  1. How's the baby today, Skye2 ? posted at the time you were writing. hope she drinks something .. maybe soak some mince in a small amount of water ..just a half cup ..drain , and offer her the water? Milk? Tuna juice ? Nausea/vomiting is not good ...maybe she has something other than kennel cough? Did the vet check for anything caught in her throat ???
  2. Ohhh.. Your dad might be calling her .. it happens .
  3. yes! if she is coughing up mucus ..
  4. nic..take care .. sometimes everything seems to be hurtling towards us at 100 miles an hour ..and all we have to help is a feather .... breathe and know you're being wished well..
  5. You kicked an old man to the point of knocking him down?! Teenager at the time or not I find that as disgusting as belting the dog. Moreso .
  6. Nothing at all like benadryl . be VERY careful with dosage ...... does she really need it? for kennel cough ..the most important thing is to keep pup quiet and relaxed..to remove anything which will press on the area of the windpipe which is where the infection is (remove collars - no walks on lead ) and to remember some words of wisdom from my vet ... a decent case will take 3 weeks to clear with treatment , and 21 days without ;) as it is a virus .. AB's won't do much ....but some vets are cautious I guess . edit to add ... I always start with the mild ..and work up to the big guns ...
  7. I suggest lots of mowing /leaf blowing , banging and clattering around :)
  8. benadryl and manuka honey here too ... :)
  9. Unfortunately, by commenting/lecturing/pointing out a behaviour , the owner may then feel embarrassed and angry , and frustrated - "It's the dog's fault that person pulled me up, and how dare they tell me what to do !" and the dog's next hour or so could be quite uncomfortable Pick your battles.
  10. When you express the bitch's milk , does it look and feel normal ? Colour, 'stickiness' , ease of flow ,and thickness are all important indicators of what is happening ....mastitis can be picked up early if you know what is normal for your bitch :) Not sure of times .. I would suggest 2 hrs maximum - but remember , toileting the pups is just as important . if she is not attending to that regularly you may well end up with problems Is there any way you can leave her to be free to come & go? Just see if it makes a difference- setting her own schedule ?
  11. :) good to see a close up too! here's my morning 'smoko' (fresh picked ..the parrots left a few fruits )
  12. While a shock to you .. I don't think it classifies as 'abuse' . Old style training , for sure..and there are other ways ..but hardly abuse ,IMO , unless he was repeatedly belting her ... What was the dog's reaction when she got hit? You didn't mention it ..so I guess it wasn't dramatic .. I probably would have flinched ..and just walked on ..
  13. That IS a long time ..and , IMO not usual. Any of ours with pups are free to come & go as they want .. and they are normally only away for 10 mins or so , if that! When pups are around 3 weeks ..then absences are much longer ... is it perhaps too hot in the whelping box? has she been checked for mastitis- perhaps she's sore ... I suggest a vet check .... I also suggest not too much great exercise time outside ... her priority should still be her litter..... Is she normally an outside dog ? if she has been brought inside just to whelp ..maybe move the pups outside in a kennel ?
  14. and , it is not the same as a human bleeding 'period' at all... with dogs it is their peak time ..their fertile/ovulation time ... just to confuse your friend's boyfriend even more :p
  15. ..and the sweat from their pads, and the little marking urinations they need to do.....and the odd hairs which detach and fall, carrying scent .......and the wagging tail , swishing scent around ...
  16. would you be able to video a few behaviours? The excitement , the pacing/running in circles ... and the body language when barking?
  17. so ..you now have 4 shihtzus in a crate ??? be VERY VERY aware they may get agitated and fight
  18. nic B .. please don't try & kill it ... your nerves are frayed enough , and dealing with snakes is best done when cool calm and collected ..... there is too much at risk . Breathe , and just observe where it goes for now ...the more you try & side track it , the more defensive it will feel... Please be careful.
  19. I also think snake is just trying to come 'home' ..and would have been living there some time. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247);"> plus you guys have been away with your dad, etc .. and now you're back, snake is all confused/upset. RBB are one of my favourites, being so slow to defensive behaviour ......wish we had more of them instead of browns .. That said .. snakes & dogs & humans sharing a home is not good at all , and I so hope you can get some help without injury to anyone .).incl the RBB who has been keeping your property vermin free ) .
