I'd let it happen gradually , if possible..so it becomes Jazz's 'choice' .... Make your room a bit unpleasant/unwelcoming .... and make your daughter's room the BEST spot to be ..where the treats are , where her favourite blanket is (even if it is your bedspread), and explain to your daughter that Jazz needs time and gentleness .. to the effect that Jazz's heart hurts when she is away from you ..like your daughter's heart hurts not having the puppy....

I was told to not feed kibble/feed kibble .. to not soak food/soak food..feed in an elevated bowl/don't elevate bowl .... I fed my boy (deerhound X) a kibble which didn't swell when wet, and raw, and bones, and fruit . I did have his bowl a bit elevated . I always rested him before & after feeding (at least an hour) I watched his water intake .. and at age 7 1/2 he died from bloat/torsion after stealing a few bits of kibble from another dog .. not even a meal ..and I didn't even think of him bloating after that little food.... but it wasn't long before I was on the phone to the vet... and a couple hours later, I had to send him over the bridge. There are folks here who are very experienced:) they will give you the up-to-date- info .

A`screw tail is just how it sounds.. the tailbone is screwed around into a tight spiral/knot shape . These can sometimes need extra care .

..good idea, for a healthy dog , but a body like Pearl's needs quality food .

She is looking better , with your help I will suggest that some of the skin thickening and baldness /infection may well have come from her rubbing her poor itchy back/bum on wood etc where she was living ..the fleas itched, she scratched, then that itched and was sore, so she scratched again....and over time, with continued irritation etc, the skin thickens up I used to have a terrier who would rub her back on the chair rungs when she was at all itchy ....in the same areas as Pearl. The vet didn't give you any cream? Malaseb can be very drying ....which may make the skin crack ...cracks are to be avoided, as that's where infection can start . Bullbreedlover has given you some very helpful suggestions ..and the BEST quality food you can afford is what this girl needs ..her poor body/immune system needs TLC .. so good food, rest and love will help get her back on track to being happy and comfortable . ......I hope you have her registered under your name ...just in case ..

I think a thorough vet check is needed..maybe draw attention to it at the vets ?

Naah.. I'd just be a cat lady , I think....

supercoat is not a wonderful food ... roo is good, but very, very lean , and she needs some fats/oils- both to help build her up, and to nourish the skin. "heats up the blood" .... "diet has not much effect on dermatitis " ... is there perhaps another vet who does know how important diet can be in skin nourishment and allergies? Why is she getting rice/pasta? How many meals a day does she get?

It is so interesting to me ..out here in the scrub, and away from the city and subbubs now. yes, I've had dogs in the city, and yes, I have trained dogs for many years ..... but, if/when I move into the city again , I have decided to not have a dog . The stories told on here, and the myriad of things to consider nowdays re the restrictions on dog freedoms/access make it seem not a desirable thing , and in the 'too hard' basket for this old chook. to all of you bringing a new pup into your homes , and negotiating all the obstacles !

Pearl has a lovely face Diet does matter with skin .. skin /coat condition reflects what is being eaten. there are many on here who have had dogs with severe skin issues ..and have posted about diet changes. I'm sure they'll be along - perhaps change post title to "diet for skin problems query" or something? What kibble is she on? Some are better than others. My suggestion for her, to help her whole system pick up (and so improve skin ) would be , if it's convenient, to gradually put her onto more raw food . Raw meat /bone, fish, and a small amount of fruit/veg, with egg and oils ..... there is a whole thread on raw feeding HERE I hope you get some suggestions you can use, and I also hope to see more pics of this girl

I think they can have mange..and leptospirosis ..apart from that, I don't know much , sorry...

Phone a vet maybe and ask? poor hedgehog, even tho they're feral... they're very cute .
