  1. Steam cleaning probably would work .. and you could also wipe over the spots with dilute eucalyptus or lavender ... so it's not as attractive to lick? :( being alone sometimes sucks.
  2. Ok... probably right. I've seen that green vomit a few times Hope you have a plan for tonight ..and sleeping . Failing a plan..alcohol. Take care .
  3. Does the vet know what sort of poison yet? Glad you posted - I've been thinking of you
  4. It is probably a matter of just looking up the bylaws on your council website ....
  5. I dare say the dog moves .. it is not 100% confined to the small area of the front door? IMO, it is up to the folks who need to access the place to make a report if they want to . There may be a myriad of reasons why they don't want the dog in the backyard . maybe.......or maybe he is like a lot of dogs who are confined in some way ... very very vocal and showy ... until they are free - then it evaporates ;) We have one boy who is on a chain, and when he sees my goat, he will salivate and bark and growl and lunge .... he looks amazing! When he's off the chain ? No attempt is made to attack ,or anything.
  6. I can't see any reason it wouldn't be legal ? the dog is contained ...and on its own property ....
  7. ..and is the vet testing for what exactly the poison is/was? It may help solve the mystery.
  8. newfie paradise he looks marvellous now !!
  9. yep just ask how dog is , and let her know that you are willing to recommend websites/groomers /training places, etc .Ask to see photos , too
  10. It seems as if the condition of the fences (lack of fencing) wasn't noticed when you inspected teh house... that's a shame .. Is there not an answering machine/after hours number for the ranger?Just keep ringing and reporting . Those granules will not help a dog who is so possessive of territory/used to roaming , IMO. they are ok for dogs to stop them peeing on garden beds, but that's about all. Please don't interact in any sort of friendly manner with this dog . Rev the car` , beep the horn, squirt it ..bust balloons - anything to act as a reasonably decent deterrent ...and leave the rest to council . Your Mum should be able to sit outside on her property and not get agitated/scared by a dog. if it growls again.. make SURE you get photos/video...and if your Mum is scared, even call the police !
  11. Oh :( It certainly does sound like poison of some sort ... How awful for you , Julesp I hope there is someone who can help you check everything this morning ..and keep you company.
  12. Hmm .. The best example I saw was when our old Sam , (who, as a GSD X GR was tall enough to reach the sink) grabbed the tray with teh dog meat on it ..and carried it ever so carefully to teh dog beds under the table . he then put it down.... but Mitch grabbed most of it ..and Sam didn;t get more than a morsel for his trouble
  13. Hi It's more likely she may have some arthritis, or an injury which worsens with exercise . if you ask on here, someone may be able to recommend a good chiro in your area They will check her over and could find any sore spots/problems . Does this happen every day.. or only on occasions?
  14. Critter- I haven't voted, but would like to wish you well... and would also like to pat you on the back for thinking up some sort of different idea the fact that the idea has generated some interesting discussion is a bonus! :D
  15. I am from good irish stock . I don't consider the word offensive at all .. a definition for the context in which it is used here : the original (as a person, race, or language) from which others derive another : [mass noun] [usually with adjective or noun modifier] a person's ancestry or line of descent:her mother was of French stock a breed, variety, or population of an animal or plant.
  16. The dog needs to be squirted with a hose, or something - not have friendly overtures made ;) You don't want it to escape to your yard because it knows there's friendly folk there, do you? You want it OUT of your yard .
  17. I would recommend you first consult a behaviourist That way, you know EXACTLY why your dog barks ...and get taught strategies to both manage and to educate your dog to lessen the barking . having a professional (Not a franchise with a catchy name ) alongside you will be invaluable . Perhaps start with contacting K9pro ?You might also want to read THIS?
  18. I agree with poodlefan- your pup can not go outside & play .. interact with his environment ..even watch teh birds or shadows .. unless he is WITH YOU. So - in the static , relatively 'sterile' environment of your apartment .. YOU are all there is that is his to relate with , to watch, to learn from. he needs to have toys changed every day or two. he needs to have food provided in boxes/wrapped up /in treat balls ..in bottles ..AWAY from where you are . Being independent , and being alone are different , IMO. When you are at work - he can not be with you. simple. When you are home .. he needs to learn that he can still be physically away, but 'connected' .he needs to learn about his world by himself..and you need to continually change that environment, provide challenges in the way he does things... and rewards which he can give himself, for accomplishing tasks . I may be a bit biased - not at all keen on velcro dogs
  19. Take photos so that it can be seen they are on your property - record dates , call council. Do NOT try & restrain a dog showing aggression
  20. I thought the same ... website configured a certain way ? And breeding stock is a very common term.
  21. Sorry to hear that news Your vet would be the best one to get a prognosis from - he knows your dog, how much poison she ingested, and what damage it has done . I hope she makes a good recovery , and is feeling a lot more comfortable now .
