;) 'cept dogs can't read . My vote is for the pony!! Horses can snap .. and he may have wanted her not so close .... They bite each other , so why not their paddock mates ? My meaning was for it to be placed where people could see it and maybe they'd be more careful about containing their dogs. I know , sorry ... ;)

,,and practice, practice, practice in backyard/quiet areas .. until you are both bored and doing it second nature ;) THEN , when the habit is ingrained ..move onto other things . I always remember my old Guide Dog training days .. we would do a mile walk with each dog .. no stopping; straight up a road ..turn around, and back again ..day after day after day ..until the dogs were just 'in the zone' - then we would introduce other actions - like stopping at kerbs , etc ... let me tell you ..after doing that with 8 or so dogs each day ..it was often a bit like a walking meditation ;) BUTthey got accustomed to the fact that a walk was just that ..a walk .. and they had to concentrate on JUST that ..relaxed and easy and settled .... -
here's hoping that bit of grass was the culprit .. now that it's out, there should be no further injury if it was . Good luck at teh specialists .

When Were You Convinced Your Dog Could Understand English?
persephone replied to Leah82's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I had my talking budgie Simon years ago, when my OH asked what we should get for dinner, Simon would say "let's get a pizza", because that was usually my answer. I think animals do understand english, or any other language. There have been many doco's where animals have been raised in 1 country & are sent to another country & don't understand the commands given in the new countries language. I don't think they understand any language, but they understand the sounds by repetition and reward (intentional or otherwise). *nod* -
Thank you. We never did video it .. we used to hold out a hand , and recite "this little piggy".. he would lick the fingers , ignore the one who "got none" and then at the last one "This little piggy went "wee, wee all teh way home "..he would chew that finger .. :) he did this most of his life ... it was his ' party trick' :) hamlet & he were such good mates .. used to clean each other , and curl up together ... Mind you, bernie would curl up with any dog friendly enough . This Winter he was continually not far from a hot water bottle or heated throw , or a brick heated all day , and wrapped well at night in his bed ... he was so picky with food .this past year .... roo mince by the bucket ful ..then it would be a scrambled egg craving, then bacon fat ...oh. no. today I want cream and mashed potato ... oh, and cooked chops , not raw ... A rabbit please- fresh ..oh, and could you chop up the organs for me ..I'll eat them seperately , thanks. Are you having fried rice ? yes please, I'd love some ... and the chicken in soy . ...milk rice & cinnamon ..YUM . ....and so on ....

Thanks folks .... it's very quiet this morning....

Bye, Old man .. you were getting so feeble , had trouble holding on when you needed a toilet , and just couldn't eat enough to hold weight. It was time. For 14 years you have been our gorgeous noisy boy ..the only cat who knew a nursery rhyme , friend to all the dogs , and Mum's old mate when she was so ill.

Once the owner learns some skills they may wish to stop using a halti - at present they appear to find it useful , and are more confident using it . This should be a good thing :) I am not really a head halter fan , but they do have their uses . -
