Injuries Caused by Pets Increasing in Australian Homes. ABC News 14/3/24
persephone replied to Deeds's topic in In The News
So many people just do not treat dogs with the respect deserved of something with its own mind and very sharp teeth! T- when is your book coming out? In all my years around animals there have only been a few noteworthy injuries - a decent concussion after being accidentally headbutted by a labrador - a deep puncture wound to the ball of my thumb- trying to break up a dog fight in kennels - A bite to one calf from an absolute biatch of a kelpie named 'cuddles' by her owner, but known for sneak attacks on anyone working with sheep in the yards. It put me down on the ground very quickly - but there was no punctures, just a massive deep bruise and a very stiff muscle. Oh - one lucky escape once when training dogs at a community farm, I was mounted by an in-season heifer! No great damage done there. -

Thinking of you... what a tough day for you. Go chase those birds, boy !! -
Once, in a previous life, a client at the vets where I worked had THE most wonderful little chi - who was a long haired black & white & looked liked a mini border collie he was one of the nicest , most even tempered of dogs - and was sturdy and with none of the bulbous head/bug eye traits . I had many plans to kidnap him ;)

Hmmmm. Whilst unscrupulous piggers are everywhere, this would be sad for those who do the job properly . Pigs screaming for their lives - yes, they are being held by dogs ..a good pig dog will hang onto an ear - out of harm's way .A couple of our Koolies used to do this , years ago - they were very good. A pig held in this manner will squeal - hell my pet pigs would squeal the place down for much more minor hurts!! A legal and acceptable way of getting rid of pigs is trapping them , then shooting en masse. I HATE this. I have seen pigs squashed, sows aborting due to stress, and pigs injuring themselves- let alone when the culler comes to shoot what is in the trap - and they all have to see and hear what's happening

When is it time for the rainbow bridge.
persephone replied to fiveplusone's topic in Palliative Care Forum
We have multiple dogs here- mostly working Koolies. They are born here and die here. They age - they get wobbly/deaf and sometimes blind. They get lumps and bumps ...They are always sent off before they become too dependent , before they lose their dignity . My old Mitchell many years ago was getting on in years - he was covered in small growths and was very wobbly .Eating well, had no mind/brain problems , still sparked up if someone said Rabbits...then he started becoming faecally incontinent. This made him upset - pooing when asleep or just when walking along - he would get very embarrassed as if he'd done something wrong. I decided then it was time - while he was on no meds, while he was still mostly happy and alert, when memories would be primarily happy ones. His last minute was tailwags, and thoughts of rabbits ...I felt no guilt - just relief that he would be spared suffering /inabilities/indignities. That's just my take on it - I don't believe in 'keeping them going ' We currently have a 14 y.o who is almost deaf, and a bit wobbly .She will still bark at 'whatever' , fight off a youngster if she has food , and get her nose working when I hide cat bikkies for her . She coughs a bit , and had some trouble in the heat , but is certainly still very able . Not ready anytime soon for the bridge You and your dog - that is your relationship and care model -

Council in Northern Italy will track down dog poo source using DNA
persephone replied to Redsonic's topic in In The News
That will be interesting! It might scare some folks enough that they start to pick up sooner rather than later, before the DNA testing comes into force ! -
