In whose eyes? ;) I believe in rules , and also believe that speech/contact not be done just for the hell of it ..
-
That is my first thought as well , and I am no hot head . An owner who is apparently suffering some sort of mental problem?? Limited income Loves his dogs will find it very hard to attend assessments/training .. is finding it difficult to comply with the rules has a very large dog who is aggressive/reactive. Going to court can be stressful and expensive . Having to cope with a tragedy if/when the dog attacks/injures another dog , or a person.would be intolerable It needs to be weighed up ............. and if this person can not manage everything, then , yes, the dog can be gently PTS , instead of being taken away and impounded .
-
But it is . The owner has a large dog which is reacting to certain things in a manner dangerous. Clear as crystal. A similar scenario has been discussed on here many times . If council is involved, then that owner needs to follow rules. If the owner wishes to fight the classification, then he needs to pay good money to an GOOD professional and get an assessment.

No Muzzle will stop that instinctive reaction to fast-moving skateboards, or aggression to other dogs. . A muzzle will lessen damage caused when a dog does attack
-
that can only be decided by hiring the services and experience of a REPUTABLE and personally RECOMMENDED dog behaviour professional. people here will be quite happy to recommend you someone who is honest and known personally by folks here ....and who will have no rash promises of a gauranteed 'fix' to entice gullible people.
-
Of course it does :) A so-called 'dangerous' dog doesn't usally walk around frothing at the mouth , or even be hard to handle! This type of dog is dangerous because it will attack, or has attacked . Whether an attack takes 5 second ,or 10 minutes ..an attack can cause grave harm .

perhaps he likes the company during daylight hours ?

In Cesar's TV shows there are NUMEROUS warnings to "NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" This is done for very good reasons. Cesar has years of experience working around aggressive and strong dogs. he is aware of every movement and is quick and smart enough to then act ...he KNOWS an awful lot about how dogs' brains work. he has a backup of experienced staff on which to rely there is such a thing as editing ... what we see is the finished product. An owner who has had a dog turn out like your customer's is NOT a suitable person to apply the techniques . Why is this? IMO- Controlling a large aggressive dog requires an owner's complete attention, and strength . A dog may well gain courage from being in a pack ..and so react in a stronger manner . Walking 3 dogs ..if one lunges or attacks will probably lead to injury , and possibly death, to dogs or human .

Obedience Training Books Or Web Recommendations

Hi :) What has your dog done so far ? What is the daily routine like ...and what are you hoping to teach him/her? Are there any problem behaviours -
I have been lucky enough to meet a couple of those ..just lovely!

When Mum died ..her old dog(around 13 now) would yip all night , bang on doors , etc , wherever we put her .. she would often also toilet inside. It was very upsetting to see ... but eventually I got sick of it,(and a lack of sleep) and tied her up on the back porch ..with ample bedding , treats of a night ... and she has been fantastic now for months!! Not even toileting most of the time ..and she can if she need to there ..it's a long chain .she sleeps very soundly , and is happy as Larry! So, things we don't notice, are often at work...

Hamlet , who will be 9 soon .. still does :p he will raid the waste paper bin ..BUT he will also pick up things off the floor when asked , so I don't mind at all .It's such a useful trick to have ! :) :)

What fluffy toys of his own does he have? Kongs are so boring ... unless filled with food ... I would provide him with strong fluffy /soft toys ... make a big deal about playing with him using them ... LOOK HERE for ideas :) and TRAIN HIM TO 'SWAP" :) SWAP is fun, and makes life so much less stressful! it starts when pup is very young ... and is carrying something. have a treat ready ..take toy/insert treat immediately, say "Swap" Goooood boy! repeat, repeat, repeat .... Dog cannot eat treat and hang onto toy - simple ;)

O K ............... To me , It still sounds a very odd thing for council to be concerned with ....
-
This seems scary to me if this person really wants his money - just what may he do to obtain compliance from a dog?
-
?? Why would council have anything to do with where a vet clinic has scales? Sorry ..Scales in a waiting area is the sensible option, as many owners just pop in to weigh their dog , prior to worming, or to see if they need to change food amounts ..prior to booking a surgery - all sorts of reasons . AFAIK it is all done on lead though ... a lead does not increase weight by any amount that matters !
-
I am sorry It's hard when you aren't able to 'name the enemy' . I hope you at least get answers soon .

A very happy puppy!! What a great spot .
-
:) Good points! ..and a :) at the picture in my head !

ermmmm perhaps it is because they are all HUMANS ? Fallible and feeling humans...that's all. I CAN UNDERSTAND some of what he is feeling. .it's not difficult ..it is merely acknowledging/understanding another human's pain, whether they are criminal or not , victim or not ...very basic . ..and I am very proud of the years I spent in that profession! yep.
-
LOL You know part of the reason why ..it is why you posted .The pup plays as it would with another pup..bites/growls etc . AS the pup grows, and if this 'play' continues , there is a real risk of a decent bite ..and a stirred up dog.

raz- I'm thinking along the same lines as you. To those really confused by empathy .. there are good and honest DOLers who have lost their precious dogs thru accidents/mishaps etc. Do you think they should never be allowed to own another dog? Do you think they should be charged ? Do you not have a tiny inkling of how someone responsible for an animal feels when that animal dies under their care? I hope you never ever get that feeling of having something happen to an animal or person in your care . I really do.
