persephone replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
Has the dog been vet checked? Is she eating/drinking? It seems odd the breeder is not responding -
New Dog From Breeder.. Something Not Right......
persephone replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
What was this little girl's situation at the breeder's ? cage/shed/house? Was this dog shown/bred from, or just 'kept'? Have you taken her for a vet check ? This way you also get something on record . Could something have happened to during transprt? not a good start -

What Is The Most Annoying Thing Your Dogs Do?
persephone replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Hamlet barks ..when he runs .... outside or inside .... loud...... somewhere I zigged when I should have zagged .... and am now paying for it :p -
..he has to eat, right? Well, you make yummy dinner for him ..BUT he only gets it when you leave . Simple. He has hours in which to eat it ... If he won't eat ... he gets NO treats ,or anything else, until next morning when you go to work. No , he won't die. Yes, it may take him a couple of days .. No new habits won't suddenly appear Yes, he can be taught/shown different things :) Treats etc ..no 'surprises' they should be EARNED ... That way HE decides just how much loving and treating he gets each day!! ..It's all up to how he behaves :) :) have a read here LINK Not sure about the conversations either .. IMO sometimes this can just become 'white noise' and then when we DO want the pup to pay attention ..they just hear "blah blah blah "..... I tend to only talk to my dogs when they are needed, or when I ask them to do something , or am praising them ..so my addressing them is something to be listened to .(hopefully) ;)

I have a few ideas ... the fast moving objects outside, the vibration of the wheels on teh road, the change in air pressure inside the car , teh different sound of teh engine ..something is scaring him. Dogs should ideally be crated or attached securely on the back seat or rear compartment ... if he is happier 'hiding under a seat..then tether him on the floor ..so he cannot see out . If , heaven forbid, you have top brake suddenly etc ..a dog loose in a car can badly injure humans , as a missile, or itself. We wear seatbelts, and put kids in special seats - for that reason :)

I doubt a pup would use one ..honestly ... a paddling pool, a patch of damp sand he is allowed to use, plenty of shade and air circulation .... :) if it is very hot , and you need cooling for a few hours .. A 3 litre juice/water plastic bottle filled and frozen for 24 hrs , then wrapped snugly in one layer of towel or the sleeve of a woollen jumper , and tied in a pillowcase ..is a great puppy cooler :) Pup needs to learn what it is/does though . Alternatively ..those large flat solid plastic esky cooler things are great , too. Make sure though ther eis just water in them ..and always wrap in something. They don't last all that long, but are cheap and re useable :)

yes.. if Spud was not taught to enjoy time alone, away from you when a baby ..then of course he will object to you leaving :)

Ok..so yes, 10 is getting on for a large dog .... there could be a dementia, or some brain injury , or who knows. It is a worry for you. Can you keep children away from him without a big disruption ? make sure the vet does a thorough blood workup ... and I wish you all the best . It is always sad when these things happen ....

What breed ? 10 is hardly old for a lot of dogs ... has his vision been tested /eyes checked?

How To Teach A Puppy Not To Bark Inappropriately?
persephone replied to I love goldens's topic in Puppy Chat
puppies bark ..and run, and nip, and chew, and dig ...it's all part of growing up, and normal puppy behaviour. Unfortunately it is not well accepted by humans , so we need to learn why they do it ..and then help them change their habits .... Make sure she has plenty of play time outside ..and ample things to dig in/chew up , roll around ,climb, out there . :) Pups do not have any idea what NO means ..... and she is only a baby ..still getting used to us weird humans who cannot understand, or speak, DOG. Cat should be provided with a safe room .. where he can go, but pup cant. There is a link here which may help LINK and you also might like to read this ARTICLE :) -
:) Some links here if you click on them ..heaps of info on toilet training and crate use :) LINK LINK LINK

yes,but not uncommon for internal bits to hang out of large puncture wounds/tears .... A small dog being bitten ..people intervening ..large dog becoming more aroused ... there could well have been multiple punctures , made larger by shaking/pulling etc. I know what happens when our dogs get a bunny or feral cat ..no they don't intentionally disembowel ..but it can happen quite easily. I do hope the owner and dog are found ..but doubt this will happen.

Hmmm.. with there being absolutely no way to guarantee this .. is it worth the extra load of worry which Jelly will carry all day, wondering, and hoping??? Jelly has her own welfare to consider now - if she gets ill, what happens then ? It is such a stressful situation ..and Jelly, you have my thoughts and best wishes.

Do I Have A Teenager On My Hands Already?
persephone replied to Stewie_the_Frenchie's topic in Puppy Chat
Your pup is a pup..he will want to play..play NOW ..I need to play .. the other little dog needs her space ..she needs to be able to spend time away from the pup ..and she may need to be slowly introduced if she has been an 'only' dog. It's not fair to expect her to love being used a squeaky toy
