When we had chooks ..the dogs would help themselves - often eating up to a dozen ,if they found a nest!! putting eggs in the bin........................ couldn't you at least leave them out for the crows/maggies??? ;) You can also cook them..scramble or hardboil ..chop em up, and feed them back to the chookies !! they love 'em and they are good food , esp if mixed in with some greens or soaked bread. :)

:) agree with this . Dogs are bred for certain traits/behaviours ...that is what makes them a 'breed' apart. There are deviations , and there are the excessives .. training will help any owner understand their particular dog , and how to channel/manage/modify some behaviours ...

Yes- and jumping all over people ..bouncing... licking..knocking over old ladies on walkers, stealing kids' icecreams ..are all behaviours which an owner needs to manage /correct, definitely

i am unsure of what you mean by "unfriendly breeds" ?

she may want to ..but her muscles have no idea HOW :) She hasn't used her jaws/tongue much . puppies exercise their tongue/jaw/throat/neck and shoulder muscles during suckling - think about it :) they work pretty hard , and strengthen a lot of their body muscles ..including the back & hind legs ,as they push !! She has not done this ..and so has no "muscle memory" or pathways in her brain to help her .... IMO. Lapping is not an easy task, really ...... have you tried putting a TINY dob of nutrigel or something on her lips/nose ? that may help get her tongue working :) I would also put in some meaty lamb ribs/or a large beef vertebra .. she may well start to gum/suck/lick that when she has nothing else to do ( I would also be nasty and do this for an hour before the next meal..so she has hunger to help)

The only time I have seen brain tumours in dogs ..their temperament changed fairly quickly , they became aggressive ..and one bit a human, completely out of the blue ! these were labs ... youngish , and well socialised etc . it was confirmed they had tumours .Both were euthanased .

condolences, denali . as for the little dog .. yes :) keep him busy ....let him sleep on something familiar- her pillow/slippers/blanket or doona , maybe ......and leave it there for quite a long time . Just give him new things to see/taste and experience ..and leave 'his' bed etc secure and not too clean at present .... When Mum had to go to hospital and died..her old dog slipped further in to being "old" ..and would not be calm or happy sleeping where she normally did, in Mum's room . She just would not settle indoors at all .. would go crazy! And ever since then has slept very happily on a tether in the back porch.... Apart from that , and occasionally going to Mum's bedroom door for a few weeks ...she still hooned around as normal .

Oh..and IF you choose a breed, and want a puppy from a breeder who does all teh health testing of parents, breeds responsibly and all that ..you may have to wait months for a pup which will be the best you can get for your situation...

:) been there and done that ..the best and closest relationships I had with dogs were the 2 I got when they were adult , for some reason.

ours love it ..BUT the fat content ( we just feed carcasses chopped up..and offal) makes for very stinky burps & farts . It is a good meat :)

..don't forget, under every dog's paw is a teddy bear ;) 'scuse the artwork :p
