  1. Ahh. Corvus, I also didn't realise you were speaking of dogs with a serious bite history - I didn't see where that was specified . yes- if one had a dog who was known to be aggressive and who had caused injury - then appropriate measures should be taken to avoid any further injuries . ..however I would think , even with a muzzle on the body language may incite confrontation/attack from other dogs- so,as well as muzzling, segregation would be a useful thing. efs.
  2. admirable - however ... there is always a 'first time' . and every dog 'might' injure another dog. the probability is very very low, but they 'might'. Most dog owners have not the benefit of your education ..and are not aware of their dog's- or others, subtle body language. One day ... it 'just happens'
  3. may I suggest you IMMEDIATELY start N I L I F ? It stands for Nothing In Life Is Free ..and means the DOG decides how much affection it will get throughout the day ....by doing what pleases you!! When dog is not being calm/obedient, it gets NO attention . No picking up- no talking to, no patting .. BUT when dog has all 4 feet on the ground, is looking at you, is quiet,sits/lies down when near you , doesn't bounce around on the furniture, waits for dinner - a hundred different things during the day ...THEN dog gets attention, cuddles, whatever Basically the dog's day is an opportunity to earn all the affection it can handle ..not because it is there, and cute ..but because it has shown you a behaviour which is pleasing and calm and is good mannered . Dogs will learn VERY quickly like this- cos of course , they exist to take as much affection as we can give ;) Humans, on the other hand.... often have a bit of trouble with this way of behaving - they are impatient animals ... ;)
  4. I just like listening to him talk .. great accent ;) link excerpt
  5. Very pretty part of the world Well Done.!
  6. Hi What are you currently feeding them - or what were they being fed when you got them?
  7. I am sorry you've been disappointed by this dog . It is hard when they have their good points ...and you've had time to get attached. If ,as you say, he was ill when you got him- then their trainers may have also been not seeing him behave as he would have normally - but rather as a placid dog. As his health improved, and he felt comfortable - perhaps his true nature took over? As said, he may well be unstable ,and of poor temperament. At present, he is a danger to your parents - both by being too strong and unruly on walks, and by his aggressive behaviour,. I would also suggest contacting the RSPCA. If your dad does not have the money to spend on a professional , and lots of extra help , and the dog can not be rehomed because of this aggression , then it is perhaps kinder to everyone(including the dog) that he be sent back to the RSPCA.
  8. now it will cost him money- bet pup gets tied up or something....
  9. Oh so not a head butt then. Nasty.
  10. Not sure if this is correct or not - came from another forum ... but I cannot find anything on the gov't product recall page, or Dermcare's page ,,,
  11. Yes. It may not even have been a bite - rather a badly split lip from a head butt ... ... may be........
  12. That is a great update _ I can almost see your grin!
  13. folks who have no idea of a dog's capabilities should have been with me this afternoon -had to use a dog to catch a sheep for me ..and yes, she used her teeth/weight to do so when told.
  14. IF the reporting is correct .....
  15. I've only met one - and he was lovely loved bush camping trips- was terrific with the little kids ,and was a good watchdog .
  16. ...and, IMO why we are seeing many more people with bites. DOGS BITE !! joe public is not exposed anymore to hunting dogs/suburban dogs fighting over bitches/food as used to happen ..or people having a 'bitey' dog in their yard ... joe public is too well insulated from dog, the predator/carnivore/animal and collective memory is disappearing amongst a soft fluffy ,perfumed cloud of cuddly lapdog. ..and so many dogs have no idea of what they are or how to behave anymore ....for varying reasons... they should be treated with respect and caution - especially unknown dogs. It is such a sad way we are 'progressing'
  17. ;) my old cockerXBC used to have one of those .. I used to gel it and have it sticking up! :p
  18. Check with your vet when you have your 'new puppy' checkup , perhaps? When was pup last wormed ,and with what? Are you in an area noted for heartworm? Do you have noticeable fleas in the area? What did the pup's breeder suggest/use?
