  1. He is on anti-inflamms/painkillers, isn't he ? IMO, having much less pain would be making him feel much more comfortable . so maybe taking it slow, so as not to possibly cause damage ..just cos he may not be feeling pain, doesn't mean there's no problem ... HOPING it was a temporary thing ..bu thinking there may still be something niggling . :) glad he is feeling better , anyway !!!
  2. as you cannot tell what this person was thinking ... not sure how you know this. If fear is strong enough ..one innate reaction is self defence , using whatever comes to hand . It may not be 'correct'/acceptable/legal but it happens ..exactly the same instinct as a reactive dog ..
  3. I don't really understand the rationale behind posts like this ... , sorry. Blackdogs- that would have been scary - glad you kept your cool, and have a responsive little dog :) There are so many people now who just do not have positive experiences with dogs ..and who get very defensive /reactive
  4. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8453/8065334161_2079e8431d_b.jpg I am in love .................................. and what a lovely photo! :)
  5. OHHHHH , she is just so beautiful ,,,,,,and he is gorgeous!!!
  6. *nods* You know now , for next time :p :)
  7. Unfortunately, you did not share all the information .... if you had explained about the medications , in the first post etc .. you would probably have received different responses... I still don't think it is conscious ... when sleeping for long periods, kidneys produce much less urine.... when travelling, visiting or whatever..the slight excitement would keep muscles a bit tense . When she thinks she is safe in her bed at home ..she totally relaxes ... AS for the intermittent occurrences... try & remember what else was happening around that time ..what was th e difference in weather, etc?
  8. ...and , mallakoff we (I) need photos of these two !! Please? I had a staghound for around 8 years ..and I just love them :) Hope you find a vet who will consider this incontinence a hormonal problem, and that your girl is better very soon :)
  9. I really doubt your dog has any control over this ...and am wondering if you & your vet discussed spey incontinence ? read about it HERE Please don't punish her .... and yes, she looks 'guilty' because she remembers the loud voice and smack ..not neccessarily because of what she has done
  10. we just have the ol pink ones ..but modern varieties are just gorgeous! :)
  11. I am so hoping that maybe he was mishandled as a baby , and missed out on vital human contact /feeding protocol ...and that it can be fixed..but I am pessimistic ...and would hate things to settle ..only to return at adulthood. One thing I don't think has been mentioned ..is the TRIANGLE OF TEMPTATION ...LINK this does NOT involve touching dog, or bowl whilst eating..but gets the dog to acknowledge the provider of food ..and to link the two - plus not to eat until certain things happen ... Have a read....
  12. is the pup otherwise biddable/trainable and friendly /socialised?
  13. For 100 years Oleander trees have grown here ..and never has a child, pup, bird or sheep suffered . The aviary was under a tree..dogs sleep under a tree , and we were always taught to never ever touch/eat. They are one of the prettiest flowers ..and such a tough tree .. :)
  14. :) have a read of lilli's posts and see what sort of dogs she has ... ..then you might understand. They're not little fluffies.
  15. How to avoid? keep yourself indoors away from harm :) Puppies need to run and stretch and play and exercise their growing bodies/spirits ..Zoomies are FUN and neccessary:)
  16. Tazar ... with trying this & that ..and having so many opinions ..it is a confusing situation. pick a good veterinary behaviourist, who can test for physical and psychological problems , plus advise you/teach you management , etc ..and prescribe any medicines needed ...all in the one place , and with an experience worth its weight in gold :)
  17. r8chel - how did the phone call to the trainer lady go? Hope it was helpful.
  18. While I am glad there was some improvement , I still strongly suggest a VETERINARY BEHAVIOURIST to check everything , as it would be awful to spend a lot of time & love on this pup ,only to find that there is a problem with genetics, or something like a brain tumour ... It is worth remembering too , that by consulting the specialist, you are given the best and most effective handling 'tools' for this problem . IF the problem is something like total lack of respect due to being whelped like he was ..and having to compete for everything ..maybe because he was smaller .. then getting a specialist help would again , provide the best approach to management . Pup is getting bigger every day, too ..and a bite in the wrong spot could be very damaging This behaviour really does need examining .. both pup and owner ... and , unless testosterone levels were/are measured , there is no way to tell if it was/is part of the problem ..as an improvement in a few weeks/months could be due to the age , the extra training ...or a healing of a lesion or something ... No way would I recommend just a 'wait & see if it was the testosterone' approach ..for all sorts of reasons .
  19. :) Good update - I'm sure his owner will be VERY pleased to have him home.
