I would be more than happy to source a large number of articles for you that will irrefutably prove that research causes cancer in rats... yes .. think that's a definite.
-
not the same effect .. I would imagine ..being a different action ? Is it really scar tissue ? Or a defensive tissue thickening ? NEKH ???????

*sigh* the more we learn, the worse it gets .... like with humans ..everything can increase our chances of cancer .... I guess it is possible , given the positioning of the thyroid... are there any figures of the probability ....?

over many years..our working sheepdogs have been on chains for a lot of their life ..with ordinary leather , etc collars ... and if there was to be damage done to the trachea/muscles,from running around on chains, being tied up at the back of sheepyards when young, and spending an hour or two frequently lunging and barking .... I would imagine dogs having problems with getting tired, heatstroke, funny bark,,, none of which I have ever notuiced, I must admit. many years ago training guide dogs was done using chain correction collars ..and leather collars ... and as far as I know there seemed to be no noticeable damage .... it would be interesting to see any research though :) I can understand "scarring" from the rowels on spurs .. they are an edge ..... and , being used as a fairly constant guide , get tapped against a horse's side a lot .... to me it is a bit like a callous on your foot where a part of your shoe rubs ..or indents on fingers used for certain tasks , day after day ... ?

via email, author unknown: Dear God: Here is a list of Just some of the things I must remember To be a good Dog: 1... I will not eat the cat's food before he eats it or after he throws it up.. 2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, Possums, etc., just because I like the way they smell. 3... The Litter Box is not a lolly jar. 4... The sofa is not a 'face towel'. 5... The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff. 6... I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's Underwear when he's on the toilet. 7... Sticking my nose into someone's Crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'. 8... I don't need to suddenly stand Straight up when I'm under the coffee table. 9... I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before Entering the house - not after. 10.. I will not come in from outside, And immediately drag my bum across the carpet. 11.. I will not sit in the middle of the living Room, and lick my crotch.. 12.. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy', So when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing. P...S. Dear God: When I get to Heaven, May I have my testicles back?

18 Week Old Labrador Aggressive On Lead Sometimes
persephone replied to blacklabs's topic in Puppy Chat
Here it sounds as if she throws a tantrum to get what she wants - and it works ;) -
It is an awful feeling ... There is no way I would leave him 'a few more days' without at least bloodtests and an xray to search for a twist, or a foreign body .... They don't need to be a chewer.. just need, one time, to quickly gulp something like a part of a corncob, or a cork, or a thick leaf, bit of bone or plastic ( most of which will NOT show on normal Xray , but which are easily found with a barium follow thru.) hoping it is just a gastritis ... :)

..maybe another dog sitting disaster-in-the-making? Glad he has water & shade now anyhow :)
-
Sorry- can't help you ....perhaps there is a vet clinic open who you could phone ? Panting can be because of a dog being warm, or excited, or in pain, or feeling anxious .... or other things which only a vet can help you with .... Hope she's ok...

18 Week Old Labrador Aggressive On Lead Sometimes
persephone replied to blacklabs's topic in Puppy Chat
..you seem to have been working hard ..so now is a really good time to get a professional's help . They will be able to see the behaviour and explain what's happening , then work with you to manage it. Don't feel guilty - that doesn't make you feel any better Keep us posted after you've been in touch with someone :) -

Oh Dear It's great you are looking for help with this ;welcome. For now .. do NOT walk her anywhere you could put her in a situation as you have posted, until you get professional advice .If she bites/scares someone it could mean a nasty legal process. Please call an experienced professional for help - a puppy which is showing aggression, and who has bitten needs to be assessed and worked with one-to-one . Was her breeder any help ? Luckily on D O L there are some experienced and professional people. three names I remember in the melb. area are erny, cosmolo, and nekhbet . If you send them a private message - they may be able to help you -
STOP GOOGLING AND SCARING YOURSELF :D if you have ever cut yourself (not scratched) etc ..what happened ? Did it get a bit red? did it seep a bit? did it swell a bit? All these things are usually normal parts of the body's trying to fix up what just happened . Wounds will change every couple of days as the healing progresses - fluid rushes into the cells ... swelling occurs .... the stitches/shaving are sometimes itchy and may go red ....all sorts of interesting things :) keep her occupies with toys/bones/treatballs ... don't let her jump or run really hard for a week .... and don't panic ;)

Life with this dog does not sound ideal 5 years is a long time without a specialist opinion though.... is there anywhere within driving distance which has a Veterinary behaviourist? Or a neurologist? A vet university clinic? A different training style? I agree with this : Until you get a diagnosis either way .. that it is the way he was born, that he has some problem within his brain , or that he has behavioural issues - decision making is hard for you I can understand not wanting another 10 years with the dog you have described. ... Rehoming him would be irresponsible . Rehoming a dog with problems is unfair on the new owner, and the poor dog ! if you cannot find specialist help , and worry that everyones' quality of life is suffering, and have tried everything in your scope, and budget ( and it sounds as if you have worked hard) , then having him gently euthanised while you hold him is the least stressful for the dog.

Would You Give An Adopted Dog Back?
persephone replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
lilypily .. I think that a microchip would have been scanned and the owner contacted ... not then adopted out . -
The dog saved him twice ..... what a horrible position to be in
