AS there is no mention in your post of a vet visit .. it is hard for us to say what could have been the problem. Our dogs kill/eat lizards, and have never been sick..I handle them..and have kept them as pets for years and I'm sure often i don't bother washing straight away- I've not suffered either...*touch wood* the black stool concerns me ..as that could have been blood. No ideas from me - except I would have thought diarrhoea would be present in cases of salmonella poisoning... Hope your girl stays well.

poor cow - they probably broke her pelvis doing what they did ... there are ways to make it easier ...and a bullet is infinitely preferable. The only consolation is that they have lost a lot of money ..and that will hurt them. -
Pomeranian Puppy Toilet Terror/ Am I Going Mad?
persephone replied to Cattleya's topic in Puppy Chat
She is a tiny tiny baby ..and probably need to be taken outside at least every 1/2 hour .Is there a glitch in my training? I think so . NO way can she hold on for 3 hrs during the day ..and possibly not at night she is a baby. Are my expectations too high? possibly. Was the first 8 weeks of her life conditioned to relieve herself on newspaper/ puppy pads in such close proximity to her play and sleeping quarters a factor? yes.Was she purchased from a reputable breeder? I was going to suggest you speak with them. After these accidents will she continue throughout her maturity to use these surfaces as a toilet despite 9/10 times it's on the desirable location, grass? Not if she gets lots of praise for using grass..and that she is prevented from using other surfaces. (try using a long lead on her) Should I treat the concrete and the rest of the undesirables like our dwelling and restrict, restrict, restrict? Just make sure that her leader/teacher keeps her where she needs to be Am I being too hard on myself? Don't know ;) -

Comfortis kills fleas. paw paw ointment - anything like that may be soothing, but I think it may also encourage more licking ...and attract`hair/dust etc to stick to his belly
-
best of luck with it all

that's sad . -
..but wouldn't it be better to ascertain if it IS a flea allergy ? That's why I am interested to hear what the vet had to say...we all know allergies are tricky to keep on top of

What did your vet prescribe?
-
Not a veterinary opinion, obviously ...... It could be conjunctivitis ..he could have a bit of grit or something in there ... he squinting or anything? You can try wiping it gently with some cold black tea (the tannic acid is a mild disinfectant) several times a day ..but if it doesn't improve.. or he is squinting .. or you notice anything else - best you take him to a vet.
-
Nope. They don't often get human food, though .... they will eat most fruit if offered.
-
If his skin is dry, I'd be very wary of washing him with anything which may remove oils .... maybe just rinse well in warm water .. and add the cider vinegar as suggested ? You don't need shampoo just to rinse off dandruff/pollen ;)

No reaction here.... just one bleary eye opened . -
There are possibly several reasons a vet could look for .. but my guess is that she is eating way too fast . have you tried feeding her from a treat ball ? that way she rolls it around, and only gets a couple of bits at a time (presuming you're feeding kibble) . if you are just feeding dry .. you can also use a sturdy softy drink or juice plastic bottle with a wide mouth fill it with the food .. show her where the food comes out .. and leaver her to it! you could also try splitting her meal into smaller lots ,and feed 2 or 3 times a day ?

I usually just do it the easy way .. using picasa or photoscape ... don't do it often ..and only for fun BUT for more detailed help..have a read HERE DPS is a wonderful resource
-
If he's at the touch/scratch stage I would think that some internal help is also needed- a diet that supports skin ..maybe some anti histamines as well . Refrain from brushing, if it sets off the itches , too .. Is his skin/coat dry or oily?

Where Have All The Black Dogs Gone?
persephone replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
They are all beautiful In my previous life - most of my fave labs were black ones -
they evolved to live in the rainforest ..not to have to deal with humans/dogs/cars and an artificial environment...although they can adapt, given safety and support. LINK They are not 'stupid' at all. Their brains are perfectly adequate for the life they should be living... ;) Their brain has not been programmed to deal with colourbond, and small enclosed areas with dogs ... they are programmed to exist on the same patch of territory that has supported the past 100 generations ....

yep. we put dogs bred to withstand below freezing temperatures in temperate/tropical climates ... they have to stay cool somehow.
