Hi. If I was ever considering that job. My first thought would be handling/ walking dogs unfamiliar to me. All sorts and temperaments. Volunteering at a shelter would be my next thought. Yes I have walked dogs straight from pounds etc. and it is a terrific learning experience!! :) recommended. If you have nil or not much actual walking experience with other dogs !! P. S. It's good to have confidence :) I have trained worked with and owned dogs for a half century. I will not comfortably walk any one else' s dogs :/ Keep us posted, and good luck.

I hope it works out although if someone new to dog walking with no experience, but was a vet ,asked me - I'd probably say ' no thanks'. Handling dogs in a clinic does not a competent dog walker make( IMO)

Poor Friskie ... sounds as if she is grieving for her lost owner/home .... I would hazard a guess that being an old dog , with an old owner, days could have been spent just sitting indoors , close ....and that now, being 'forced' to stay out, with a resident dog who doesn't really care for her presence - well , I can understand her crying , and wanting to be indoors ....

No... there are some 'look twice' moments in there ! :D

:) It's a nice feeling - just remember to choose from registered breeders who have healthy, tested, and good temperament dogs ! It would be dreadful to fall in love via a photo - like some do , but they forget to check out the past generations, temperament of parents/other litters ..any health troubles in the family ... and then they may suffer heartbreak

Hi... two important things. make sure the breeder has done all relevant health (available) testing for disease that may be passed down the generations. AND .. make SURE your puppy , from day one is not constantly attached to a person ... start as you mean to go on. If you want to go out, or to shops, or somewhere.. it is fantastic if pup can be left outside (or in ) where it KNOWS how to be happy and confident and has things to keep it occupied :) So many people make a mistake in 'making sure pup doesn't get lonely' , so puppy is not resilient enough to cope when humans are not within sight *end of rant* ;) My advice, from day one ... is to start pup on the everyday routine of 'there is no such thing as a free lunch, or breakfast, or snack!' it is called "Nothing in Life is Free" and it just means that your dog can expect a hundred cuddles a day ..provided something is done to earn each one :D CLICK HERE to read about it .

Weight Loss Advice - Springer Spaniel
persephone replied to quangle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
:) I never go by pack recommendations .. just by what a dog feels/looks like . if they work hard & are dropping weight, they get more . If they seem to be thickening, they get less ....never extreme drops just a bit ... !/2 her original amount seems a good plan for now , plus, if she appears starved... an apple or sweet carrot may make her feel better . I am not a fan of 'bulking up meals'..I would rather a dog's tummy gets used to feeling full after a smaller quantity ... Our dogs adore apples & carrots fed whole . I often play with them first - fetch or whatever .. until they get the taste ..and then they will often sit down and chew away :) -

poor old fella ..... What a way to end an era. -
can you feed roo tails with the meat on them , and some veg oil or some fat of some sort? Feed her several small meals a day of roo/sweet potato , so the quantity is increased .. My Mitchell , who had multiple allergies , and lived a lot of his life on & fresh raw meat/bones with boiled up vege/fruit peel scraps was on prednil ( anti histamine/cortisone ) for most of the 10 yrs I had him . It increased his weight in latter years , but that's about all .

She is imported, and it was done o/s. It is quite normal o/s for it to be done especially for those working as true flock guardians in the mountains etc it would give predators less to grab hold of good plan :) She is lovely -looking :)
