mine has a breaking strain of 50 kilos, it is not a $2 shop one. A breaking strain of 50kg doesn't mean the lead is suitable for dog weights up to 50kg though. The force a dog can exert (in kilograms) can be far greater than its weight so a leash with a breaking strain of 50kg is still really only suitable for smaller dogs. Don't know the breaking strain of mine..but it has served me well for over 20 years , walking everything from hefty labs , to zooming kelpies, to PIGS , to recalcitrant kids (both goat and human) No injuries of breakages yet :) it was an original Flexi-leash. They are indeed very useful tools when used correctly and appropriately !! \\Walking an out of control dog on ANYTHING will cause some problems ... no matter what the tool used is ..

take photos/video .. and the Xrays ...and head off somewhere where a specialist can have a look , maybe??? poor boy

is the vet who Xrayed experienced in doing Xrays specifically for HD ? is it a real HD..or could a hip have been dislocated when he was positioned incorrectly on the operating table? Did he slip or anything as he was coming around from the anaesthetic, maybe?

:) when you are playing relax and watch her. What does she do as her own fun? Does she silent bark, dig, roll, hold things with her paws? Does she enjoy crawling, jumping,poking things with her nose or sniffing along in line? Must admit admittedly I am not at all into obedience training but I spend a lot of time watching pups to learn what they enjoy/ are best at. Then we spend time understanding each other with a compromise on these things :) my Hamlet was one for carrying things- he ended up as an adult picking up stuff I dropped , carrying notes & things between family members in different rooms. Just one example of my lazy training :) Your puppy has lots of world to explore and play in. Watch her, enjoy her enjoying herself, and let her show you what she's an aptitude for :)

;) I used to use them when training both guide and therapy dogs . perhaps your comment could be put this way 'round? "I wonder why it is that those with badly behaved dogs who aggress at any other dog they see use extending leads?" perhaps it is that they have not been taught to effectively understand and manage their dogs , and feel that by using an extanda-lead they are being kind ,giving their dog "freedom" ? Or perhaps they feel that this way they avoid having to really work at management/control of their dog? It can be so dangerous, especially if the leads used are ones from the $2 shops !

:) You don't 'have' to do heaps of formal training . Think of what you would like her to do at home . pick up toys?carry things for you? find lost things? Think of 'tricks' which can be cute or useful ....like offering you her feet when asked ...lying still on one side......putting her head in her collar when asked.... turning around to present backside/or left & right sides when grooming .......there are so many little things which make life easier, and which can be done gently and as part of everyday ;)

Think it's to do with what one pays for what one gets ....

Shame you're so far away ..maybe we could have a Arachnophobe's Attitude and Awareness "retreat" here ..with photography stress release opportunities ;)

how exciting :) Sometimes, stress of leaving home, settling with a new family- different water ..AND a different diet can mean upset stomachs, trouble with housetraining, and weight loss in a baby puppy ...so, initially the BEST food for the first f weeks is what she has been eating at the breeders . . If you really need/want to change , then you can do it gradually - so there is no need to rush out now and purchase food other than what the breeder suggests . Once you have her home- then you are the best judge of how she is growing on that food ..and if she is healthy and happy :) there are HEAPS of threads on here about food. Hmmm, OK. Then I can still rehouse them. Should have known better than to trust my brother. He said they do not bite. ETA: In New Zealnd we had their version of the cockroach called weta. They crawl over sleeping people ;) all I know of weta is what I read in Footrot Flats books :p

Good news :) the mucous is produced when something irritates the gut lining ... so ,hopefully whatever it was has now passed thru completely :)

I couldn't imagine anyone getting a dog out for 'exercise'. There are a hundred things which may go wrong! ? Stressed dog /strange surrounds/harried staff/other dogs ......eek!

I tend to agree with Sandra- vet first ..get a parvo test , hopefully it is just an upset tummy from something else.....

WOW!!! Now that is one helluva generalisation, persephone. You obviously weren't exposed to the nuns I was when I was growing up . Embittered, vicious, nasty old crows.
