  1. No, I am certainly not of that number ! However, I do like to know exactly what any drugs/supplements are ...and overdosing a pup on a HOMEOPATHIC valerian tincture /or pilules would be nowhere near as worrisome as overdosing a pup using valerian root .Anything which directly affects the nervous system to 'calm/relax' it has the potential for side effects, AFAIK. Have you tried a DA P diffuser? This may work very well - but, as said ... learning to cope is the best medicine .... I have had puppies here , new to ourplace who howled the first night , chewed up beds , etc .... after a few nights though, with toys, a comforting Heated snuggle thingy , and lots of daytime activity , they settled beautifully and were never again anxious when left alone.
  2. So ..are you using the actual valerian root , or a homeopathic pilule/spray ? Obviously there is a big difference , and actual valerian root is not in the same category as Rescue remedy , which is not a homeopathic preparation ...
  3. Ermmm, it's called research . :0 would you buy a car ..an expensive car without checking what the other fees were, without asking about running costs, without talking to folks about the best tyres, oils , etc ??? (maybe you would .....)
  4. Maybe , before having the heart shot thru with cute , ask the 'hairy' questions first ??? THEN look at pics? There was already a pic on their dol listing, hard not to look Aaahhh - :)

  6. poor boy ...alone time , 1:1 time is a really important lesson ... he will probably enjoy car rides ( and they'll tire him out) playing fetch etc ...in very short bursts ..and having meals he has to work at ..like chicken frames , turkey necks , or treat balls .Give him cardboard boxes to jump on/rip up ..... a soccer ball that rolls around .... lots of new challenges :)
  7. :) cute is good. health tests and GOOD results of parents , a good pedigree , parents of great temperament , breeder support for the life of the pup are BETTER :p :D
  8. ..and there' s a lesson here . perhaps - forgive me if you have already done this .... make SURE pups spend alone time before they are rehomed . Weaning /independence should be a gradual lengthening of time away ..my take on it has always been pups are at least used to sleeping a few nights without Mum before they are 8 weeks ..and have been weaned for a little while before that ..and spending alone time ....
  9. Must admit never dosing a pup ...rather keep them REALLY busy ..playing , training , grooming / chewing the BEST EVER bone they've ever had ..and digging food out of a soft drink bottle or kong ...then sleeping ....... By all means use rescue remedy .. on GUMS ..or on skin just behind the ear , instead of opening pup's mouth every 15 mins or so initially .... RR can also go in clean drinking water .
  10. That's my take on it as well ............ I do believe dogs can be sad or happy as well.... and that they can be sad that things have changed/something's missing
  11. It sounds as if it would be VERY stressful for her ... having to toilet in her crate , and a dog who cannot locate water/food bowls without assistance is not in the best condition for added obstacles...... ..also I would not entrust her care to crew ....strange people... risk of anxiety /neglect ....
  12. I have seen it many times :) Not really ..he is more likely responding to your reprimand , and being forced outside ....while not having any idea that what he has done is 'wrong' in human rules . It is completely 'right' for dogs - they guard their resources .. ;)
  13. I just love this one ..Just had time for one shot .... taken/edit with camera awesome app (river & decking are both brownish) ;)
  14. Even shingleback lizards, who mate for life will hang around and 'mope' for a while when a partner is killed , and I really don't think they understand death .... Bitches will still attempt to have dead puppies suckle..will nudge them and mouth them , and place them accordingly for some time , until lack of response , loss of body temperature etc shut down the instincts .....
  15. If I can, I try & find a tree ,etc to block out the brightest light from the sun, and to add interest .... I don't do many.
  16. and don't be scared to eith PM cav breeders/owners on D O L .....or ask for opinions on breeders you find (without making the names public) It might take a while ..but best to do your research ! :)
  17. I noticed this in the Rev;s post ...
  18. Dogs realise when another animal is not what they normally interact with .. ... when it does not respond , etc .... which is why, if one of ours dies , I try & get others to have a look/sniff .. then they 'know' ... as for a knowledge of the dying process ... that when so & so happens , then death happens, and that is scary because then I am no longer alive ............. Dogs are not capable of that thought, IMO. AS for dogs having that 'ESP' function .... yes, I have heard/seen things which are other wise very very hard to explain ........
  19. Gorgeous big boy ... now he is guarding you from afar .... Youll still feel that paw sometimes ......
