I knew one of these..bought on the assumption he would be a noisy, alert watchdog like the rest of his family ...he was an affable couch potato LOL ( but dog aggressive ), Gorgeous boy ... absolutely kid-proof, too. One in a million.

One important thing ..> This may involve a long wait - finding the dog who 'fits' , and building up your knowledge base /confidence so that you will be ready ! and that should have raised a red flag !! A breed which someone said is hyperactive is NOT ideally for a first-timer. Beagle puppies are way tooo cute !! They are clowns They are independent ( recall may not happen in some cases) they are not the easiest to train they make a loud noise they sniff ..a LOT they are very keen to be doing stuff NONE of the dogs you get will be able to go biking any distance for about 12 months ..growing young bones need care . Great news that you're going to shows to see dogs ! Reading about them is one thing ...seeing them is another. Another thing ..do you have friends who take dogs to obedience classes, or dog parks ? I strongly recommend you regularly visit both of these as well , so you can watch different dog breeds/ages in action. If you are a first timer ... I would NOT recommend a Cattle Dog . They are agile,loyal, strong, wonderfully smart/trainable and seek a lot of input from experienced leaders. .They are originally bred to 'nip'/bite..and herd. this instinct can often come out around quick movements etc ..such as when kids are running and playing . Inexperienced owners may not see what's happening , and these dogs are built like a tank! I cannot speak of your other choice ..I don't know them at all .

Good plan ...you will have lots of fun with these..and also tailor them to your use

Portugese water dog isn't listed ..but the Beagle & Cattle Dog are . What attracted you to these dogs, as they are all so very different ? All are 'working' , active breeds , too. Info on them both Aust Cattle Dog . Beagle

She may not be eating because she has an upset tummy .. Unless you see what is happening, you won't know if she has diarrhoea or something. The sooner you know, the sooner she can get something to help her

Aahh..if Ellie is deaf and vision impaired, try using a signature scent either a unique treat, or drop of vanilla, she will scent this and know it's you, and where you are! Sit with her, let her associate a vanilla scent with you feeding/stroking/loving her...then, when she smells this approaching, it means happy

There's another LIVE on at 4 pm I think ...try then on FB . Some of the dogs are "What ? You want me to jump WHERE? " ..Love the different ways they have uf refusing. from polite and dignified , to the downright spectacular!

Welcome You are doing a good job for Ellie. She's lucky to have you by her for her final years. I think you've answered your own questions pretty much. She may well be a confused old blind dog. When she's on a walk..does she look at things more than sniff? When you approach her..perhaps don't put out your hand ..the shadows/shapes she sees are perhaps causing her to react the way she does. Does she hear OK? Talk to her when you approach, & make sure she has time to sniff that it's you before reaching out. Always approach from the side..not over her head , too. if she doesn't hear too well, and then sees movement/a hand/shadows.. instinct is to duck. Call her, or make a loud noise/whistle behind her when she's not looking. See how she reacts. has she had a vet check? That might be a good idea ....just to make sure things are working OK The vet can do an eye check for cataracts & some other things too . If you can ..post a pic of the dear old girl ..

..and as Dogsfevr mentioned ..is he on Main, or Limited register ? Main..........you can do what you like with the animal, show, breed etc.. Limited.......no breeding or showing but you can do obedience and other similar activities.
