goes well
-
Poor little dog I don't believe any medication can/will cure HD.It can't - as the hip joints are malformed/not working properly pain relief can help... but surgery is the only way to permanently alter the function of the affected joint/s. There are varying surgical procedures which give relief from pain, and better movement ..depending on the diagnosis/amount of joint damage/pain experienced/age of dog , etc.... Can you give us a bit more info? How old is your dog? What did the breeder say ? Did you get more than one opinion? Did the vet who did the Xrays have good experience in diagnosing/treating HD? Can you tell us whereabouts you are - as I am sure someone here can suggest a vet who is good with these sort of issues -

On adult sheep? I've never seen it , thankfully - but then again, ours are HUGE solid merinos .
-
here- this story may help ...LINK
-
bruno that's awful . AFAIK maremmas live with the sheep all the time ... and so guard them all the time ... they do not 'work' sheep .. just live with them as they would with a dog pack ...and are not really 'pets' You would need more than one .. and I guess they would need to grow with your sheep ? Have you looked at these things ? LINK

I prefer the last days/weeks of my dog's life to be ones I remember happily ... so if it can be arranged, I let them go while they are still happy and enjoying life as much as is possible. Thinking of you..

:( it sounds more like dogs to me ... I have seen sheep down, and yes the rear end gets eaten,,and the tongue, if it's foxes. How awful. My brother has just come in- I asked him ..and he said that cockers couldn't rip a throat OUT ..they may harass and leave bite marks everywhere .... he said it would be a big dog . where the ewe was.. it may pay to check for dog hair ..even on the wool. the tracks ... get photos of them .. use something like a matchbox alongside them for scale ..and save them.

Welcome nalaridge this is good advice! the MOST IMPORTANT RECALL TIP I know is to never ever ever be cross with a dog when it eventually comes to you. coming to you ..that is the BEST trick your dog learns-and should always be worth a reward

What a business Just thinking- if the vet does stitches- isn't that more holes to bleed? I hope you get some answers soon... it must be so worrying for you.
-
So, when you do let her out, she has wee'd in the laundry? if so , then I would suggest she can not hold on as long as you want her to .... you may need to toilet her in the middle of the night still... or wake up a bit earlier and put her outside iwth a big bone- and go back to bed. If she is playing with her food ... if her hips/ribs are not sticking out ..then she probably doesn't need 3 meals a day May I suggest you try THIS when you feed here as well....

Looks like a golden retriever X to my eye .....he's beautiful! Looks as if he would love to do some dog sporty things!!

At that age- he probably hasn't even got a full mouth of teeth!! -
It's probably very sore Please take him to vet ...or at least speak with the vet. Rubbing it may cause stitches to come loose- or may do other damage .
