  1. :) baby puppies often need to toilet much more often that ever hour and a half .(.they do not read the articles :p) Puppies explore their world with mouth/tongue ..so need many different textures to chew ..big bones/ tough fabric ..all sorts of things. Kongs are usually not, IMO enjoyed by my puppies at all...they prefer toilet rolls, and apples and bones :) Play needs to be on grass /carpet/tiles /sand ..once again pup needs to experience all sorts of textures via its pads/body/tongue. remember, baby puppies are living and changing .. some nights, depending on food/fluid intake/exercise , night time disturbance- they may sleep all thru. Other nights, they may need to toilet a few times .... Regimentation looks great on paper I agree with a nice wind down time before bed..like with kids :) last drink, toilet, relax..then to bed. make sure you actually 'crate train' puppy ..don't expect to just lock him in and have peace That is not fair on pup. do a search on D O L for "Crate Games" :) Hope this is a help :)
  2. LOL at your conversations with sagelight :p sliders are fantastic fun , BTW. the iris look lovely... two clicks with SL and no, no sagelight in apostlebirds.
  3. Haven't checked back in here for a while.... :) there are certainly some talented folks on D O L . Must admit to LOVING the backgrounds- colours/shapes/contrast/bokeh ....and perhaps on occasion paying more attention to them than subjects here are a pair of apostlebirds .. canon eos350 1/320 f 6.3 ISO 400
  4. any particular reason to post this?
  5. Can anybody help a first time breeder with a sick 5 day old puppy in dubbo? 5 day old mini bully puppy that has been chilled.Puppy has been to the vet and sent home dehydrated. he doesn't know how to hydrate under the skin or tube feed but I suspect puppy's digestion is at a standstill right now..i have him calling his vet again but puppy is very ill and he is hours away from here.Is there an experienced breeder anywhere near him that could give him some hands on help please?
  6. Post in health, and maybe breeders? poor little baby -
  7. I can well understand how folks new to the world of buying a purebred dog get confused as to pedigree and registration, etc. It must be very tricky and catch a lot of unwary owners. :/
  8. I notice you only mention 'deck' , not 'yard'. is there a yard for the dog to use , or does he only have access to the deck?
  9. I hope your old boy gets some relief for his twilight time :)
  10. So..what is pup's routine? How much walking/training time is there each day? What is there in the yard to entertain him? sand pit for digging? tug toys? treatballs etc filled with his food?cardboard cartons to wreck? What is your routine when you leave him/return? of course not :) we are mere humans:P Remember- dogs can smell/hear things we can't !
  11. It's a long way away ..but I have sent the link :) Thanks. She looks lovely!!
  12. Was just speaking with a lady who lives at Younghusband, SA. their 11 y o son is looking for a pup .. they currently have a 12 yo kooliex. They live on acreage ..and I don't know anymore - she sounded very keen, and pleasant.
  13. ..and , guess what - it can often be neither of the scenarios you mentioned! tiny baby puppies hump/thrust even before they have the ability to run. It's learning/a reaction to excitement /instinct. A lot of adolescents start when they are excited when playing, etc ...and if their owners continue to laugh & joke and let them do it - it becomes a bad habit. The GSD may well be a dominant personality ..hopefully one day he does not try & assert himself to the wrong dog!
  14. Fantastic!! What a lucky dog being allowed to do stuff like that :)
  15. :) ..I know .. .you really just did it for doggie comfort, didn't you ? LOL
  16. :) if only it were that simple :p Often pups turn out to have their very own looks ..and they may not be their father's ! There is no guarantee pups will turn out looking like him .... Breeding is not a simple thing at all......... Looking forward to more pics of your boy! Oh..and he is only your first dog- let him teach you about dogs - use him as a stepping stone , follow his breed , and one day, perhaps, you will find a good solid gene poll that you have studied , and want to breed ethically from. :)
  17. Ahhh.. you have answered your own query - ..and as you are aware of BYB's - now is a good time to step away from any more associating with them I'm sure you will be responsible and do the best for your gorgeous boy ..ie: desex and enjoy without extra hassle :D :D .
  18. I had to laugh yesterday - a 7 mth old pup we have , who I helped deliver, fed, cuddled, taught tricks to , introduced to collar/chain/vehicle travel.. My brother has taken her with him a very few times ..yesterday she was with me - he gives one whistle ...and she's off - no looking back ..100 km/h! :D I do like it when dogs make their own decisions as to who belongs with who :p
  19. Oh..and just something I noticed - I hope the chain collar is not left on him at all times they do sometimes get caught up on something , and dogs can strangle themselves.
