  1. It was something a bit different, I thought...he can look sweet sometimes :) here is a play edit :p
  2. For my dog , who was a 40 kg dog , he just had 1 or 2 of those bone shaped biscuits one buys..... What did Snowy chew when he was teething to help loosen his teeth ? often I have found teeth that are a bit slow can be loosened by extra bones not 'crunch & swallow' bones ..rather, 'lie & chew for 20 minute' bones :) Dogs love this ... it helps release endorphins , which make them feel good :)
  3. I had to go back for another look! :)
  4. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17.600000381469727px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247); ">if YOU stress, so will your dog. Simple. If YOU are uncomfortable /scared /acting different ..this is what HE will feel ..and so, yes, he may be uncomfortable. Millions of dogs have castrations at the vets ... most do not then hate going .... there are ways to help, if that DOES happen , though. Removing testicles, of course removes the source of testosterone ..and so has some effect on later sexually related behaviours. Dogs think and react differently to people. remember he is a DOG , a fluffy ,cute, special DOG ..not a little person who works stuff out like we do, has the same dietary needs as we do , or who will hold it against you when he is castrated . :)
  5. I feed him chicken liver at the size of "50 cent coin" twice daily. Is that a lot? I mean, I mix it together with the meal. Where did you get your dog food recipe ? Chicken liver is probably best fed with other offal ...and not every day . How much rice /veg does he get compared to meat? What does he get to chew? One of my dogs used to vomit very early morning ..just because his tummy was empty ... so, after reading on D O L , I think, he had a biscuit for supper ..no more vomit :) he most certainly had no sensitive stomach ..and was fed anything & everything - lots of bones, fresh meat, commercial dog food, fruit, eggs ....
  6. No one is saying that a behaviourist can 'fix' it...or that this is the route you should take ... What a behaviourist will do is make an educated assessment , and then you have information on which to act, and make whatever decision you feel is responsible.
  7. Not a bad idea for folks who have oops /Xbred litters either ...
  8. How wonderful!! I just adore large mature trees ..and some of the 'old plants like your Acanthus clump :) That chimney and the building are just divine.... I am thinking of B/w photos..... Some say poplars are a pain..but they make such a wonderful green screen /boundary :) I do like that curving rose bed ..and think your clumping daisies etc are a great idea :) Pink blossom always yells "Spring", doesn't it ? Thank you - you have a beautiful spot!!!
  9. agree here- if you know the person took your dog - and depending on contract wording .. then your valuable dog is not just missing..it is stolen. ANYONE can post in the LOST & FOUND forum.... CLICK HERE
  10. please just keep dogs separated. A muzzle will NOT STOP the behaviour ..it will NOT stop any display of body language from either dog, or the feelings which come from the two dogs being in each other's presence what it MAY do is cause an escalation of whatever Spud is feeling .... frustration / defensive aggression , whatever ..as he may well feel trapped/restricted with a muzzle on. What exact muzzle is it? Can the dog open his mouth fully to pant and so keep cool ? Can the dog drink and bark comfortably? So many muzzles are not fitted correctly and can be dangerous
  11. :) Thanks ..unfortunately, being a quick snap..his face is not quite in focus ... but I do like all the roses and his cute expression .... .
  12. Two names which came up in a search - Jane Harper http://www.dogsontrack.com.au/ Craig Murray http://dogschool.com.au/ Please contact someone today ..and start the process . best of luck with it all...
  13. Not pleasant for anyone..including Spud. *breathe.* let us know where you are situated , and someone can hopefully recommend you a professional who can assess the situation properly . Online advice from experienced folks is fine, BUT as we can not see body language, hear sounds, experience the family dynamic .. it is tricky at best ... No informed and rational decision can be made until this is done, IMO meanwhile..I would strongly advise these two be kept totally apart . .... it will be less stressful and safer all round. As you can see, there is the possibility of disaster here- two young adults .... powerful dogs, and one who is apparently being the aggressor. Professional help will be invaluable ....
  14. :) reminds me of my little dachsieXterrier , many years ago .. she LOVED working sheep ..and was pretty useful in the yards/trucks. Of course, with legs 2 inches long, she couldn't jump on their backs..but in a packed yard , when put onto the expanse of woolly surface...off she'd go , to the ones blocking the flow ..and, as well as barking in their ear , she would dig at their necks ..... she would then fall thru the gaps and run back underneath ....... her idea of heaven . In the paddock was always tricky ..I couldn't see her in the grass to control her !! :)
  15. That is excellent :) A good backing dog is worth their weight in Schmakos!!
  16. What does your vet say? He's the one who knows your dog's state of health best ..and as the dog is quite old , there may be other considerations?
  17. That's not spoiling a pup .... it's like buying a toddler human lots of different books and toys which teach hand eye co- ordination & stuff. It is an essential part of an enriched life.
  18. There are catahoulas in QLD :) They look fantastic!! . I would still consider it a prey drive possibility ... at first thought .... any video? I would love to see it, and her! Funny you say about the quiet voice.. In my previous life training dogs ..dogs who were scatty and /or pre occupied would go into the whisper program ..... we would be whispering praise/cues for food ..everything, for a while , until they paid close attention most of the time. It worked a treat .
  19. It's not prey drive, Ams? I have seen that many times ..utter fixation for extended periods ..and then ,one day ,it escalates.
  20. :) we have to tread a fine line with our working dogs ..'eye' is essential , but too much is a damn nuisance! A good nuisance ..but... We had one little bitch who would just follow the poultry around for hours ..eyeing them . She also tried to eye stumpytail lizards ..but of course they did not respond by keeping still... she also used to try with old Sally Horse ..and that was a sight! Weasel was about 12 kg ..and she would crouch down, staring intently ..and move backwards, but never break eye contact... Weasel was never a really good worker because of her too strong 'eye' .
