  1. Doesn't really change them .. just stops any behaviour which was associated with being in season etc ....
  2. Name : "Caillie Ann the blue eyed Koolie " Age : 14 Crimes: stealing dead animals from hawks & crows , removing articles of human clothing from vehicles, dragging them around, then sleeping on them while gumming her treasure collection ; teasing the other dogs; occasionally trying to chase cars . She's a worry :p (pic taken this afternoon)
  3. Think of him as a baby human ..and how tricky it is to get them to understand using a pot rather than a nappy !! Dogs don't think things thru like a human child .. so it needs to be done simply and specifically :)
  4. Dogs who are allowed to toilet inside are confused .. and don't see a need to take themselves OUtside ;) It is an owner's responsiblity to decide which one is to be the toilet spot ..and then spend quite a lot of time/effort in showing the puppy :) is there no way he can be left outside during the day ?
  5. The search is back on - after much soul searching ..and some just -at-the-wrong-time other stuff .. .
  6. jumps fences if left alone in yard apparently - why wasn't that put in her profile, I wonder ? Not a great problem in this case .. dogs are always left inside if no one is home ..but a worry still . If this doesn't work out ... I will tell her about the Koolies :)
  7. No, inner sububs :) Most of my pet dogs would have been classed "no good with chickens or livestock" they have all killed a chook or chased something at some time
  8. Ohhh he is just so handsome!! :) :) :) let us know how things go - he's a lucky boy .
  9. agree with this :) I hope that professional help with carter will make things safer .
  10. OhhOOh ..I might soon be an 'auntie' ... there is apparently a meeting being organised :) LINK
  11. Seems Shadow (paws&Claws) is getting a good consideration ... :) If I was looking I would be sorely tempted .......
  12. She wants to meet a dog in person before taking it into her home ... and , sorry, a 14 Y O one is way too senior ... she lost her old girl at 14 .
  13. having had aspergillus growing on an eardrum .. I can vouch for the pain and discomfort ..and I hope your little guy will be a LOT happier very soon :) :)
  14. how sad is it that when we look , there are just so many amstaff x's & staffy x's ? I had no idea.
  15. apologies if this is a duplicate .. thought I posted it a few days ago ... but can't find it.... maybe it was zapped? A friend lost her old dog last year and has decided to now get another companion. She studies, and does some work from home ...has lots of friends with dogs ,and has lots of contact with young kids . The yard is well fenced /padlocked..and a dog would be indoors a lot . Greyhound temperament seems to suit - however she loves free-running her dog at the beach , or at my place here , etc ... so no grey . I can guarantee much love and an interesting life for any dog who shares this space - yes, quite a bit of time alone , but lots of couch/bed time as well :) Thanks , people. here is her 'list' : female for sure medium to large (although I saw some CUTE teeny pooches today that nearly stole my heart! but then they started yapping....) med to long hair (or poodly type - just not really short hair) NOT barky or yappy around 3 years plus (happy for an older doggy) not too much energy (evening strolls every day or couple of days are ok, ) snuggly (will be an "on the bed" dog :p) NOT staffy looking (something about staffy's and me - just don't gel) more pointed head/nose than snuff-nose confident - not too nervy
  16. From what I've read .. he is a lawyer .... so yes, he is good at picking out articles/studies - it's the juxtaposition of them, and his 'marketing' which makes me cringe .
  17. Poor boy, he sounds as though he has pain .... so hope it's nothing drastic .
  18. One is a boy and one is a girl, so there's no need for the owner to rush off and desex anything. Desexing is not going to instantly cure what could potentially be a bad situation, however given the dogs have met and from the sounds of it all they want to do is play, then it's unlikely to result in aggression. Stafford bitches do not normally fight with male dogs of any breed or cross, once they have been introduced. If she was going to rip him a new one, she would have done it when the first met. My suggestion would be to take them both for long walks together and keep them separate for the first couple of days. Get them walking side by side and comfortable with each other and let the initial excitement wear off. Then bring them home and let them off together supervised in the yard. We have introduced many adult Staffords into the home without incident. seems they are both male ? I agree with the bolded bit ! :)
  19. I advise getting professional help with this - it can go very wrong in a second The one you think is 'top' dog may be weakening , one may be resource guarding ..... it would be advisable to ask someone here for a recommendation ..get an assessment done ,then address the future management . sorry it's all gone bad.
  20. A friend of mine who lost her dog last year is thinking seriously about once again having a dog companion ... she has been to the AWL, GAP adoption day , and is scanning pet Rescue ... here is part of an email... female for sure medium to large (although I saw some CUTE teeny pooches today that nearly stole my heart! but then they started yapping....) med to long hair (or poodly type - just not really short hair) NOT barky or yappy around 3 years plus (happy for an older doggy) not too much energy (evening strolls every day or two are ok, but don't want to have to run with it or walk twice a day etc) snuggly (will be an "on the bed" dog :p) NOT stafford looking (something about stafford and me - just don't gel) more pointed head/nose than snuff-nose confident - not too nervy /anxious MUST be dog friendly ..there are a lot of doggy friends to visit , and who come visiting :) Toddler friendly would be terrific as friends have small kids . She has been looking at Greys recently - loves their nature , but as she comes up here and to beaches etc wants a dog who is able to free run. Last dog was a Belgian Shepherd ..from puppy til into her teens ... No GREAT panic, but sooner rather than later :) person is currently studying, plus does some work from home , and lives alone .
