to some, they are , and to others they are still 'possessions' and valued .Recently I lost my old chookie mate of around 12 years. She was very much part of the family . When my PET duck was killed by next door's dog , I was devastated....Frances Duck had been my companion for quite a few years .....

and don't 'give in' ;)

From what I've seen, sniffer dogs etc are absolutely toy/ball crazy!! that becomes their 'raison d'etre' and , as they ONLY get it after 'working' it keeps a high value and is an almost failproof way of getting co operation.

What is the body language when barking? Any video/photos/description.That may well decide which way you need to go re: working at the problem.

Your study then is confusing ..if the dogs are not used to being handled/treated ...
-
yes, you would possibly had other suggestions if you had stated the pup is in an apartment ! My suggestion would be a dog toilet using artificial turf...same 'feel' as grass, and may trigger a toilet respons.

marine carpet is wonderful stuff ! Doesn't disintegrate..is good for little feet/legs , easily hosed/and dries fast :)

:) Puppies sleep in dirt/on grass/on cool paving ..... enjoy it .

No surprise there ;) If I rigged up something whereby , at random intervals , you had your hair pulled , and I offered you a treat ... I would presume you also would not have the same happy, expectant look that you would have if I had called you by name , or used a clicker . Presumably there are all sorts of legalities/considerations with doing 'informal' and un sanctioned experiments at a premises not your own, and using subjects (dogs) who are also not your own. My advice? Don't go ahead. Clients who have dogs at that kennel may not be amused if their dog responds in a previously unseen manner to an e collar after your 'experiment' , or if a dog is adversely affected ! How do you explain it to the owners?

Times she gets fed Her normal toilet routine commands.

Dog Proof and Cattle proof are definitely not the same thing! Cattle will rub on posts, get hooked in mesh, rub heads on mesh , and just LEAN .....

How old is your pup? She is possibly just not hungry! Or, she knows what is yummy and good for her ,,brown rice and veges are not really what a growing pup needs ..they are fillers and full of fibre . Maybe try just the mince and puppy kibble , and see if that makes a difference :) Chicken necks/sardines have much more nutrients than rice/veges.

:) :) Good news.. now to stop him hooning!! :p

LEGALLY the neighbour should not shoot the dog on its property . That will not stop the neighbour if he is angry enough........ they really do need to have a secure smaller area for the dog when they cannot watch it,,

Dog-owner , I am very sorry your dogs did not receive the instant death they should have , if shot. :( That must have been very hard for you to discover...and I would have been devastated. I live in the bush, and have both had a dog shot, and shot a roaming dog. Both incidences are soul destroying. My kelpie, Jack was 12 years old, almost blind, toothless and deaf. He followed our tyre scent down to a neighbour's house...where he had been before ... and they shot him and threw his body on their tip. They had seen him on plenty of occasions ..... We were not terribly forgiving. they had no stock anywhere close ... The dog we shot was a pig dog ...and we tried for a couple of hours to catch him, using food, and our own dogs - he would not be caught next morning his owner came looking ..we were honest, and we all cried together - he was able to take his boy's body home for burial ... It is never ever a nice thing, but when the poor dog does not die immediately, that is just cruel and uneccessary

How sad. he sounds far too much for most folks to handle . I don't envy your decision making.

Running an in season bitch and dog together is a very risky practice ...and one not to be recommended - by me, anyhow. It's not fair on either of them, really , and stressful for you, so why bother? behind good wire, or in solid rooms is much easier :) -
