  1. Clive, A.K.A Petal (yes, he answers to it , and gets called it a lot of the time..he is much more a Petal than a Clive) got a real, shop-bought bed yesterday! From the Reject Shop ..but still ;) thankfully he adores it ...took about 2 seconds for him to get comfy in it
  2. Here he is with his toys on long elastic....much fun!
  3. Just thinking, as contented doggie noises float thru the window, how fortunate we are , able to leave the young man free range for an hour or two with his mum, the ferals and Clive..plus Don, Pudden and Dags nearby on their chains. He is so well mannered and well aware of the size difference, as are the adults, that play is all just so lovely and ordered...we are indeed lucky NO WAY would I suggest ANYONE run a baby puppy around so many adults normally.!He learns so quickly, and is built like a wombat ! He is so funny..he plonks his little bum down when the Boss says his name...and often raises one paw..it looks very cute...like a wise old soul. His escape proof pen was breached..but has been modified ;) I PREFER babies to be safely enclosed when I'm not around !Little smarty.... We have had a very tough time lately, and having this munchkin has been very good medicine .....
  4. Hi What else has changed in her world, apart from turning it upside down with bringing in a new puppy ? Does she still sleep in the same spot? Get the same amount of walks/play/attention? have quiet time away from the nipping, yipping, chasing puppy with JUST you? have her chewing bone time ? have her special spots in the different rooms or outside ...or has the pesky pup stolen them ? Dogs don't usually ask for a new puppy, and it can be a very upsetting experience . IF she adores the pup, she may be protecting it . If she is feeling anxious, left out, and stressed, this will show in her different ('bad') behaviour.
  5. With a pup from a reputable breeder, amongst other things, you are usually paying for research, for testing of the puppy's predecessors, for the fact that you KNOW the parentage/bloodline of your new puppy , and for the experience of the breeders in raising their puppies..in improving the breed, in testing and breeding to minimise/cut out genetic health conditions . and providing support to new puppy owners like yourself. Are the puppies from show stock,. or are they from a working line, doing retrieving, or similar ? Have you been able to google older siblings or other relatives, from that kennel, and see how they've done at shows etc ? Doing research like that is always fun
  6. Very confident puppy prepares to pounce on the head of the BLACK DOG ! IS DON.IS DOTING UNCLE.
  7. With him busting out of his skin, it's the ideal time time for heaps of mental work.....that will tire him, interest and occupy him, without having to exercise him lots. Google trick training......
  8. This little boy has already provided a lifetime of experiences !!
  9. Clive enjoys a bit of scrambled egg off a spoon...and yoghurt
  10. Yes you can teaspoonsful of his food! or pureed mashedcooked pumpkin/apple Dogs eat fine off a teaspoon if you sort of help them :D
  11. wHEN MY DOG NEEDED A MUZZLE , I MEASURED HIM CAREFULLY THEN BOUGHT A soft PLASTIC "BASKET" MUZZLE . it had plenty of room/depth for him to open his jaw wide and pant properly ..he could drink fine, and I could poke treats in the side holes ;) he was not outside unsupervised with it on , ever, but going outside, it was just a part of the process..muzzle on ..outside. Muzzle on/go for walk ... I had it on him straight after surgery so he didn't chew his stitches , so he was comfortable with it when it was really needed
  12. Cruel? For dogs running thru areas of nasty grass seeds , or an area where there are millions of flies/mozzies not, not at all cruel . For thinking of leaving on a dog while it is in a backyard , not ideal . I dare say it can get hooked on things and tear ..... In days gone by , I wish I had known of these..getting grass seeds out of ears was expensive!! ( and no, we had no seed- free spots here, sadly . )
  13. be interesting to see the finished product
  14. I like this shot ...young Ocka has that "far-away" gaze of an Old Master's painted cupid LOL (just needs the little wings)
  15. Welllllll HOW WONDERFUL!!!!!
  16. ocka spent his first night OUTSIDE (in the porch, in a cosy pen, still with Mum) last night ... *sigh* the road to becoming a real dog begins .I'm the one who didn't get to sleep until late - so the HW bottle I put in would stay warm thru the night ;) eating dry food and minced chicken frames like they're going out of fashion ... and LOVING beef rib bones etc (had his first bone @ 4 weeks ) Mum is on a diet as she looks a bit like a coffee table .......& doesn't have a lot of milk...just the way I like it they are more 'companions' now....& she can eat her bone in the pen without him trying to get it after him learning THE lesson at a couple of weeks old when I thought I'd lost him I gave her an edible bone, and she snuck it into her bed ..next thing (I was on the phone) there's yelping and screaming and growling and things falling down ... She had snapped and connected with his snout. he yelled the house down, with good reason. One of 'the ferals' rushed to see what happened, so she got rolled for her trouble, with much noise, and saliva and action! When I checked the baby, I was appalled to see a neat hole right thru the nasal bone, with blood bubbles coming out one nostril and the "blowhole" I had all sorts of visions - none of them good...torn turbinates, perforated palate.... I immediately flushed the hole with saline a couple of times - settled him down, and sent a quick message to St Francis! Something worked - there was NO swelling whatsoever..no bruising, no infection! - *whew* .being so very young proved a big advantage never a dull moment with dogs. This him @ a week old .....
  17. @Scratch sowwy ..he was a singleton . A koolie would go well with yr crew!
  18. dags is also an (accidental) father to this young man , Ocka...almost 6 weeks old . A singleton , a smart pup, and named for a VERY good worker from years gone by .
  19. Anyone remember baby Dags ? Well, Here he is yesterday after his first solo "lift and fetch"...a very happy boy! He was sent from the parked 4WD to find and bring these sheep back to the 4WD from the trees in the middle background. He's a youngster, about 16 mths old ...needs to mature a lot, but did very well, considering he can be such a goofy clown of a thing The Boss was so proud, he actually got a photo of it!! ;)
  20. I missed this earlier What a journey this is proving to be Hopefully he will feel MUCH better over the coming days . having also had a dog go thru this surgery I can empathise ..and yes, muzzled when out on walks, and when not in my sight for quite a long time afterwards as well ! The muzzle just became a part of life .... like ..walk time ..put on yr muzzle ..off we go Sending thoughts to little kane ....
  21. Oh, my condolences that gorgeous boy gone. Run swiftly Arkey......
  22. He will possibly accept her ..but if she is only 8 wks or so old , pls do not leave them alone . As I said - my main concern would be her bonding with him, and taking on HIS behaviours
