he is a BABY ..and has LOTS to learn before he masters so many of those skills , like not paying attention to things .... His brain is instinctively telling him to LOOK< EXPLORE>SMELL> TASTE>FEEL be patient ... he has little concept yet, and his brain is growing and changing as you look!

Unfortunately, Vitamin S is addictive, and can change a normally well mannered pup into one who will stop at nothing to obtain a 'fix' It is best to provide something which will give the dog a fix .. without being so dangerous . the following, with a similar effect to Vitamin S can be easily administered , and , with complete withdrawl from the Vit.S , can still provide a dose of a comparable reaction. yep . cleaning, anal gland discomfort, an irritation from something .

..sometimes, it backfires, tho. We used to have two inside dogs - Sam, a large GSDXGoldn Ret ..and Mitch, cocker X Both were scroungers. There were beds under the kitchen table .their 'lair' One day I saw Sam very delicately grab a cutting board off the draining board/sink. On the cutting board was a decent sized chunk of meat .He balanced it beautifully ,as it must have been awkward and heavy ... and carried it to his bed under the table ............ Whereupon Mitch said "Ta, mate!" And took the meat off the cutting board- leaving poor Sam holding an empty board ....and wearing a surprised expression! It was priceless :)

Probably need a bigger crate, but we made a fox/cat trap from a mesh dog crate ..on its side , so the door swings DOWN...followed by a wire rod which locked it into place . Door closure was triggered by the animal grabbing at bait hung inside. We haven't had it out for a while, but it worked fine! Free feed a few times, whichever trap you use ... then when animal is comfortable .. set it.

Any animal, be it 2 legged or 4 legged will show a reaction to things experienced for a first time ..or to a shock/fright :) It's normal . I love watching puppies go 'bug eyed' the first time a cat rolls them over .. or they step in a puddle that's too deep , etc ... Often they will squeal as well .. then go silly with excitement once they discover that they have survived ! :) It's a part of living .....experiencing/growing ... I believe this was not an 'attack' .... and it was not YOU 'letting hank down'.... AS to what these dogs were thinking .. it is probable they were just rushing him to see who he was .. and let him know who they were.... his instinct took over ... that's all. They were all just acting as instinct made them .. they are dogs ......

Unfortunately, it does seem as if the poor older dog will find this very stressful :( All I can suggest is to keep the dogs somewhere where they can both be safe and alone when you are not around . remember the older dog was there first , and it should have first priority on where to sleep/cuddles/ restful space to be .

It's a normal part of dog behaviour .... when we have puppies here , they spend a lot of time on their backs while adults check them out /remind them of their manners ... Think of it like a little kid who visits a family of bigger, ratbag kids ... the little one is bound to be bounced a bit .. and put last in the line for games etc ....
