  1. I'd be tempted to really up mum's protein/liquid etc ..and do some breast massages on one or two rear ones ..letting puppy suck whenever ..so she can provide him with the best food of all at the moment....
  2. R I P sarge ... what an awful way to end a life. Poor husky 'status symbol', having nothing worthwhile to do but get aggro . I hope there is evidence to prove the husky did it, and I hope the owners do not get off lightly. Sorry, Rozzie.
  3. Thanks for the update :) Hope all goes well with her now she's had her op .
  4. Hi Any reason the pup can not be outside? Crate training is just that - training..and it takes some time to accustom a pup to seeing a crate as 'home' and to spend time in there. if you really have to leave pup indoors for hours ..you will need a puppy pen , where pup can play safely, and toilet in a specified area. IMO , crating a pup for hours is inadvisable for many reasons, especially developmentally , and also for toilet training . You can not expect a baby puppy to hold for hours .... and once they start toileting 'in bed' that is a very verty hard habit to untrain ..and just not fair. have a read of THIS THREAD it has good discussion, and I have put some links in.
  5. Angel3 .. These descriptions of fever, a limp , the discomfort/pain response of his groaning, etc. doesn't sound to me as if it was in response to a scare.... Good idea , to check the spine for irregularities . :) Owey .. I really think we need cute Bailey photos now !! :) :) Good to hear that your kids are reacting well, and having fun.
  6. My wish, should I be unable to care for them for whatever reason, is that my animals be gently euth'd .
  7. that is what it sounds like to me as well... I love the first one !
  8. Locks, cameras, locked and roofed pen for the dog ..definitely have him sleep indoors ....that's all I can think of, sorry. Hope all will be well.
  9. So, how socialised is this little one? has she been walked at all around streets/parks/shops etc? does she enjoy a couple of good races around the yard doing zoomies/playing fetch each day :) ? Bet she does! How is her temperament after you do your daily bit of obedience training ?is it more settled than before? Where does she sit in the car when travelling ? This is also another thing to consider when baby comes home ..and to discuss with whatever professional you choose. That's not a bad plan.. but the use of a solid barrier like a baby gate will be much more sure :) pup also needs to look at /smell/hear all the new stuff ... same as baby's blanket/nappy etc before baby comes home ... keeping her well away from sights/sounds/smells is stopping her investigating safely, and then taking in all this new information ...and there is less shock for her when it all happens , IMO.
  10. not a bad plan ..however most vets are much better at physical diagnoses than temperament ones ...and some vets will recommend you try so & so franchise that they deal with have you though of putting up some fencing so dog can be safely out in the yard alone? She really NEEDS to be outside and experiencing sounds/scents and just relaxing . What plans are in place when you need to be in hospital? who will be home with her when your OH is with you for a long period ..and when baby comes home .. you will have even less time/inclination to be with puppy doing toilet training/socialising ... getting behaviour help now will pay great dividends !! :) Hope all goes well with her spey recovery.
  11. Welcome. Ok... No playing around with this little one...I'm glad you came looking for advice :) there are way too many things in the mix here - a teen pup, an advanced pregnancy, prospect of big changes, owners working, tension in the air ... I suggest asking on here for a recommendation for a GOOD and reputable trainer/behaviourist who you can enlist to help you. Once a dog has growled and drawn blood ..that is a case for experienced and professional help. No, it isn't cheap ... then again... what price on safety and trust?
  12. or has caught a shadowy glimpse of something scary ..there are other reasons... and yes, she may have been frightened by a broom or something ..one may have fallen .. or there may have been a loud noise or something as an object was above her ..just suggesting that your thinking may be correct, or there may well be other reasons. Don't dwell on it, or tread carefully around her - that will maybe increase any concerns she has - just go on as normal ...and if there is an increase in the behaviour ..then get her checked out . :)
  13. :) That's encouraging news - it must indeed be great to see him happier !!
  14. and is that why most of ours would kill us to get a peanut butter sandwich ? :p Aside from peanut butter sandwiches , Our pack def. prefer raw and as untouched as possible - luckily we can mostly provide that with fresh killed ferals and mutton offcuts .
  15. Mmmm...just like a chicken.......but cruncheeee :)
  16. :) this why I always make sure to include some sort of 'cleaning brush' - skin with fur/hair attached ... hooves/claws also go down a treat .
  17. ..but IMO as dogs/cats do not eat the stomach contents ..this doesn't benefit them when given whole carcasses of,say ,rabbit about all that's left is the little stomach etc many years ago, in lean times when we used to feed the stomach and intestines of sheep butchered for our use, to dogs..they had to be washed well , or the dogs would not touch them ..or any other bits where stomach contents had been spilled .
  18. apologies :p I have ,however assisted at/seen many many performed , mostly without the 'extras' ..and have seen just how easy the op is on most ...as there is no intrusion into the abdominal cavity ...
  19. ANY dog needs more than 'a walk' to leave them satisfied and relaxed :) ("tired") luckily the 'more' is not hard to find - it is merely a 'job' to do ,and education/training , plus interactive toys ,and things like N I LI F . These things work the dog's brain continually and make them more likely to chill happily.
  20. :) Glad to see more using this idea... I've done it quite a few times ..and it has been soo useful!
  21. poor little guy ... hope the vet takes things seriously, and does the tests you ask for :)
