  1. Oh.. someone mentioned squashed coke bottles ...YES kibble, or , for more excitement a few liver treats , then put the whole lot into a natural-fibre sock ..wool or cotton ( can be found at opshops) ;) LOTS more fun !!
  2. the cardboard rolls from gladwrap etc ......cereal cartons ......get sheets of newspaper and wrap pieces of kibble in them ..layers and layers ..stuff a dozen or so 'lollies' into a cereal or other smallish box ... ;)
  3. I presume you have seen the fleas?
  4. "swap" is what I teach from puppyhood .. dog receives something of equal or greater value from me when they drop/give me whatever they have stolen/picked up/dug up ...... BUT they are also left in peace when they are eating their meal . I was taught that at my mother's knee ... you do not disturb a dog eating dinner, or a bitch with pups... and I'm sure it saved us kids some grief ! :)
  5. yes. agree. It is hard work for you both ..especially YOU ..as you need to learn to be firm and loving ..and to ignore all his 'cute' ploys ;) and , a warning about getting him groomed . he may very well react as he did at the vets :( be very careful . if he is such a timid/nervous dog you really do need professional help ASAP , just so he can hopefully learn to accept 'normal' events .
  6. ..or the slippery slide , or monkey bars ;) I am honestly surprised that the dog was taken to a vet for treatment !!! It will be interesting to hear the outcome ....
  7. Ohh..dear old boy ..love his legwarmers :) That photo is just it may be time for a vet assessment ..to see if there is anything available which might help .. however it may be that his old legs are not strong enough anymore to cope with slippery floor and creaky joints. Would he stay in a moveable pen , so he can be on rugs/carpet to give him more of a chance ? It must be so frustrating
  8. he'll be fine with reduced food - his tummy will get used to a lesser quantity very quickly . As you live in an apartment .. perhaps experimenting with things to 'fill him up' may not be a good plan .. in case of upsets . Whole carrots and /or apples once a day are a good chew treat :) The weight loss will be gradual ... :)
  9. Oh So it seems the place from where Rocky came doesn't do a lot of assessing or follow up ? What advice have they given you about the fence smashing ? That makes things even harder. It would be such a heartbreak if something were to happen to him - did you say you were training him as an assistance dog? For cuddles or you ? I really do think the opinion of a solid and trusted professional would be of help. We can only suggest things as we have not seen your boy in action
  10. slightly off topic, but this is not painting a positive picture of whoever AAA are
  11. Oh Dear ... sounds as if the vet visit was very upsetting Just a note here - vets are not experts in dog behaviour/training ... so perhaps take their comments with a grain of salt ,so to speak ..... Your poor boy must have been so scared - he stayed in bed ,probably because the stress of the visit , and , on top of that , your new method of 'being strict' left him feeling exhausted and unhappy. What did the vet say about him diet-wise?
  12. ;) not if you place some pavers or bricks along the fenceline where it is on the grass ;)
  13. Agreed. Pooing anywhere outside is a Very Good Thing ;)
  14. yes- this behaviour as I see it , is a disaster-in-waiting . I hope B can now see it a little differently, through our eyes , and get some professional help ( and , hopefully, a secure roofed dog run to keep him safe )
  15. ..a word of caution . A dog being aggressive/in drive then having a collar grab done could well turn and bite the hand doing the grabbing .
  16. baby puppies need to have company/to explore, to play alone , to move . keeping a puppy in any sized crate for that long is not ideal A playpen ..even an outside one ,under shelter sounds great :)
  17. Glad things are looking up !! :D thanks for the update.
