  1. I agree with this . Bedtime = Crate . BUT it will never be the same .That presence is missing ...that smell, that company ....
  2. Oh gosh please do not use an aversive collar on a stressed dog - it will just exacerbate whatever grief/loneliness/stress she is feeling I also suggest moving her crate near you if you can . ... or leave a coat on her - and let her sleep in the lounge ? You might also find Dog Appeasing PheromoneVERY useful at this time . for you all at this time . Product Description Adaptil Dog Appeasing Pheromone (DAP) replicates the natural calming pheromone released by the lactating mother dog which acts to reduce stress in sulking puppies. This natural hormone has been found to have a similar beneficial effect on adult dogs. Adaptil DAP has a practical application in helping dogs of all ages overcome the stress associated with separation anxiety, loud noise phobias, and in adjusting to a new place or situation. DAP is a natural, safe and effective part of a behaviour modification plan.
  3. you may want to check that - I always thought parvo stays active!! you are correct in reference to parvo; when we had the discussion her comments about 'wet materials' were in general and not specific to parvo - we'd already discussed parvo and how long it can be active in the soil. Ok :)

  5. walking hunched can also point to tummy discomfort ...
  6. that does not sound right .. perhaps think of a blockage - or a sphincter problem ? Food gets to stomach .. rolls around - and cannot go further? poor sarah .... Hope the vet has some ideas . gastritis is another thing - but a few thoughts may be more useful .

  8. I think you would be better off getting a trainer in to help , if it is going to be a big deal - What you are proposing sounds awfully complicated to me , sorry . Some experienced person who can see Wilbur's behaviour could help you more..
  9. whoa!! Some amazing shots here - the flight ones are amazing :) ,and the head shots are incredibly clear, T . I love wetland shots - they always look 'right' dont they ? I took this a couple of days ago ... not a perfect shot ..BUT I was amazed at the formation :D (taken from a moving tinny , handheld , tamron 70-300mm) Australian Shelduck (top) and Black Duck pairs
  10. if a lead is mainly used to take her out to toilet - well, yes , she will not enjoy it ;) put her on lead when she's fed..when you are sitting with her ....so being on lead is something normal, and has nice things associated with it :)
  11. hi,, Lauren - how did things go ? Hope you're OK . We would love to hear from you .
  12. Where did this dog come from ? is he desexed? While you are waiting - do NOT let him off leash . outside of your yard,EVER. Practice recall in the backyard - a few minutes whenever you can - use his very favourite food to praise him when he comes . Only praise/talk to him /treat him when he is with you..looking at you, and doing something you like :) Don't feed him out of a bowl - feed him his meal during the times you are with him - when he sits, when he looks at you , when he comes ..he gets food . Practice your walking in the backyard ... Forget about being DOMINANT - what is needed first is that the two of you COMMUNICATE .... it is that communication which makes each of you understand what the next move will be - and what each other is doing . he has to learn your ways - and you need to learn what he sees- what he enjoys - what he gets excited about - YOU need to be the BEST thing - so the dog wants to be around you , to listen to you ....
  13. hard to tell - it could be a blockage somewhere... or trouble swallowing properly when she's asleep ... I have no idea , but I hope you have a successful vet visit and get it sorted :)
  14. awwww - well, we know now where she sees her place :) ..and you have also taught her that obstacles CAN be moved !!
  15. I can't help - but remember that a trainer teaches YOU to train your dog ;) Hope you find someone reputable close by .
  16. look here - you can use a word instead of using a clicker - use "yes" - or good or something short & happy .
