  1. I concur . This very sensible advice, which will immediately reduce stress/potential for something nasty happening. :)
  2. awww..... that's all Winter Coat, I bet!! ;)
  3. poor lady .... What a horrible horrible thing ....that is a big ask of a body which has lived for so long ..to recover a good lifestyle after such injuries ...
  4. Awww... How much actual time in her day doe she look engaged and happy :) How much time is she a bit lost/sore...? It is so hard .I'm sorry ... With mine - trouble eating , loss of comfortable toilet habits , and any long term discomfort makes my decision easy . Yes, I could keep them going , and keep wondering/stressing ...but ... Dear old girl ..I hope you see the time to be strong for her ,and let her leave her pain behind so she can travel light across the bridge .... read this again ..
  5. sad for you, but puppy is now free of discomfort and struggling.
  6. There is a video on YouTube of a dog attacking his own leg everyone thinks it funny
  7. just re-iterating ... wish I was eloquent ;)
  8. logan :) glad you had a lab for so long . Did you live in the same house?Or did the lab have a backyard /family members ? having a dog mostly confined indoors is a very different kettle of fish ;) I agree with this ! Hungarian Visla Victoria on facebook. maybe start here :)
  9. No - however we can perhaps try and make the journey easier for those who are learning?
  10. Tonsilitis can be nasty - and if the wrong AB's are used, then yes, different ones should work :) perhaps you could start another thread here asking for foods etc to boost the immune system ? :)
  11. Taking aside the dog-inexperience: what's wrong with taking a mature dog home from the pound?! Your comment about bringing home potential 'problems/illnesses' makes it sound like you should avoid pounds all together! Plenty of amazing, wonderful (and healthy!) mature dogs that need homes in pounds, so with advice and a steep learning curve there's nothing wrong with it! For an experienced person , nothing :) For an inexperienced person ..lots can go wrong - we have had them here on D O L ..meet & greet a lovely dog ..then said dog jumps a fence- digs out - gets very stressed ... a minority, probably - however folks who lack the know how can often find it hard going ....especially an impulse buy
  12. yeah- sorry - guess I'm too used to our dogs who dig dens/sleeping holes in the sand ..so there is always a rounded softish, flexible surface wherever they touch ..one which they can form to their shape , and which they often prefer to a sturdy wooden kennel with bedding ..... ;)
  13. Gus - YOU get the elephant stamp ! Well done . I am glad now they are making more sensible plans :)
  14. neither of these seem to fit , IMO
  15. please do NOT just go to a pound and get a "mature dog" . Lord knows what problems/illnesses etc you will be bringing home. You don't sound very experienced - what dogs have you had before?
  16. whoa! :) and welcome. if you are an experienced dog owner - this might work :) if you haven't had a lot of experience - it could be not an ideal situation . I guess you know puppies need a lot of training/mental stimulation . They also need several meals a day , and toilet training . They are also not born knowing how to behave around furniture/ electrical cords and sox! :) puppies/young dogs can NOT be run at all , because their joints/bones are soft and still growing , so impact can cause much damage Ask questions, by all means - it's good to see you are still researching! This may interest you ? here CLICK( possible Vizsla in apartment) have you looked HERE? there is much discussion about the Vizsla
