It is one of my pet hates .. seeing owners allowing dogs (and bitches) to use the whole world as their toilet -

"easier" is not the reason you take a dog to an off lead park - sorry. You take dogs to an off lead park to socialise/play... on TOP of their everyday walks/training sessions. I believe all dogs need a session or 3 of education each day .. otherwise, what do they do with their brains ????? if uyour pup has perfect recall, instant 'Down", will happily retrieve/drop an item, or will cheerfully give you his toys/bones/sytolen treasures... then look up trick training on here - lots of folks do snazzy trick training if your dog needs to improve any of the basics I mentioned, then that's what you do a few times a day. Pups/dogs NEED brainwork otherwise they start to think up things to do themselves .. like digging/fence fighting/chewing plants/hoses.. all that stuff :p You go with him ;) or watch him thru a window.. or keep him in and only take him on a long line often ...almost like housetraining again By all means distract him from marking when walking ... BUT after 10 minutes or so of good controlled walking .. take him somewhere suitable and using your toilet command- let him pee . That way he is learning that he can pee .. but YOU say 'when' Yopu then have the knoweledge that your dog is not fouling every upright object in the neighbourhood -
A few of ours do it (farm bred Koolies) We trained a couple to do it on command I wouldn't suggest you play on the floor with her ... and perhaps ,with all teh other good things you're doing .. make sure she gets NO attention .. no eye contact, nuthin' ,unless she has 4 feet on thefloor ;)

We use those large plastic bins - used to store bulk honey etc .. screw top lid.

oops You need to keep him on lead or a long line , if you cannot control what he does in public. Train him to pee/poo on command (it won't work 100% if he's entire and into teh habit of marking everywhere) When you see him start to toilet - use your chosen word .. and praise .EVERY time . Then, take him on long line/lead .. and use the command when he sniffs.. if he Toilets- then lots of praise . Make sure he toilets before you take him anywhere! Taking him home doesn't really help him learn anything ..... and recall will not be quick enough ... sniff/pee is only a couple of seconds!! I would also suggest you increase your daily training sessions .. maybe 3 instead of one Just a few minutes at a time ... so he gets used to paying attention to you ;) As to the desexing bit .... unless he is a show dog or a breeding dog - then castration , either surgically or with an implant is a good idea - although it may not stop the habit of marking -
R I P Bazzy - so sorry

Blood is always a bit of a worry .. if she is no better in the morning, i would suggest a vet visit - pups can go downhill fast ,with tummy bugs ... No food - plenty of water.. and see how she is tomorrow- poor little thing .

Welcome he is a BABY who has just been removed from everything he knows. So , yes, he will vocalise. Where does he sleep? What kind of crate have you? What exercise does he get? When do you feed him? What toilet training had he before you go him?

Black Stools And Increased Thirst
persephone replied to Curlybert's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
oakway- It seems this has been done ... Curlybert - Black stool indicates digested blood ...and we see it in our dogs if they have pigged out on liver/very fresh red meat etc - lasts for a couple of days. I have also seen this in a dog with internal bleeding .. I wish you luck at the vets ...has she done any normal coloured stools, or is everything black? :hugs: -
lean meat isn't really fattening... personally I'd skip the beans/peas stuff - dog's aren't made to digest that ;) lean meat plus rib bones/roo tail & a few veges , plus a bit of reduced fat yogurt and teh odd egg .. ? Sorry, I don't believe in filling stomach space with fibre ( and sugar and carbs) ... they're dogs, not humans ...good satisfying protein, a little fibre and some bones etc is what I use . Everyone has different approaches .. and mine is that dogs are designed to feel satisfied/full with protein/meat ;)

How To? Pending Pup And The Cat Litter Tray...

..you have another 14 years of that :p NOW is a good time to introduce several 5 minute training sessions a day .. and , if you haven't, start getting him used to walking on collar & lead . He can also have short handling sessions (NOT play) where he lies/stands still while you handle every part of him calmly and thoroughly.. his nails/under tail/sheath/inside mouth ... this is an excellent exercise -

A 9 week old has very little conscious control of bladder/bowel. It is YOUR responsibility to toilet him at least every 1/2 hour - and, if you leave him with no outdoor access, to train him to use a doggie loo indoors. ;) Think of it... you have a human baby - a few months old . he is having a nappy free time, and pees all over the carpet . NOT the baby's fault .. he is a baby . Same for baby pups. When they gotta go.. they GO. OH - and I think the crossbreed you have will be a very lively and vocal puppy .. two working breeds combined.. breeds with so much drive and energy .... It is not a cross I would take on .

persephone replied to Rolodex's topic in Puppy Chat
So- the pup was never inside? I am just wondering if being inside, and missing his family has just upset him a bit... definitely move away/stand up/ push him off .. but don't use his name . Just a very gruff AAh! or OFF !! - try that ...and ignore him for a minute or two -
So - what are these health issues?

New Puppy Getting A Bit Too Excited, What Do I Do?
persephone replied to Rolodex's topic in Puppy Chat
Hi - humping in a puppy this young is probably an excitement thing.. and displacement thing... What does the pup's breeder say about it? Was the puppy with mum & littermates still? was he by himself somewhere? What toys does he have? What do you do when he STARTS to look like he is going to hump? -
