  1. Oh..and start as you mean to go on .... ;) Also ..remember - pup needs to learn to be comfortable alone..not to have her humans with her 24/7 :)
  2. That's lovely! ,and , DD ..nuns mostly do age extremely well , and have lovely serene faces :)
  3. Thank you for updating :) I hope that there is some improvement with time and care ...
  4. plus lots of VERY short periods of MENTAL exercise ...(training) and interactive toys ,plus a sand pit , drives in the car ..where you can ,with pup harnessed safely , wind the window down so pup can see/smell/hear kids playing at a park... that sort of thing :) leash/collar training can be taught in your house/yard (with hardly any walking) , plus little tricks and LOTS of good manners which will make pup's entry into the outside world MUCH more pleasant :) . A tired brain can make for a relaxed and tired puppy .......................................... ;)
  5. ear tags are great for sheep/cattle/goats who have pendulous ears, and rarely try & clean/scratch their ears . I think for dogs & cats the irritation/risk of them getting caught in claws/teeth would be too high to be considered. I would happily get a dog/cat tattooed with details , rather than use an ear tag ;) As for trying to pierce pendulous skin on a neck?? That is a good way to introduce all sorts of nasties into a dog's bloodstream ...plus the skin there is skin/fat..not cartilage like an ear. VERY different .Once again cats/dogs playing/cleaning themselves precludes this , I think. and NOPE , I am not one of who you call "stupid animal rights douchebags." But I like to think of myself as practical
  6. Oh My Lord, FF !! A nightmare :p Ams - yes - Don will be a brilliant worker ,IF he can be channelled/moulded /modified . He has the makings of a "terminator" ! They weren't in trouble ..I just asked to STOP.. ..they were allowed to do it again :) Pups here are allowed to do heaps of stuff..IF they will stop when asked ..and come back to us. All (or ,most,is then forgiven ) Oh - today he went on his first motorbike ride with 'the boss" sitting on teh petrol tank , being held ... apparently he enjoyed it ..and was VERY interested when they went round the sheep .... Ess at this stage has none of the confidence and focus which he has - although as a newborn , she was the outgoing and wriggly one . anyhow - when they are allowed inside, they have a couple of special toys ..one being this toy sheep :p
  7. Aurellia ..thinking of you, and wondering how things are ?
  8. It was a bit - the kangaroos were in larger mobs ..and they could be seen some distance away by the dust clouds generated as they moved at speed. ..... :)
  9. with a muzzle ..it takes a gentle training period :) Show her ..let her sniff ...praise. show her let her sniff...rub it over her face ...praise. Hold a toy/treat in fron of her..with one hand .. slip muzzle over her muzzle for a second- let her get treat/toy ..repeat, repeat, repeat ..until she is comfy with slipping muzzle on & off ..then buckle it up ..poke some treats thru the holes ..take it off ..leave longer next time , etc . OR.... do the first step a few times ...get her revved up about walking or whatever she loves ...strap muzzle on ..and walk!!
  10. Don't know your budget, or aptitude .. and have chosen these two because of very little to spend , for adequate shots ......... Panasonic have a leica lens, which means very good quality ...and they do a brilliant job ...for not a lot of money :) friends have them and swear by them! I notice this one has wi-fi ..so transfer of images straight to your phone can happen easily ! :) have a look .... compacy cameras do a terrific job these days , without the hassle of worrying about lenses & settings ;) CLICK or ....have a look at this one !A Fuji CLICK
  11. you know what I'd do inside? I would get her wearing a nice soft plastic Italian made basket muzzle! Years ago, when Hamlet was young, he had to have surgery to remove sticks etc from his gut. I then decided the only way to stop it until he was well& truly healed- and older ..was to muzzle him! he wore his 'helmet' a lot of the time to stop him picking up anything :) It became a habit - before he went for a walk ...when I couldn't watch him ... The muzzle slipped on, followed by some goodies poked thru the holes:) When the helmet use was gradually reduced ..after about a YEAR ... so was the habit of picking up junk. :)
  12. ;) Those old yards are amazing , yes.
  13. Yesterday, my bro took me for a drive in teh country! :p he does contract goat mustering/culling ..and works quite a distance from home . Although I follow his progress via google earth ..driving the landscape was very different! travelling mostly on bush tracks ..dodging sinkholes/fallen trees ...opening quite a few gates , detouring ... it took us almost 8 hrs to do a round trip of 270 km, dismantle a couple of goat holding yards , and get home . A few shots taken - nowhere near as many as i would like - but he was on a mission ;) here is a taste : mud bubbles in a puddle Some very old sheep yards ... A new fence .............. :) Seems to go on forever . Dismantling one yard which is made of strong panels/gates . the mesh and iron posts are 'wings' ,directing the goat mob into the yard , from where they are loaded onto a trailer and taken to a holding yard awaiting trucking . Rinse & repeat .... :)
  14. Says it all. Thinking of you, who needs the wisdom of Solomon over the next couple of weeks ..;hug:
  15. Oh, and don't forget ..you have 3 weeks left before the pups can be rehomed - Maybe it would pay to be conservative ?... to wait until you know more of how independent she can be ..and what her quality of life is as she grows?plenty of time to note improvements/problems ! Once again - little mite like she is ..with probable multiple problems ..I would be so sad to see someone promising the earth to her based on hearing the "Euth" word mentioned . What does she look like ,when you compare her to the others? is she a similar body/head shape ? stuff like this : is excellent work on her part :) can you experiment with her alone ... lay a trail with tidbits of mince ..only an inch apart..and about 6 pieces long . see if she will follow that , as you call her :) Once again ..with her alone , if you get a rattly toy ..does she listen with interest? let her snifff a soft rattly toy ..place her pads on it... rub it on her ..and gently place a bit of it in her mouth . What does she do? Would she have a pretty feeble tug at it , or follow it around with her ears/head?? Lick at it if you touch her gently on the mouth/nose with it? :D
  16. I wish you the best of luck with their checkups .... ..
  17. ... is it worth contacting a vet behaviourist or someone who can test reflexes/abilities etc so you know for your peace of mind ? It would be lovely if a professional could do tests and say - yep everything appears working fine , apart from her eyes .. it just seems that a new home may have the same worries & uncertainties you do for some time to come , until she displays that she is learning to 'live' and enjoy .... or not. I hope I am not coming across as being unkind ...my heart aches for this morsel of fur ... dear little thing...
  18. May I just suggest some further assessment ? ... a blind puppy who can find food and eat, who is exploring the environment with other senses ..who plays and learns , is one thing ... but someone who takes on this girl only so she isn't "put to sleep' ... perhaps it would be better if the know exactly what is happening ..and how much care will be needed ....
  19. I was expecting something very beautiful, yes! Disappointed, I was .. :p
  20. She was tattooed under GA for neccessary surgery --- it doesn't interfere with her functioning.... can't see how it's 'cruel' . Ear cropping/dewclaw removal, carting dogs around in backpacks ..?? ASPCA is fine with ..but a bit of ink ? No, no need for it - and I hope that other folks don't try & do similar without the GA . but
  21. SLF it must be heartbreaking ..such an up & down journey for you ... the only consolation I have is that this poor mite, given her limited functioning doesn't really know what she's missing ..she just feels what she feels . Does she ever wag her tail ..or try & run to you when she hears/smells you? I guess my concern is that "the lights are on, but nobody's home" and that she may need a HUGE amount of work to get her to where she can have independence ..or ,it may never happen, due to the damage she sustained. (yes, I am a glass half empty person, sorry) be very kind to yourself - these babies , and their mum's recovery as a whole, are miracles, enabled by you :)
