What a beautiful tribute to your dear Lou .... No doubt she will be sorting out the young ones over the bridge now :)
  3. My imagination is running amok here URK. Mind, you, they would think they were in heaven :p
  4. The sheep had been moved around by various birds/animals by the time I found it ..., and I know it was not lying in that spot alive for days ......
  5. L Not really ..... I did check to try & find out what happened ...she had a full belly ... was not far from a trough , ...it looks as though she just fell down - she was a very old thing , and sometimes it happens if they are weak and add several kilos of water to the weight they have to support .... ...anyway ... I think dying in her own paddock of old age is preferable to the stress of being taken away from home and trucked away to a meatworks . I am sorry though that we didn't notice any signs ..or she would have received a quick death ...
  6. The sheep was a very old one ...our guess was she overbalanced and just didn't get up again. Our sheep don't get sold .... they are eaten, or just die when they are old..... Obviously if we notice trouble we will euth them ...but this old girl , we didn't see ... Caillie didn't roll in anything ,which surprised me! (and pleased me ;) )
  7. Yes, particularly if it is a disease that can't be tested for, but may have a history in the dog's lines. Hopefully the breeder is open and honest. I can think of one particular disease that I really hope it's not. Is this the boxer that your friend recently adopted Pers? yes ....and she is reluctant to contact the breeder
  8. This afternoon, I noticed some crows up the paddock .... then I saw movement in the area ..and ....spotted Caillie , who is our matriarch ..in her TEENS ..and who had sniffed out this sheep carcass , chased teh crows off, and was having a meal ;)

  17. Is there anyone else you know & trust who could perhaps do a quick 'synchronized obedience' display with you ? two very different dogs ...both obeying the same commands ? An amusing twist might be a retrieve using something unusual ....like a packet of bikkies , or a small basket .....that sort of thing?

  21. Oh! Yes, a dog run may be a solution .... it needs to be floored and roofed and sheltered, obviously ..but may well be a very useful item ! How old is your dog ?
  22. What type of gate is it ? You may need someone to bolt or weld on a permanent piece to block the bottom . An electric thingy would be very tricky on a gate .
