  1. Much less stress for everyone this way , I agree.
  2. I have done many like this .... and I certainly don't feel I was being inhumane A vaccination often elicits a pain reaction ... what should we do there ? We put a collar on a new puppy and it freezes in fear /confusion .... Is that humane? Front dewclaws do have their place in active/working dogs, for sure . For indoor pets/therapy/assistance dogs though , I would prefer to see them removed .
  3. :) you're braver than I ... two senior bitches ..... poor Perry
  4. Also, instead of soaking food , how about offering her salt free chicken stock drinks , or watered down lactose free milk several times during the day - little & often , rather than gulping a big bowl of slosh at once ? ( sorry to question vet advice .. I just have a horror of bloat from dogs slurping food and having really full bellies )
  5. Cranberry , AFAIK stops bacteria adhering to the bladder wall .. purchase at chemists or healthfood shop :) Not sure of dosage rates- but I use capsules, and just use a pinch of the powder for the cats - a lab - maybe kid's dose?
  6. The 'right' type of bone cleans ALL teeth :) a bone with a meal of meat on ..a bone like a whole turkey neck for small dogs, or roo tail /pig head with lots of meat requires the pulling off of meat /sinews with those front teeth,,nibbling and dragging right down to the bone ..sideways tearing/chewing of the meat right on straight bits of bone ...then finally , after quite a while , the bone can be crunched by the molars ....
  7. poor little girl .The bush is no safe place for little old dogs - I hope instead someone has taken her home with them and she is warm....
  8. Why do you prefer to go to noisy packed venues like fairs/footy matches ? If she has not encountered these situations before, there are many possible things which may startle her, and perhaps then be associated with the noise of kids , etc ... Just my 2c worth . Oh, have you seen these ? :) LINK LINK
  9. At first ? Dog savvy friends/rellies :)
  10. Ok, so they made sure there was a fresh & clean look to things for that video - as anyone would do - it still looks perfectly adequate accommodation to me - and the dogs shown looked ok.
  11. If your dogs use a dog door , then they are apparently used to being inside - would it be an idea to leave them indoors for a couple of hours here& there, esp when you need to go out?
  12. Awwww :) he looks so 'hangdog' :) castration is hardly invasive ...as testicles are usually just in the scrotum ;) With a vasectomy , the only thing is that the dog will be unable to get a bitch pregnant . Yes, the hormones will all be there , along with the behaviours that can be problematic .. marking, seeking out bitches, being perhaps targeted by other males, etc ... These can of course be worked on with understanding and training . have you thought about chemical castration, when the time comes? If you choose surgical castration or chemical castration, it is generally thought best to wait until 12 mths or so, to allow the hormones to help with good strong growth of bones /joints .
  13. I certainly wouldn't suggest an air horn in suburbia without letting all neighbours know what was happening ;) It could work though. Hmmm..as his dogs have a known history of this behaviour , then it does seem that you will have to work hard on your side of the fence if your dog is already hyped enough to tolerate injury in her fence chewing , then she really needs to have access blocked /trained for everyones' safety .
  14. Unfortunately, in a situation like this, 'a start' only serves to educate the dogs as to how they can problem solve The fence needs to be instantly impregnable to have an effect ......high, deep in the ground, and no visibility . IMO , a metre high is not high enough ..if a dog can bounce and get a glimpse of their nemesis, and a paw to lever themselves with - then next time they will try harder ... and also corrugated iron is sharp on the edges ..and can cause severe injuries to paws/mouths unless erected carefully and solidly . What an unpleasant surprise
  15. I am not wanting another dog at present ..........but have seen another tonight who looks just gorgeous large, merle, fuzzy face ...... *do NOT look, do NOT look , Do NOT look ....*
  16. There are some small snakes around ... and legless lizards ..... it may not be a baby venomous snake ..... have a read here , it might be of help ? LINK or you might be able to use this page . LINK legless lizards are cool ... :) I love 'em!! LINK to lots of LL images :)
