  1. *nods* eyes, ears, teeth, skin folds,...all sorts of things .
  2. That was my thought - someone may have come across him , and was worried about 'the authorities'..so left him to be found by a good samaritan.
  3. Hi.. a few questions to get more of an idea ...there are so many variables with a seemingly simple question ;) have you owned this breed before? is she to be an outside dog? what conditions was she in at her breeders before she came to you? what training do you do with her each day? what size/breed/age is your other dog?Does she come inside ?
  4. It will probably come back slowly - but often deeper scars stay pink .
  5. I think it's a great idea!! So much of this 'common sense' has been lost now, and a lot of people have no idea what they are looking at.
  6. No.. I believe he was left there for some one to pick up. if he was left to die- it probably would have been out in a paddock- or at a tip or something .. not alongside a road ..and with his pillow to make sure he stayed there.
  7. My take on it is that theoretical knowledge is excellent to have ..and will help you in your assessments and knowing what makes dogs tick but it can not give you the experience of human/dog body language and communication - the people skills which are vitally important when you are working with dogs and owners ... or even the behaviour problems from a human POV. AS a professional, you will primarily be educating owners - so need to be as good as, or better , in assessing and ironing out their behaviours ;)
  8. Not psychic .. just have noses/ears which work very efficiently! Happens here as well
  9. ..and it worked - the dog found a home . So - the next person to leave a dog on the side of a road will also think their dog will find a new home .... Leaving the little guy on his pillow ...there's a story in this somewhere - I guess someone knows how he came to be there.
  10. Chewy - contact pebbles .. that's sort of her stamping ground I think... poor pup.
  11. Gayle - I agree . There are excesses in many features.
  12. perhaps the same way a police dog - often a GSD - does . Or how my dogs do when they hunt feral cats ..they track them right to whatever tree they're in , and Hamlet stands up ,paws on trunk, like a coonhound ;) ( he's a koolie x spaniel)
  13. And you'd be guessing wrong. I just enjoy seeing dogs who look fit & without excess skin folds on parts of the body . I understand well the 'cone ' effect of facial/neck wrinkles and pendulous ears in scenthounds ..
  14. These dogs just look so good - none of that horrible wrinkly skin , legs with which to move well ...
  15. The hound has shown the ability to identify and hold the line as a member of a pack. The dog has to not dash forward..but to keep with the pack, under direction of the hunt master /kennel master* The hound has given tongue at, and only at appropriate moments. The dog only vocalises when it is appropriate - eg: when it finally gets onto a strong scent , or prey is located..* The hound has shown the ability to hunt over country for at least two hours. Dog needs to be reasonably fit that's my interpretation, anyway edit to remove 'stuff'
  16. Ones I've seen it's just that they are hot- most whelping boxes are made to protect/keep warm the precious puppies ..who cannot thermoregulate and who need to be nice & warm . Mum however , snuggled up with them, can get a bit uncomfortably warm
  17. I actually love poodly coats like what your girl has now ! Puppy clip or similar looks nice to me I hope your new babies will have happy and interesting homes soon .
  18. No offence meant at all.. just that I wasn't aware you had good measures in place .... Your beautiful girl and all those gorgeous little babies will charm everyone, I'm sure!
  19. It's the disease factor I am concerned about ... with such young babies ...
  20. Sorry about your Grandfather ..and taking those photos was a lovely thing - they look very happy dogs
  21. definitely no strangers anywhere on the same floor/ surface as puppies! No picking up, either.... And your girl looks lovely!! :)
  22. can't you brush/comb her as normal every day? Clip out the worst mats with scissors if they are causing her discomfort? Who cares what she looks like at present?
  23. I was going to suggest a vet visit... diarrhoea is a very easy way for pups to dehydrate ....
