  2. his mum is koolie . due to an accident - father is thought to be a kelpie with some lab from one grandparent .....
  3. That was positively regulated ,compared to racing around with the others! :)
  4. Good luck!! He looks like he really loves his "sandpit" though... T. That's the idiocy dose for the day ;) Nice & soft to run on - and at his own pace ....
  5. ..playing in the 'sandpit' this morning .... short video
  6. CANINE CORNER an excerpt from one article " How Well Can Children Interpret a Dog's Emotional State? .... One of the reasons why the adults seem to do better overall appears to be that they are paying attention to more features of the dog's behavior, while the young kids focus on one or maybe two aspects of what the dog is doing or sounding like, and nothing more. The fact that the four and six-year-old children do most poorly at recognizing fearful emotional states in dogs may help to explain why the dog bite rate is so high in their age groups. A fearful dog may become aggressive and bite if it feels threatened. That fear motivated bite will be initiated without any growl or bark. Since the kids are dependent upon the sounds the dog might make to accurately identify aggressive behavior, that fear motivated bite will occur unexpectedly and from the child's point of view without any warning.
  7. :) well, if she keeps on travelling by impact - there is the possibilty of the healing sites being jiggled !! Glad she is enjoying her walks again! A thought - have you tried using 'signs' for her to follow paths not involving walls? use (real) vanilla , or lavender/ peppermint oils .. just a tiny amount and train her so that this smell shows the way to her food /treats . put drops along safe paths, maybe ..so she has something to follow? You can also help by using a carpet runner or similar - so she has teh cue of different underfoot texture to find her way around . (apologies if you have done this )
  8. Glad she's feeling well :) yes- give the clinic a ring and ask ... it may be just still healing - but best to check if you;re concerned .
  9. No one is arguing , Shazaam - lots of us have had the surgery done on our dogs . Your post tells us nothing factual on which to even guesstimate a cost . Vet costs can depend on all sorts of things dog SIZE Vet or specialist Vet clinic or hospital extra test needed the level of damage to the knees what exact procedure is to be done ..(yes, there is more than one way to repair this condition) etc etc ..... $ 12,000 is a LOT of money - and to help your friend - more info would be most useful. That's all .... no argument - just the way this forum operates ..we try & give answers /help based on as many facts as we can...
  10. There may well be MUCH cheaper vets - but the surgery may also be much less professionally done .... I also suggest the owner take the dog for a second opinion ...
  11. oh Snook I am SO sorry you and the gorgeous mr Joostice had such a horrible horrible encounter . (insert expletives) . you both have to work so hard , every day . take a half step back - breathe ..and maybe you & the gorgeous boy have a doona day or two ..lots of rest & treats & nice thoughts . Easier said than done , believe me ... however I wish you calm .....
  12. Thanks, corvus . yes, it is a shame it was such a squashed version .... and fairly lacking in detail - but the word is out there!! Congrats :)
  13. Yes- they didn't do it justice ..needed much more time .
  14. T - something like that ...and more getting-my-dinner-out-of-bottles, cleaning-out-of-peanut butter jars , and chewing-of-apples&sweet potatoes ;)
  15. That's true n'all :) Indeed :)
  16. can't really see it - but dogs do get follicular /glandular cysts and things which often resolve all by themselves :)
  17. Unfortunately - it seems he has done some not -too-serious damage to a radial nerve - and is on some mixes from McDowells & some physio from me under direction from Mcdowells .. and is not to be a loon for a while - well not excessively , anyway ;) What it means is more "calm" training ....and play-with- owner-training - and much less -run-with-the-pack idiocy ......he doesn't mind ;)
  18. Must admit to being a tad underwhelmed perhaps I don't understand .....
  19. :D but, you know - it was NOT the throwing of toys that delayed you - it was taking PHOTOS !! LOL lovely . thanks :)
  20. excellent post , staff& toller , even tho originally I did think a tie-up time out was odd - but if one has no crate etc - and dog is not normally tied up - then yes , a few minutes lack of freedom fits the bill . as per the Super nanny's "naughty step" though - this MUST be delivered correctly ;) ;)
  21. ..and , as dogs are DOGS, and not humans - there is NO need to 'help' Lace feel better when she gets home - don't go guilt buying--- or fuss over her 10 times more than usual , OK ? She will NOT worry about what has been - or what you may or may not have done. Just be practical, and sensible, and loving - keep to as normal a routine as you can - and that will help her just slot back into your home . Do you have everything needed at home for her convalescence ? like ramps etc ready if she is not allowed to jump/go up& down steps? A nice big and comfy crate where she can rest safely .. puzzle toys/treats - and a list of things she can learn while healing ? :)
