  1. If the collar`is an electronic anti bark collar .. there is no training involved that I know of .. One just fits the collar snugly onto the dog .I use one here ..and it has worked well If the collar is an e collar with a remote control, then yes, there needs to be some training done on how to use it safely. These collars are a legitimate tool, but there are cases where they would be unsuitable - dogs barking from anxiety, for example. What other methods has your sister used to try and stop the nuisance barking? If she is upset at the use of an anti bark collar, then this may be a good time to look at her options...
  2. During the day, there is less likelihood of a cat attack..as cats are mostly nocturnal by choice. ..so leave him in the yard by all means ..with plenty to chew/do.
  3. I suggest leaving your dog indoors or in a run at night . If he is in the habit of attacking cats .. then he is at great risk of losing an eye to a cat scratch! Also , left outdoors and being fond of biting cats, he may get more skilled, and you will be picking up bodies, not live cats. This is not a good habit to teach... even though cats should be indoors or otherwise kept safe .
  4. ..yep, a soft plastic basket muzzle .. not the cheaper ones though! they are hard and narrow. Ones made in Italy are much better quality and comfort...they have a leather strap, too with a buckle.... not a webbing/synthetic strap
  5. Ours get like that often when there's dust .
  6. lavender girl.. your little boy had/has separation anxiety? That is not quite the same as biting someone . I too, am hoping for a good outcome , trust me...I have given the person ideas now it's their decision.
  7. I understand trying to manage the fights and you can only work with what you have .I don't envy you . Hope the new Year brings harmony!
  8. I have suggested things .. it is not my decision to make .This sort of dog should definitely NOT have been put straight into this household.
  9. It now sounds as if she was stirred up by teh others barking .. and ran in & nipped. took a broom to get her away tho. Just sounds a bad choice... and why i suggested she get a fostered dog
  10. IMO dogs anywhere near an unfenced road should never be off leash.
  11. Ran away down the street yesterday , bit the plumber this morning. Will probably be returned to the pound soon. and I am not going to say to her "I told you so" ..but I did warn her that a young active dog, at the pound , reason unknown, was not a good idea.... I guess she'll be PTS now?
  12. Please don't 'fiddle' with this problem .. often dogs kept separate will show more aggression/anxiety when they do meet ...and it is hard to keep dogs separate when they have been together 7 years.Unfortunately , we can't see/hear your dogs , so our suggestions are just based on what we get from your writing, and experience ..not looking at your dogs behaving . I advise a professional consultation - don't know what's what in your part of teh world, but Jane Harper has been mentioned lots on D O L . A professional can assess both dogs- and the environment/management at home... and then work with you on things to help. Your husband being on Holiday may or may not help .. but a good professional is still my suggestion.
  13. I would perhaps change vets? Did she have any blood tests or anything done?
  14. I think shi/jack too .. not much malt that I can see ..but she used to have a pair`of malts , & wants there to be malt ;) House renovations and a basically untrained ratbag .... glad it's her!
  15. meet Maggie. supposedly a maltX rescue from a country pound..around 12 mths old ,small, never been an inside dog ..very active and boisterous. *shakes head* Very cute ... but she is causing a few headaches, apparently ;) The Dachsie has a wrestling buddy, the old lady boxer is not too worried .
  16. Oh.. in the meantime, why not raise your dog's bowls by using a low platform/table/brick or something, so she does not have to bend at that angle - it may make her more comfortable for now
  17. if that's the case, there should be very many stumbling sore dogs around . That comment doesn't sound terribly reassuring. Did he do any manipulations/treatments? tell you where ,or what the injury was?
  18. Here's hoping everything heals well, and that you can take her home Thinking of you.
