  1. She is just beautiful...and you have worked so hard . It all shows . Gosh it seems no time since Elbie was a puppy-in- training !
  2. If there is an infection .. that prescribed antibiotic may not be the right one to kill it . there may well be a foreign body encapsulated behind the eye ... I hope you are firm on Tuesday ..and get some answers. Glas she's not in obvious pain though :)
  3. Both humping and pulling/reacting are bad manners and you should not ignore . There is HEAPS of info/techniques in that EXERCISING REACTIVE DOGS thread I linked to previously ... have a good read :)
  4. Ouch it must be very painful ... No idea .. but if there is a 24 hr clinic , it might be worthwhile to pay them a visit .Hope she's OK again soon .
  5. Same here ... wait as long as you can . he is now a teenager, and , as you have found, he is learning new behaviours! I suggest you do a lot more training with him .. long on lead walks ..even start him on this program.. just so he learns he is NOT the boss ;) I suggest, too , that you read the following thread . managing his behaviour at this age is very important - castrated or not - as it is now he is learning and setting down habits .
  6. No idea about showing .. but perhaps just spend a minute or two several times a day lifting lips/opening mouth ..rubbing gums /treat & repeat ? I do that a lot with any puppies we have here..first when they're being cuddled ... then as time passes..when they are sitting waiting for something ..or anytime really .... I must admit ..never have done it so a stranger can then step in ....
  7. perhaps try him on probiotics (you can use the human ones) . The two things could well be related - some sort of odd way his body works(or doesn't) ...... what happens if he gets more raw soft bone in his diet ? does his poo change then?
  8. I have owned everything from 5 kg to around 40 kg tho I guess around 18 is 'normal' breeds? hairy or not , prick eared or not , squashed face or not ;)
  9. Hopefully dog will be feeling more comfortable soon .. I presume the vet sells Hills? That's usually why they recommend it ;) Love Dora & her mouthful! :)
  10. :) that's very different .. he was still able to be independent and to walk/run comfortably ..as a dog ... with his back parallel to the ground . Good for him!
  11. and that's what she has to learn.. she has never had to think for herself ... or cope with situations . I guess she was penned .. had food once a day .. and that was that .. all this must be hurting her brain When you are doing things - perhaps put her in a crate where she can see what's happening .. but doesn't have to make decisions ? that way, too, Georgia gets some free time ...and you can get about your life . I have no experience .. but would just go slow .. and give her a rest .. She has so much to take in .. best to do it in a way that happens ..not that is 'made to happen' if she is settled in a crate .. then she can watch/absorb for a while ..safe . You can then just open the door in passing - with no effusive greetings ..and let her out .. *shrug* that's what I'd do anyhow :)
  12. I'm no rescuer .. I'd be a bad rescuer I have been involved in euthing many puppies with problems ..and they don't know what they are about to give up ... it is much less stressful/painful than surgery /recuperation . there are more than enough puppies/dogs who DO have a chance at rehabilitation and living long and love filled lives as 'just' a dog - not an exhibit.
  13. dogs are not designed to be bi pedal . That poor little creature "Faith" started this new ...Ohhh how cute, ..OH. we CAN save this puppy ./. surgery and care is available ..it will be different ... let's do it ... idea. A fighting chance ? A chance of what ? getting its legs back? No . What this appears to be is more in the lines of an experiment , sorry . The pup has no chance of recovery .. or living a long and healthy life ... I am all for dogs who have spinal injuries , but who are young & fit , and are established household members , being fitted with wheels ....
  14. Sounds as if Jess's last few months made up for a lot. She would have thrived on the attention and being a mum ... you did a good and responsible thing.
  15. It's bound to happen .. yesterday was a novelty ... today may be "What - you're still here?" make sure Georgia gets lots of YOU time without Bonnie ..and stick to her routine as much as possible - it is her house after all ;) If Bonnie is acting unusually - then, yes, that can be anxiety producing. I suggest, if you can some of that adaptil spray/diffuser etc ..just some nice feelgood pheremones for them both ...
  16. back in the day .. my cats were subbub free rangers during daylight hours .. and used to rub under vehicles/roll in mud , and where toms had pee'd .. and get covered in that oily street grime .We had an area where there were older run down houses, and lots of laneways/communal parking bays .. great for cats .... with lots of stuff to get in to!
  17. Glad things are improving. have you seen the fleas? Are they the very visible/mobile dog fleas .. or tiny black ones clustered on bare skin areas ... the 'stickfast' fleas?
  18. when I had cats in the city .. they were bathed in the laundry sink ..or shower :) Didn't take them long to get used to it - they certainly didn't enjoy it , but they didn't chew me to pieces, either.
  19. Poor baby .... but this is the hermaphrodite pup who may need surgery on genitals later ? Now a possible heart problem..and a weird fracture with necrotised bone ... which MAY have come from an earlier injury .. before you got her ..or may have chipped off ... Are there any other tests which can be done cheapish to check heart/kidneys/bone density .... ? My concern is that this poor girl may have been at the end of the line when good genes were being handed out , and may have not received the ones neccessary for strength & good function...
  20. Apple Cider is good stuff ….. but would sting that already sensitive and sore skin, wouldn't it? Must admit, I like something that will offer immediate soothing. Like, ummmm, Calendula :D agree. Vinegar solution ,and possibly saline solution may well sting /taste awful /make next treatment that much more difficult ;) Calendula, hey? I think I have heard a whisper about that ,somewhere :p
  21. Not really cheap .. but if you don't want to use chemicals and are having a problem accessing vet care , consider using colloidal SILVER . I have seen it do good things with my animals ( cat fight abscess, goat with mastitis, dog with gunky eyes ) use internally and externally ....it is easy to use as it has almost no taste/smell - doesn't sting/foam or adversely affect surrounding skin
