  1. Yes...Hopefully, Dougie will have helped prevent others of his extended family suffering a similar fate
  2. While looking, I found the following. did you get such a number? This is the code of ethics for PET SHOPS : in QLD
  3. I am glad you are consulting a trainer - hope things go well .
  4. A dog can be happy in an apartment . it is what happens OUTSIDE a backyard which determines a lot of a dog's happiness /contentment Dogs NEED at least one , preferably two longish walks a day EVERY DAY ..with leash . They also need some free running and games, and LOTS of sniffing. They need training to occupy their brains...tricks, commands and good manners. they need house manners and yard manners . All this takes extra time ...Dogs just don't automatically 'use' all a yard to occupy themselves. They will need interactive toys, maybe a sandpit, maybe some other play equipment .... it's a bit like having another toddler!! Often a medium dog is better with kids than a small dog .....and there is less risk of injury to the dog if a child accidentally falls or rolls on it etc .
  5. No advice, just an "I'm so sorry you and your poor dear puppy have both been so badly used by this "breeder" . I hope Karma finds her. " Poor Dougie.....Definitely not your fault.
  6. Disappointing ...now to wait ...*sigh* ....
  7. If you are happy to - tell us yr budget and keep in touch .... D O L can be very helpful in all sorts of situations (but no promises)
  8. Well Done. 'YOUR' dog is waiting for you ...it's just not from that man .
  9. ask for scans..not just verbal comments. "should be OK with kids" wouldn't swing it with me .... so you bring a dog home who is unsure of kids ..or just does not like them . What do you do ? I know you are desperate - however, this is a total unknown ..and unlike a rescue/breeder, I BET this guy would not take the dog back if it was unsuitable..or help you with training hints!
  10. Aahh.. sounds feasible - it also means the smaller dog could have some fear aggression or similar around other dogs if it's been bullied badly
  11. @Aja Did you ask why they are selling a dog that is only 2 years old an so cute looking ? LISTEN CAREFULLY to the replies !! have you seen any videos of it walking on lead or anything ?
  12. Run away now.you just do Not have enough info on this dog.
  13. How sad. You were advised months ago to find herding clubs/seek a trainer's advice before the behaviour escalated ....rehoming a problem dog is NOT easy, and , you are correct, she will very possibly end up with a not - so - suitable home . The ONLY suggestion I can make is that you pay for a phone consultation with the BEST person for this type of behaviour ...a phone consult - and perhaps videos of the behaviour will at least give you a professional assessment and guidelines on which to base your plans . You can't afford NOT to do this And the above advice A problem shared, & all that !
  14. I would not imagine there to be any sort of reimbursement etc due from the breeder , UNLESS there was a health guarantee covering this sort of thing. Torn ligaments/sprains/fractures etc happen . They are accidents .
  15. CRATE TRAINING (as opposed to shoving a dog in a cage) is a process of making the proper sized(quite large) crate a HAVEN for a pup/dog In the crate is a comfy bed, the best chew toys ..the yummiest treats, and the ability to be near the humans still , whilst having very distinct boundaries! Crates can also be covered in cool weather, can be a 'den' which dogs have an instinctual love for ....they can be somewhere to put a pup if there are annoying toddlers or other dogs , or if you're having a party, and still want pup to feel part of the evening While I have actually never used a crate for my dogs ..preferring a light chain ..I have used crate training for pet pigs, goats and lambs..all of which took to it really well , and none of which ever saw it as a punishment - it was bedtime/treat time/safety time/chill time . Were I younger,in different circumstances and starting with a pup..I would crate train , no problems . Well Done on asking questions/having a discussion
  16. It is REALLY hard for babies to have to sleep alone ....pups are designed to still be with their families /to stick close to their parent/littermates . Until she is completely housetrained and able to sleep happily thru the night, being near you in a crate makes sense, so you can get up in the night when needed Or are you teaching her to toilet on pads inside?
  17. Oh, Nikki I hope you have also whispered in Scout's ear that things may be happening Keep smiling.
  18. Welcome to DOL Did you get your gorgeous girl from an ANKC registered Breeder ? The official standard does call for pricked ears , and Breeders breed to the standard . Her ears MAY be very late in standing up , or she may just have that type of ears . Where did she come from ? Did you see her parents/family?Did they have pricked ears? Do you have any written proof of her parentage ?
  19. Tricky. No one can just 'take' a dog, even with the very best of intentions Reporting to the RSPCA is really the only thing you can do
  20. So sorry to read your news ....
  21. Oh, Stitch.... I feel it ! With a large breed it can be physically dangerous for you as well . Glad he enjoyed 'thinking inside the box " ;) Hopefully some more brain games will help give him a focus elsewhere....
