Sending hugs, and gentle thoughts. Your girls went together to care for each other .... Take care of you .... -
Alison .. bad manners , indeed - :)

Any animal, be it 2 legged or 4 legged will show a reaction to things experienced for a first time ..or to a shock/fright :) It's normal . I love watching puppies go 'bug eyed' the first time a cat rolls them over .. or they step in a puddle that's too deep , etc ... Often they will squeal as well .. then go silly with excitement once they discover that they have survived ! :) It's a part of living .....experiencing/growing ... I believe this was not an 'attack' .... and it was not YOU 'letting hank down'.... AS to what these dogs were thinking .. it is probable they were just rushing him to see who he was .. and let him know who they were.... his instinct took over ... that's all. They were all just acting as instinct made them .. they are dogs ......

Unfortunately, it does seem as if the poor older dog will find this very stressful :( All I can suggest is to keep the dogs somewhere where they can both be safe and alone when you are not around . remember the older dog was there first , and it should have first priority on where to sleep/cuddles/ restful space to be .

It's a normal part of dog behaviour .... when we have puppies here , they spend a lot of time on their backs while adults check them out /remind them of their manners ... Think of it like a little kid who visits a family of bigger, ratbag kids ... the little one is bound to be bounced a bit .. and put last in the line for games etc ....

Dougal Cat opened the oven door the other day - and Stan immediately popped in to my mind!!! LOL

zakly! :) not all dogs love other dogs ..and often dogs/puppies will get bowled over/growled at or nipped. It's what dogs do. If he has a wound..get it treated ..but you didn't mention blood or limping or anything .... There are bites, and there are nips and there are 'corrections'/show off bites ... The dogs should not have been off-lead - but just by your description , it seems these two were reminding hank he is a new boy, a youngster, and it's THEIR turf. Scary? Yes. Were you more upset than puppy? DEFINITELY! ;) Puppy pee'd . yep .. that 's what puppies do to show they are little & submitting .....often I find that after a puppy rolls over & pees , then the other dog/s will have a proper sniff .. then seem to say .."Oh" "OK Squirt..no hard feelings ..just Don't come here again"

yes!! Most people are a generation or two removed from DOG as hunter/herder/watchdog who was allowed to bite ........ so they have no idea of how it all works . It has been said before .. some of us in a certain age group used to free-range around suburbs ..as did neighbourhood dogs . We all learned each others' language .. a lot of , the hard way .. but it stuck, and there were rules around dogs , which we followed , so as not to be bitten ! We saw dogs playing/fighting/growling/guarding /biting/herding ....dog body language was absorbed by osmosis, almost .

..and if wet finds a powerpoint .....

the only things I can think of are to shut off rooms ..or leave dog outside , with access to laundry/shed or kennel. It can be a dangerous game .... for all sorts of reasons ..eating inappropriate items/playing with things electrical .. items breaking ... dog being injured ....

Eye removal , I have found, instantly removes all that pain & discomfort :) the eyelids are left closed ..and dogs I've known heal up quickly and very happily :) Not sure why you would want to try a prosthetic eye .... ?

That's a terrific offer :) Mickadaman ... if you need help , this is a great chance :) It's a big responsibility caring for an older dog , and it's easy to get overwhelmed , especially if you are apprehensive about vets and their treatment . Thinking of you . -

..and if a dog is so ill .. then it may well just die anyhow I have owned dogs for 50 yrs, worked at a Vets for many years ... and have seen more vomiting/diarrhoea than I want to remember ! There are many many causes - from very serious infections, to blockages, to other ilnesses in other organs , to parasites, to eating/drinking stuff ..and there is NO way anyone can tell , unless they are trained, and can see /touch the dog. You are doing the right thing. Late, yes.. but the right thing . I definatly will take him to vet frist thing tomorrow morning. Good Plan :) Hope it's something simply fixed! keep us posted -

But he has being like that for a week, I left plenty of fresh water for him poor little boy ..being left with a painful and potentially dangerous condition for so long ..it is always best , and often cheapest , to find the CAUSE before treating things from internet advice ... -

Please do not diagnose from the internet ... and yes, definitely a vet appointment tomorrow, unless he gets worse tonight . No food tonight- give his belly a rest ..and get a thorough checkup tomorrow . Do NOT let the vet vaccinate him while he is still unwell - that's a big strain on the immune system. Diarrhea and vomiting have too many causes to make guesses , sorry . Hope all goes well at the vets :) -
YES!! the terms furbaby, et al tend to numb the mind to dogs' abilities in the hunt/kill category. There are instincts/reactions and the tools to back them up contained within waggy tailed companion .. but with the intense moulding of many dogs to fit into the 'little furry accessory' box ...the predatory ability gets further and further away .. and it is just so sad. There are many of you here who have working dogs .. who switch 'on' & 'off' ......you can see clearly that which they are capable of . Somehow Joe/jenny public need reminding of this ...and children need to be kept safe.

poor lady ... I hope she doesn't get any problems . From experience ..calf bites can be very painful

awww :) happy ending!

Thanks , people. It is so different , in good and awful ways No fights thru the (barred) window between Dougie & Mr.W...... no bites to feet /toes if I dare move in bed .....no having to shut off rooms to stop a ginger cat pee party .... But SUCH a big hole ..no fluff monster lying on my belly /chest as I doze in front of the teev... no one leaning on the keyboard and forever putting capslock on ...no one sleeping on my boots ...no one following me around and lying there watching me .... you all know what it's like ...

not good .... see if any of this applies? LINK LINK
