Why You Shouldn't Shave Your Long Coated Dog
persephone replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
They (if anything like Koolies) don't really have a 'double' coat as I understand it .... we have had very fluffy koolies & border collies here as working dogs ..and they didn't seem to fare much worse than the very short coated ones ... -

Advice Please (please Be Kind)
persephone replied to Lasareina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
An accident - it's happened - now : Firstly - slap your boyfriend hard . then work on getting her speyed , unless she is of terrific pedigree and is registered with your canine council. there are just so many stafford pups /dogs free to good homes etc and , I am being gentle here .. trying to stop you making bigger mistakes in a little while ... I know it's tempting to breed your dogs whom you love ... but ..have a peep here . sometime ..perhaps not now , but at some stage :) ....LINK .. LINK then..slap the boyfriend again That's a good thing ... it means she will be spared this pregnancy :) -
..why does that nose remind me of a sharpei??? *shrug* Heinz 57 I think ..:) possibly from some sort of pigging line ? Ridgie X or GSD X

Why You Shouldn't Shave Your Long Coated Dog

I always clipped our O E S D ... her amazing coat was just not compatible with all the prickles/dust/fleas /mud around here !! As she was always short coated , and indoors a lot , there was problem regarding 'missing' coat and when racing around outside she could do whatever she liked :) -
The usual 'golden rule' is to never vaccinate a sick puppy ... their immune systems are busy fighting off one thing, and then they cop a dose of something else ... however... if you trust this vet , then go ahead .

Bonding And Confidence Building Exercises?
persephone replied to *kirty*'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That sounds fine :) It'll come .. body contact in any form is great! :) have you tried a soft brush , just when he's relaxed.. let him see/sniff it ..then run it smoothly along a side ..or just above his tail ...if he sits for a few seconds..let him sniff it again ....repeat ... if he jumps up .. let the brush drop ,so he can see/sniff it again ...with no hand attached :) -
I found them eventually .... :)

yes! it is a pretty strong odour! :)

Woman's Fingertip Bitten Off By Bull Terrier
persephone replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
No dog/human attack .. just a bite , and a misplaced digit in the way I wonder, in the investigation will dog behaviour professional be offered a chance to explain about the state of mind in fighting/stressed dogs , and of people , frantic to stop a fight? I , and I know others here, who have also been bitten when we tried to stop a fight .... hardly an attack on us . -

Decent compost/mulch helps break things down naturally :) my cat litterboxes just use available soil etc here, and I find if I use leafmouldy stuff as opposed to clean sand, the smell is hardly noticeable . if you are no gardener, but have plants in that area, pls check with a nursery before adding anything. Plants will die quickly if soil pH is wrong, if their tiny surface roots cannot access air/moisture, or if nutrients from the mulch/soil are in the wrong balance ;)
